Why repair rather than replace?
Replacing a cast iron bath is a big job: they’re heavy, frequently need breaking up, and a new one isn’t cheap. Resurfacing in place avoids that entirely. It helps to know what pushes a price up or down: the amount of damage, the material, access to the area, and how many jobs we do in one trip. Send pictures and you will get a fixed figure.

How the visit works
On the day, the technician arrives at the agreed time, protects the room with dust sheets and masking and gets started. Expect it to take most of the day. We clean up when we’re done and tell you when it’s ready to use.
- We mask and protect the room and ventilate it.
- The bath is cleaned, degreased and any chips or rust repaired.
- We prepare the surface and apply a bonding primer.
- Several coats of new finish are sprayed on.
- Once cured, normally by the following day, the bath is ready.
Before we arrive
- Mention if the room is upstairs or in a flat
- Keep a parking space free if you can
- Keep pets and children out of the room while we work
Ask for a price
For most jobs, photos are all we need to give you a price. Tell us what happened and where you are, and we will reply with a fixed quote and the earliest dates we have.

Prices and what affects them
Prices start from £350. Every quote is fixed and free. What we look at:
- How many items we do on one visit
- How much damage there is
- The colour and finish to match
- Whether it’s a chip, crack, burn or wear
The price depends on how much damage there is and what kind, what it’s made of and how many items we do on one visit. You get a fixed quote from your pictures, so there are no surprises on the day.
Getting a price from photos
You can typically get a fixed quote without us visiting. To make it quick:
- A wider photo showing the entire bath
- Details of any past repairs
- The postcode, so we can plan the visit
- A coin beside the damage so we can judge size
Pricing is simple: snap the damage close up and then the entire item, send them over with your postcode, and we will reply with a fixed price. There’s no charge for the quote and no obligation.
DIY repairs versus a professional job
A kit can be fine for a tiny mark out of sight. For damage in plain view, cracks, holes or rust, or coloured finishes, it’s worth having it done properly.
Kits are cheap and easy to find, but many of the jobs we do start with putting right a DIY repair. Getting it right first time is normally cheaper.
Materials and what they mean for the repair
Acrylic
Acrylic baths can be resurfaced too, using a system that bonds to acrylic. The bath needs to be firm and well supported for the finish to last.
Pressed steel
Pressed steel baths take a new finish well, once any rust has been treated. Rust around the waste is common on steel, so we check it carefully.

Looking after it afterwards
A little care keeps the finish looking good. We recommend:
- Have chips seen to early
- A dripping tap should be fixed promptly
- A quick wipe after use keeps limescale away
- Avoid suction-cup mats
Stick to mild, non-abrasive cleaners, do not use suction bath mats, and keep bottles and razors off the surface.
Leave a peeling coating alone. Moisture gets underneath and makes it worse, so it’s better to have it stripped and redone.
What a repair cannot fix
A repair isn’t always the answer, and we’d rather say so up front. Repairs will not solve:
- Problems we can’t see until an old finish comes off
- A bath split right through the body
- Leaking taps or wastes (a plumber’s job)
Not sure? Send photos and we will give you a straight answer.
