Different materials, different repairs

Pressed steel

Under the enamel of a steel bath is thin metal. Exposed steel rusts quickly, so we treat and seal the metal before filling.

Cast iron

Re-enamelling suits cast iron baths perfectly. The body lasts for generations; only the enamel wears, so resurfacing gives them a new life.

Bath re-enamelling at your home in Dunvant

If your bath is sound but looks tired, resurfacing is normally the best value. There is no removal, plumbing or tiling involved. We’re frequently asked to fix stains that won’t shift and an outdated colour you’d like to change, on Victorian roll-tops, pressed steel baths and cast iron baths.

Peace of mind is built in: our one-year guarantee applies to every job, and we’ll explain exactly what it covers when we quote.

Signs you need bath re-enamelling in Dunvant

In hard water areas, limescale and the cleaning it needs wear enamel faster, and abrasive cleaners do the most damage.

Signs it’s time to call us include:

  • An old resurfacing that is failing
  • A period or roll-top bath worth keeping
  • Brown or grey marks that do not clean off
  • Several chips and rust patches

What to look for in a quote

  • Whether the price is fixed and includes VAT
  • Whether they match the colour on site
  • How changes to the job are handled
  • How long the guarantee is and what it covers

Aftercare tips

Much of the damage we repair could have been avoided. These habits help:

  • Wash away dyes and oils after use
  • Repair dripping taps early
  • Don’t leave bottles, razors or sponges standing on the surface
  • Get any chip repaired quickly

Wait for the curing time we give you before the first bath. Then, gentle cleaning with a soft cloth is enough.

If a previous coating is starting to peel, do not pick at it. Moisture gets underneath and makes it worse, so have it stripped and resurfaced.

Repair or replace: which is better?

Replacing a cast iron bath is a big job: it’s very heavy, may need breaking up, and the replacement can be costly. Re-enamelling avoids all of it. Our bath re-enamelling starts from £350. No two jobs are quite the same, so we price each one individually. The size and type of damage, the material and access all play a part, and doing several things on one visit costs less than separate visits.

How the visit works

When we visit, the technician arrives at the agreed time, protects the room with dust sheets and masking and gets started. Expect it to take a full day. We tidy up before we leave and tell you when it’s ready to use.

  1. We mask and protect the room and ventilate it.
  2. The bath is cleaned, degreased and any chips or rust repaired.
  3. We prepare the surface and apply a bonding primer.
  4. Several coats of new finish are sprayed on.
  5. We leave it to cure, and it’s normally ready the following day.

What affects the price in Dunvant

Prices start from £350. Each job gets its own fixed quote. This is what makes a difference:

  • The material
  • The colour and finish to match
  • Any earlier repairs that need removing first
  • Whether it’s a chip, crack, burn or wear

The price depends on how much damage there is and what kind, the material and how many jobs we combine into one visit. We give a fixed quote from your photos, so you know the cost before booking.

How to get a fixed price

Two or three clear photos are generally enough. Try to include:

  • Something in shot to show the size
  • Daylight if possible, and no flash reflection
  • Any earlier repairs or coatings
  • The material, if you know it

No survey visit is needed: we price from photos. Use the quote form, or ring 0345 017 0787 to talk it through, and you will get a fixed figure back.

Work for landlords and builders

  • Damage hidden under a previous coating, until it’s stripped back
