Driby Top questions

Are you accredited?

We hold CHAS, Constructionline, SafeContractor, SMAS Worksafe and Builder’s Profile accreditations.

Is there any odour?

There can be some smell while we work. It clears as the materials cure.

Is the work guaranteed?

Yes: twelve months. If anything goes wrong with the repair within the year, we return to fix it.

How soon can you come?

Your quote comes with available dates. If it’s urgent, say so and we’ll do what we can.

Does re-enamelling smell?

A little, during the work. Ventilation keeps it down, and it fades as the finish cures.

Is it worth repairing rather than replacing?

Typically, if the item is otherwise sound. A repair avoids removal and making good. We will tell you honestly if replacement makes more sense.

Will you leave a mess?

No. The work area is masked and covered, and we take our waste away with us.

Do you cover Driby Top?

Yes. We cover the entire UK and come to Driby Top and the rest of Lincolnshire. Send photos and we’ll quote, or call 0345 017 0787.

How we handle bath re-enamelling in Driby Top

Re-enamelling works especially well on cast iron and steel, and we can resurface acrylic baths as well. You end up with a smooth, glossy surface. We work on Victorian roll-tops, cast iron baths and pressed steel baths, and common reasons people contact us are a bath that stays dull however much you clean it and an old resurfacing that’s failing.

Your repair is guaranteed for a year, as with every job we do.

Repairs by material

Acrylic

Acrylic baths can be resurfaced too, using a system that bonds to acrylic. The bath needs to be firm and well supported.

Roll-top and period baths

Freestanding roll-tops can be done inside and out, with the outside refinished as well.

What bath re-enamelling costs

Resurfacing from £350. We give every job a fixed quote from pictures. These are the things that affect it:

  • Whether it’s a chip, crack, burn or wear
  • How many items we do on one visit
  • How many areas need work
  • Access to the area

We charge the same wherever you are, so there is no premium for Driby Top. What changes the price is the job itself: the material, the amount of damage and how many items.

What we cannot put right

In fairness, some problems need a different fix:

  • A cast iron or steel bath that’s cracked right through
  • Problems we can’t see until an old finish comes off

If in doubt, send pictures and we’ll say what we think.

Repair or replace in Driby Top?

If the bath is sound, re-enamelling is usually much cheaper than replacing it, when you count removal, plumbing, tiling and decorating. It’s much quicker too. Prices start from £350. The price depends on the type and amount of damage, what it’s made of and how many jobs we combine into one visit. You get a fixed quote from your pictures, so there are no surprises on the day.

Aftercare tips

It’s all simple stuff, just a few sensible habits:

  • A dripping tap should be fixed promptly
  • Rinse off hair dye, oils and bath bombs immediately
  • Leave the bath for the full curing time before using it
  • Use washing-up liquid and a soft cloth

Give the finish its full curing time before using the bath. Then, gentle cleaning with a soft cloth is enough.

If a previous coating is starting to peel, do not pick at it. Water gets under it and the damage spreads, so have it stripped and resurfaced.

Can I fix it myself?

It’s tempting to reach for a kit, but the repairs we redo most frequently are DIY ones that have discoloured or lifted. Doing it properly first is usually the cheaper route.

A DIY attempt is not a disaster. We take the old repair out and do it properly, so it won’t stop us repairing it. Just mention it when you send pictures, as it can add time.

The process

Once we’re through the door, the aim is to do the job without disturbing the rest of your home. Surfaces nearby are masked off, the job takes a full day, depending on what we find, and we finish with a tidy-up and a look at the finished work together.

  1. The bathroom is protected and ventilation set up.
  2. Old sealant is cut out and the bath is deep cleaned.
  3. We repair chips, rust spots and pitting.
  4. The surface is keyed and primed for the new finish.
  5. Several coats of finish are sprayed on, then it cures until the next day.

Preparing for the visit

  • Let the surface dry out before the visit
  • Tell us if there are stairs or a lift
  • Keep children and pets away from the room on the day
