Bath re-enamelling near Douglas

About our bath re-enamelling in Douglas

After cleaning, repairing and priming, we spray on the new finish. The preparation is what makes it last, so we do not cut corners on it. We work on Victorian roll-tops, pressed steel baths and cast iron baths, and people most frequently call us about enamel that’s lost its shine and feels rough and an original cast iron bath that needs restoring.

Your repair is guaranteed for a year, as with every job we do.

What we do, step by step

On the day itself, there’s little for you to do. Show us the job, point us to the room, and we will get on with it. The job generally runs to most of the day.

  1. We mask and protect the room and ventilate it.
  2. Next we degrease the bath and fix chips and rust spots.
  3. The surface is prepared and a bonding primer applied.
  4. We spray on the new enamel finish in several coats.
  5. We leave it to cure, and it’s usually ready the day after.

Getting ready for the visit

  • Tell us if there are stairs or a lift
  • Clear toiletries, mats and anything else from around the area
  • Plan for the room to be out of bounds to pets and children

Honest limits

We’d rather lose a job than do one that won’t last, so here’s what a repair cannot put right:

  • An acrylic bath that flexes badly underfoot
  • A cast iron or steel bath that’s cracked right through
  • Leaking taps or wastes (a plumber’s job)

If in doubt, send photos and we’ll say what we think before booking.

Materials we repair

  • Pressed steel baths
  • Basins & shower trays
  • Victorian roll-tops
  • Cast iron baths
  • Acrylic baths

Landlords, agents and businesses in Douglas

Housing associations and facilities teams use us for planned and reactive repairs. A repair avoids taking out and refitting, which is easier on the people living there.

For anyone letting property in or around Douglas, we will quote for several properties at once. Just send pictures for each address and we’ll come back with a combined price.

DIY repairs versus a professional job

A DIY attempt is not a disaster. We take the old repair out and do it properly, so it does not stop a professional repair. Just mention it when you send pictures, as it can add time.

If you do try a kit, read the instructions carefully, make sure the area is clean and completely dry, and give it the full curing time. If it doesn’t work out, we can still repair it properly.

Aftercare tips

Aftercare is simple:

  • A quick wipe after use keeps limescale away
  • Don’t leave bottles, razors or sponges standing on the surface
  • Get any chip repaired quickly
  • Leave the bath for the full curing time before using it

Avoid hair dye, bath bombs and oils sitting on the surface, because they can mark the finish. Fix dripping taps quickly.

If a previous coating is starting to peel, don’t pick at it. Water gets under it and the damage spreads, so have it stripped and resurfaced.

What we’re called out for in Douglas

Once enamel loses its gloss, it stains more easily, and cleaning harder only makes it worse. That’s the point where re-enamelling makes sense.

Keep an eye out for any of the following:

  • Chips and rust in more than one place
  • An old resurfacing that is failing
  • An outdated colour you’d like to change
  • Stains that will not shift

What your quote should include

  • A fixed price, and whether VAT is included
  • How the room is protected while they work
  • How changes to the job are handled
  • Whether there are any call-out or travel charges

Our hiring checklist

What your bath is made of matters

Pressed steel

Steel baths and trays have a thin metal body under the enamel. Once a chip exposes it, rust follows quickly, so we treat and seal the metal before filling.

Roll-top and period baths

We can resurface a roll-top inside and out, and the outside can be refinished too.

How we price bath re-enamelling

Prices start from £350. Every quote is fixed and free. What we look at:

  • Whether old repairs or coatings need taking off
  • Where the damage is and how we get to it
  • How many areas need work
  • Doing more than one item at once

We charge the same wherever you are, so there is no premium for Douglas. What changes the price is the job itself: how much damage, what it’s made of and how many items.

Quotes from your pictures

Photographing the damage takes a minute, and it saves a visit. Try to send:

  • Whether it’s been repaired or coated before
  • Any details about the material
  • Your postcode, so we can check dates
  • One picture of the entire bath

There’s no need for us to visit first. Nearly every job can be priced from pictures: send a close-up, a wider shot and your postcode, and we’ll come back to you with a fixed figure.
