Bath re-enamelling in Cholsey

Bath re-enamelling in Cholsey without replacing anything

We resurface cast iron, steel and acrylic baths, including roll-tops and period baths. The finish is sprayed on in several coats over a bonding primer, after the bath has been cleaned, repaired and keyed. We’re frequently asked to fix brown or grey marks that don’t clean off and a bath in a colour that no longer suits, in acrylic baths, basins & shower trays and Victorian roll-tops.

The work is guaranteed for twelve months. If something is not right in that time, we come back and put it right.

Should I try a DIY kit first?

If you’re set on a kit, follow its instructions closely, and give it the full curing time. If it doesn’t work out, we can still repair it properly.

For a hairline mark somewhere you’ll never see, a kit may be enough. For anything you look at every day, anything that has rusted, cracked or holed, or anything on a coloured surface, a professional repair is worth it.

What we do, step by step

It’s a tidy, low-fuss visit. We confirm the time with you beforehand, cover and mask the work area, then carry out the work, which usually takes the best part of a day. If we find something your pictures didn’t show, we will explain it before carrying on.

  1. The room is masked, protected and ventilated.
  2. The bath is cleaned, degreased and any chips or rust repaired.
  3. We key the surface and put on a bonding primer.
  4. Several coats of new finish are sprayed on.
  5. The bath is left to cure and can usually be used the following day.

How to prepare

Common problems we fix in Cholsey

Older baths often have several problems at once: worn patches, chips, rust spots and stains. Resurfacing sorts them out together.

These are the problems we are asked about most:

  • Lots of chips and rust spots
  • Brown or grey marks that don’t clean off
  • A peeling or bubbling previous coating
  • A roll-top that is seen better days

Before booking anyone

Work for landlords and builders

Housing associations and facilities teams use us for planned and reactive repairs. A repair avoids taking out and refitting, which is easier on the people living there.

Landlords, letting agents and housing providers in Cholsey use us as well as householders. A repair between tenants keeps the property empty for less time, and it costs much less than replacing.

When we would advise against a repair

We’ll always be straight with you, so here’s what a repair will not do:

  • A bath that’s rusted through
  • Anything hidden under an old coating, until we remove it
  • Plumbing leaks, which need a plumber

If in doubt, send photos and we will say what we think before booking.

Materials we repair

  • Acrylic baths
  • Cast iron baths
  • Pressed steel baths
  • Victorian roll-tops
  • Basins & shower trays

Different materials, different repairs

Cast iron

A cast iron bath is heavy enough that most people never want to move it. Only the enamel surface wears or chips, and that’s the part we put right.

Acrylic

Acrylic baths can be resurfaced too, using a system that bonds to acrylic. It must be solid and not flex underfoot for the finish to last.

Repairing versus replacing in Cholsey

Replacement only makes sense in a few cases: a cracked-through bath, a change of size or shape, or a full refit. Otherwise, resurfacing generally wins. Resurfacing from £350, with every job priced individually. It helps to know what pushes a price up or down: the amount of damage, the material, access to the area, and how many jobs we do in one trip. Photos let us give you a fixed figure.

Looking after it afterwards

Good habits make a big difference to how long a repair lasts. Here’s what we suggest:

  • Dry the bath after use to stop limescale
  • Do not use the bath until it has fully cured
  • Don’t let dyes or oils sit on the finish
  • Store bottles off the bath

Treat the new finish gently at first: let it cure fully, then use mild cleaners only. After that, no abrasives and no suction mats.

On a worn bath, rust spots keep spreading and make the job bigger. It’s simpler to resurface before they spread.

Cholsey questions

I’m a tenant. Can you help?

Yes, though it’s best to check with your landlord first. Landlords are frequently glad to have it sorted before the end of a tenancy.

Can you quote from photos?

Nearly always. We only ask to see it in person if the photos can’t show what we need.

Can pets and children be at home?

Yes, as long as they stay out of the room we’re working in. We’ll let you know when it’s safe to use again.

How do I book?

Photos of the damage, a picture of the entire bath and your postcode. After that, we just agree a date.

Are there extra charges for Cholsey?

There’s no separate call-out charge. The fixed quote covers the visit and the work.

Is there a guarantee?

Yes: twelve months. If there’s a problem with the work in that time, we come back and put it right.

Can you do the outside of a roll-top?

Yes, roll-tops are a big part of our work. The inside is resurfaced, and we can refinish the outside as well.

How soon can you come?

Your quote comes with available dates. If it’s urgent, say so and we’ll do what we can.
