How to look after the repair

Simple care helps the repair last. We recommend:

  • Wash away dyes and oils after use
  • Have chips seen to early
  • Never use suction bath mats
  • Stick to gentle, non-abrasive cleaners

Avoid hair dye, bath bombs and oils sitting on the surface, because they can mark the finish. Repair dripping taps promptly.

Worn enamel only gets rougher with time, and rust spots spread under the surface. Resurfacing sooner means less repair work first.

Bath re-enamelling in Currie without replacing anything

We clean, repair and prime the bath before spraying the new finish. The preparation is what makes it last, so we don’t cut corners on it. Typical jobs include an old resurfacing that’s failing and lots of chips and rust spots, on pressed steel baths, Victorian roll-tops and basins & shower trays.

All of our repairs are guaranteed for twelve months in Currie and everywhere else. If something goes wrong with the work, we come back.

When we would advise against a repair

A few problems are outside what a surface repair can do:

  • Leaking taps or wastes (a plumber’s job)
  • Problems we cannot see until an old finish comes off
  • Steel that has corroded right through

If in doubt, send pictures and we’ll say what we think.

Surfaces we repair

  • Cast iron baths
  • Basins & shower trays
  • Acrylic baths
  • Victorian roll-tops
  • Pressed steel baths

Do you need bath re-enamelling in Currie?

Many baths we resurface have simply been well used. The body of the bath is normally perfectly sound.

Send us a picture if you notice any of these:

  • An original cast iron bath that needs restoring
  • A bath in a colour that no longer suits
  • Chips and rust in more than one place
  • Enamel that’s lost its shine and feels rough

DIY kit or professional repair?

If you’ve already tried a DIY fix, that is fine. We take the old repair out and do it properly, so it doesn’t stop a professional repair. It does add a little time, so tell us about it when you send photos.

If you are set on a kit, follow its instructions closely, make sure the area is clean and completely dry, and give it the full curing time. If it doesn’t work out, we can still repair it properly.

Repair or replace in Currie?

Replacing a bath can take several days across several trades. Resurfacing takes one technician and typically a day, with the bath back in use the following day. Resurfacing from £350, with every job priced individually. Rather than charging by the hour, we price the entire job up front. Damage, material and access decide it, and doing several items at once reduces it.

What we do, step by step

You do not need to empty the room beforehand. We bring everything we need with us, put protection down and get going once we’ve agreed what we’re doing. It usually takes most of the day, and you can get on with other things while we’re there.

  1. We check the bath and agree the finish with you.
  2. Everything around the bath is masked and covered.
  3. The bath is degreased, repaired and keyed.
  4. Primer and finish coats are applied.
  5. The masking comes off, we tidy up and tell you when it can be used.

Getting ready for the visit

  • Have somewhere for us to park nearby if possible
  • Keep children and pets away from the room on the day
  • Open a window if you can

We price from pictures so you don’t have to wait in for a survey. Send them through the quote form, or call 0345 017 0787 if you’d rather talk it through, and you’ll get a fixed figure back.

Repairs by material

Acrylic

We resurface acrylic baths as well, with a coating system suited to acrylic. It must be solid and not flex underfoot.

Pressed steel

Steel baths and trays have a thin metal body under the enamel. Exposed steel rusts quickly, so the metal is treated and sealed before the repair.

Prices and what affects them

Prices start from £350. There are no hourly rates or hidden extras. The price depends on:

  • Unusual colours or finishes
  • How many items we do on one visit
  • Any earlier repairs that need removing first
  • How much damage there is

A repair normally costs much less than people expect, particularly next to the cost of replacement. Send photos and we will give you the exact figure.

Send photos for a quote

You can take the photos on your phone, there is no need for anything special. Make sure they show:

  • A coin or ruler next to the damage for scale
  • A wider photo showing the entire bath
  • The postcode, so we can plan the visit
  • Details of any past repairs

If you are in Currie and want a price, the easiest route is photos: one close up, one from further back, plus your postcode. You will get a fixed quote with dates to choose from.

Currie: your questions answered

Do you need to take the bath out?

No. It’s re-enamelled where it stands, so nothing else is disturbed.

Do you cover the entire of Edinburgh?

The whole UK, including all of Edinburgh. Send your postcode with your pictures and we will offer you dates.

Is a repair better than a new one?

Generally, yes. Replacement brings removal, refitting and making good, which a repair avoids. We’ll be honest if it’s not worth it.

Can I get a quote without a visit?

Usually, yes. A close-up and a wider photo are enough to give a fixed price.

Do you hold any accreditations?

We hold CHAS, Constructionline, SafeContractor, SMAS Worksafe and Builder’s Profile accreditations.

Can landlords book you?

Yes. We work for landlords, agents, builders and businesses as well as homeowners.

I rent my home. Can I book you?

We can work for tenants, landlords or agents. Just make sure the landlord agrees.

Will the price change on the day?

If we find something the pictures didn’t show, we explain it first. The price only changes if you agree.
