Need bath repair in Common Side?

How we handle bath repair in Common Side

We repair just the damaged spot and colour-match it to the bath, which is far cheaper than replacing a fitted bath and the tiles around it. You can usually use the bath the following day. If you’re dealing with chips along the edge of the bath and damage beneath the taps, we can generally put it right, whatever the material.

All of our repairs are guaranteed for twelve months in Common Side and everywhere else. If something goes wrong with the work, we come back.

Work for landlords and builders

We also carry out snagging repairs for builders and developers, fixing chips and scratches before handover so nothing needs replacing. We hold CHAS, Constructionline and SafeContractor accreditations.

Builders use us to fix snagging damage before handover, so there’s no need to replace a damaged item at the last minute. We can visit several plots in one trip.

Repair or replace: which is better?

When the bath is otherwise sound, repairing beats replacing. It’s quicker, cheaper and far less disruptive, and the bathroom stays as it is. Where the entire surface is tired, we may suggest re-enamelling instead. Prices start from £95. The price depends on the type and amount of damage, what it’s made of and how many items we do on one visit. We give a fixed quote from your pictures, so you know the cost before you book.

Why us?

  • Fixed prices from your photos
  • We will tell you if it’s not worth repairing
  • One visit for most repairs
  • No extra charge for your area

Aftercare tips

Most damage we see is avoidable. A few tips:

  • Have new chips seen to early
  • Clean with warm water and a mild detergent
  • Get a dripping tap fixed promptly
  • Cover the bath during DIY or decorating

Use gentle, non-abrasive cleaners and try not to drop heavy bottles on the repair. Deal with new chips early, before rust can start.

If water is getting through a crack, stop using the bath until it’s repaired. Leaks under a bath can damage floors and ceilings.

Prices and what affects them

Repairs from £95. There is no charge for travel to Common Side. The price comes down to:

  • How easy the damage is to reach
  • The material
  • The type of damage
  • How hard the colour is to match

Our prices are the same across the UK, so there is no premium for Common Side. What changes the price is the job itself: how much damage, what it’s made of and how many items.

Getting a price from pictures

Good pictures mean an accurate price. Here’s what we find most useful:

  • Where you are, by postcode
  • A clear, close picture of the problem area
  • Details of any past repairs
  • Something in shot to show the size

Getting a price is easy: take a close-up of the damage and a picture from further back, send them over with your postcode, and we’ll reply with a fixed quote. Quotes are free and no obligation.

Common Side questions

Are you accredited?

Yes. Our accreditations include CHAS, Constructionline and SafeContractor. The full list is on our accreditations page.

Can tenants book a repair?

We’re happy to deal with the tenant, landlord or agent. Just make sure the landlord agrees.

What about rust by the waste?

Yes. We take out the rust and any loose enamel, fill the area, then colour-match the finish.

I tried a repair kit. Can you fix it?

Yes. We remove the old filler and start again. Mention it when you send pictures.

How quickly can you book me in?

We will give you dates with your quote. If it’s urgent, say so and we will do what we can.

When can I have a bath again?

Normally within a day, though it depends on what we have done.

Do I need to be at home?

Yes. The technician needs access to the room for the visit, at a time we agree with you.

Is it safe with children and pets around?

We ask you to keep children and pets out of the room while we work. The rest of the house is unaffected.

When we’d advise against a repair

It helps to know what we can’t do:

  • Rust that has eaten right through a steel bath
  • A bath that flexes because its feet or cradle have failed (that needs fixing first)
  • Leaks from the waste or overflow fittings (a plumber’s job)

Not sure? Send photos and we will give you a straight answer.

Materials we work on in Common Side

  • Cast iron enamel
  • Roll-top & freestanding
  • Pressed steel enamel
  • Whirlpool & spa baths
  • Acrylic

DIY repairs versus a professional job

It’s natural to want to try a repair yourself. The risk is that a kit repair hides the damage for a while, then fails, and the old filler has to come out before a proper repair.

A DIY attempt isn’t a disaster. We remove the old filler and start again, so it won’t stop us repairing it. It does add a little time, so tell us about it when you send pictures.

Materials and what they mean for the repair

Pressed steel

Pressed steel is thinner and lighter, with an enamel finish like cast iron. Chips rust quickly on steel, particularly by the plughole, so early repairs matter.

Acrylic

Acrylic is light and warm to the touch, but it needs firm support underneath. Repairs to cracks are reinforced from the back.

What we do, step by step

We begin by going over the job with you, so you know exactly what we are doing. After that, protection goes down around the work area and the work begins. It normally takes a few hours, depending on the damage, and we will tell you if anything changes.

  1. We clean the area and remove any loose enamel or rust.
  2. The chip or crack is filled, then sanded level with the bath.
  3. We mix the colour on the day to match your bath’s exact shade.
  4. We build up the finish and polish it into the surrounding enamel.
  5. We leave it to cure; you can usually use the bath the next day.

Before we arrive

  • Keep children and pets away from the room on the day
  • Let us know which floor the room is on
  • Move bottles, mats and clutter away from the area
