Bath re-enamelling in Crooklands without replacing anything
We re-enamel a lot of period and roll-top baths, which are heavy, hard to move and costly to replace. Doing them in place keeps an original feature. We are frequently asked to fix an old resurfacing that’s failing and an original cast iron bath that needs restoring, on cast iron baths, Victorian roll-tops and pressed steel baths.
A one-year guarantee comes as standard, so you’re covered after the visit.

When we would advise against a repair
We will not take on work that will not last, so here’s what a repair can’t put right:
- Acrylic that moves when you stand in it
- Holes rusted through the metal
- Plumbing leaks, which need a plumber
Not sure? Send pictures and we’ll give you a straight answer before booking.

DIY kit or professional repair?
It’s tempting to reach for a kit, but many of the jobs we do start with putting right a DIY repair. Getting it right first time is typically cheaper.
What a professional repair adds is preparation, colour matching and finishing. We clean and key the area properly, mix the colour to your surface and finish it to the same sheen, then guarantee it for a year.
Repair or replace: which is better?
Replacing a cast iron bath is a big job: they’re heavy, frequently need breaking up, and a new one is not cheap. Resurfacing in place avoids that entirely. Resurfacing from £350, with every job priced individually. Compared with replacing, repairing usually costs far less, because there’s no removal, plumbing or making good. The quote lists exactly what you are paying for.

What bath re-enamelling costs
Prices start from £350. There’s no charge for travel to Crooklands. The price depends on:
- The colour and finish to match
- The material
- The type of damage
- Whether old repairs or coatings need taking off
A repair is priced on what needs doing, not your postcode. You’ll see the full price before you book.
Send photos for a quote
Before you send photos, a few simple things make all the difference:
- Whether it’s been repaired or coated before
- One sharp close-up of the damage
- Something in shot to show the size
- A wider photo showing the entire bath
Send us a photo of the damage and one of the whole item, and tell us you’re in Crooklands, and we will come back with a fixed quote.
Crooklands: your questions answered
What if the damage is worse than the pictures show?
We’ll show you and explain before doing anything extra. You won’t be charged for anything you haven’t agreed.
What do you need from me?
Some photos, your postcode and how to reach you. On the day, access to the room.
Will there be a smell?
It depends on the job, but frequently a little. Ventilation keeps it to a minimum, and it soon fades.
Is there a guarantee?
Yes, for a year. If there’s a problem with the work in that time, we come back and put it right.
Are you accredited?
We’re accredited with CHAS, Constructionline, SafeContractor, SMAS Worksafe and Builder’s Profile.
Can you redo someone else’s repair?
Usually, yes. The old repair comes out first, so let us know about it.
Can I add another job to the visit?
Yes. Combining jobs on one visit brings the cost down. Include pictures of each item.
I’m a tenant. Can you help?
Of course. Check with your landlord; we can send the quote to them too.
Repairs by material
Pressed steel
Steel baths and trays have a thin metal body under the enamel. Once a chip exposes it, rust follows quickly, so we treat and seal the metal before filling.
Cast iron
Cast iron baths are the classic candidate for re-enamelling. The body lasts for generations; only the enamel wears, so a new finish makes them look new again.
How it works
We turn up at the time we agreed with you and looks over the damage before anything else. The floor and nearby surfaces are covered before we open a single tin. The work itself takes most of the day, and we leave the room as we found it.
- We check the bath and agree the finish with you.
- Everything around the bath is masked and covered.
- We degrease the bath, fix any damage and key the surface.
- We apply the primer and then the finish coats.
- We remove the masking, tidy up and give you the curing time.
Preparing for the visit
- Make sure the room can be ventilated
- Ensure the area is dry
- Plan for the room to be out of bounds to pets and children
Ask for a price
No survey visit is needed: we price from photos. Send them through the quote form, or call 0345 017 0787 if you’d rather talk it through, and we’ll come back with a fixed figure.
Advice
Looking after it afterwards
It’s all simple stuff, just a few sensible habits:
- Use washing-up liquid and a soft cloth
- Rinse off hair dye, oils and bath bombs straight away
- Don’t leave a chip unrepaired
- Keep suction mats out of the bath
Rinse the bath and wipe it over after use, especially in hard water areas, to stop limescale building up.
Worn enamel only gets rougher with time, and any rust spreads underneath. Resurfacing sooner means less repair work first.

Do you need bath re-enamelling in Crooklands?
In hard water areas, limescale and the cleaning it needs wear enamel faster, and gritty cleaners are the worst culprits.
