Bath re-enamelling in Courtsend without replacing anything

The bath stays where it is, so your taps, tiles and plumbing are left alone. It typically takes one visit, with the bath ready to use the following day. Typical jobs include wear marks under the taps and stains that won’t shift, on pressed steel baths, cast iron baths and basins & shower trays.

Every job is backed for twelve months, and the guarantee is the same wherever you live. We return to put right any problem with the work.

Different materials, different repairs

Cast iron

Cast iron baths are so heavy that repairing in place makes obvious sense. The enamel is the part that wears or chips, and that is the part we put right.

Pressed steel

Under the enamel of a steel bath is thin metal. Once a chip exposes it, rust follows quickly, so we treat and seal the metal before filling.

Prices and what affects them

Prices start from £350. We price every job individually, from your photos. The main factors are:

  • How much damage there is
  • How many items we do on one visit
  • Previous DIY repairs that have to come out
  • Access to the area

Set against the cost of replacement, a repair is generally a fraction of the price, because there’s no removal, plumbing or making good. Your fixed quote shows exactly what’s included.

Getting a price from pictures

Phone photos are fine, there’s no need for anything special. Just make sure we can see:

  • One sharp close-up of the damage
  • Good light, ideally daylight, without flash glare
  • A photo taken from further back
  • Where you are, by postcode

You don’t need a survey visit. Nearly every job can be priced from pictures: send a close-up, a wider shot and your postcode, and we will come back to you with a fixed figure.

Repairing versus replacing in Courtsend

Getting a cast iron bath out is hard work: it’s very heavy, may need breaking up, and the replacement can be costly. Resurfacing in place avoids that entirely. Resurfacing from £350, with every job priced individually. Every job is a little different, so we price each one individually. The size and type of damage, the material and access all play a part, and combining jobs on one visit brings the cost down.

How the visit works

Your technician turns up at the time we agreed with you and looks over the damage before anything else. Dust sheets and masking tape go down before any work starts. The work itself takes the best part of a day, and the room is left clean and tidy.

  1. First we look the bath over and confirm the finish.
  2. Everything around the bath is masked and covered.
  3. The bath is degreased, repaired and keyed.
  4. We apply the primer and then the finish coats.
  5. The masking comes off, we tidy up and tell you when it can be used.

How to prepare

  • Let the surface dry out before the visit
  • Let us know which floor the room is on
  • Make sure the room can be ventilated

How to get a price

Getting a quote takes a couple of minutes: take one close-up and one wider shot of the bath, include your postcode and send them to us. What comes back is a fixed price, not a guess.

Advice

Should I try a DIY kit first?

The difference between a kit and a professional repair is mostly in the preparation and colour. We prepare the area properly, mix the colour on site and polish the finish to match, then guarantee it for a year.

DIY kits are sold for most surfaces, and they can tidy up a tiny mark. Where they fall down is colour and preparation: they come in a handful of shades, and if the surface is not prepared the repair will not last.

When a repair isn’t the answer

It helps to know what we can’t do:

  • Anything hidden under an old coating, until we remove it
  • Acrylic that moves when you stand in it
  • Holes rusted through the metal

Send us pictures and we’ll tell you honestly.

Surfaces we repair

  • Pressed steel baths
  • Cast iron baths
  • Basins & shower trays
  • Victorian roll-tops
  • Acrylic baths

Looking after it afterwards

Most damage we see is avoidable. These habits help:

  • Stick to gentle, non-abrasive cleaners
  • Don’t leave a chip unrepaired
  • Fix dripping taps quickly
  • Leave the bath for the full curing time before using it

Rinse the bath and wipe it over after use, particularly where water is hard, to stop limescale building up.

On a worn bath, rust spots keep spreading. Resurfacing before they spread keeps it simpler.
