Bath re-enamelling in Downfield, done in place

Many of the baths we re-enamel are period roll-tops, which would be difficult and expensive to replace. Doing them in place keeps an original feature. We’re frequently asked to fix a coloured bath you want in white and thin, worn enamel in places, in acrylic baths, cast iron baths and pressed steel baths.

A one-year guarantee comes with the work, just as it does everywhere we cover.

Can I fix it myself?

A kit can be fine for a tiny mark out of sight. For damage in plain view, cracks, holes or rust, or coloured finishes, a professional repair is worth it.

We understand the appeal of fixing it yourself. The trouble is that kit repairs often look fine at first and then fail, and the old filler has to come out before a proper repair.

What your bath is made of matters

Acrylic

Acrylic is light and warm to the touch, but it relies on good support. Cracks are strengthened from behind before the front is finished.

Pressed steel

Under the enamel of a steel bath is thin metal. Once a chip exposes it, rust follows quickly, so we treat and seal the metal before filling.

How the visit works

You do not need to empty the room. Everything we use comes in the van with us, lay protective sheets and start once you’re happy with the plan. It normally takes a full day, and you can get on with other things while we’re there.

  1. First we protect the bathroom and set up ventilation.
  2. Next we degrease the bath and fix chips and rust spots.
  3. We key the surface and put on a bonding primer.
  4. We spray several coats of new enamel finish.
  5. Once cured, normally by the next day, the bath is ready.

Getting ready for the visit

  • Keep pets and children out of the room while we work
  • Clear the area around the damage
  • Make sure the area is dry

How to get a price

Email us a photo of the damage and a wider shot of the entire item, with your DD3 postcode, and we will reply with a fixed price.

Advice

What affects the price in Downfield

Prices start from £350. We price every job individually. What matters most is:

  • Access to the area
  • The size and number of damaged areas
  • Any earlier repairs that need removing first
  • The colour and finish to match

What it costs depends on the type and amount of damage, the material and how many items we do on one visit. We give a fixed price from your pictures, so there are no surprises on the day.

How to get a fixed price

Most quotes are done from photos alone. To help us price it:

  • A coin beside the damage so we can judge size
  • Daylight if possible, and no flash reflection
  • A picture taken from further back
  • Any earlier repairs or coatings

Pricing is simple: snap the damage close up and then the whole item, send them to us with your postcode, and we’ll reply with a fixed quote. Quotes are free and no obligation.

We check the damage, the material and your postcode, then reply with a quote with dates.

When a repair isn’t the answer

Some problems need a builder, plumber or fitter rather than us:

  • Acrylic that moves when you stand in it
  • Problems we cannot see until an old finish comes off
  • A metal bath with a through crack

Not sure? Send pictures and we will give you a straight answer before booking.

Materials we repair

  • Basins & shower trays
  • Victorian roll-tops
  • Acrylic baths
  • Pressed steel baths
  • Cast iron baths

Why repair rather than replace?

A refit takes several trades and several days. Resurfacing is one technician, normally in a day, and the bath can be used the day after. Prices start from £350. It helps to know what pushes a price up or down: the amount of damage, the material, access to the area, and how many jobs we do in one trip. Send pictures and you will get a fixed figure.
