Need bath re-enamelling in Swansea?

About bath re-enamelling in Swansea

We re-enamel a lot of period and roll-top baths, which are heavy, hard to move and costly to replace. Doing them in place keeps an original feature. Common call-outs are for stains that won’t shift and a coloured bath you want in white, on basins & shower trays, Victorian roll-tops and pressed steel baths.

We begin by going over the job with you, so you know exactly what we are doing. Next, we cover and mask everything nearby and the work begins. It normally takes most of the day, and we’ll tell you if anything changes.

  1. We check the bath and agree the finish with you.
  2. Everything around the bath is masked and covered.
  3. We degrease the bath, fix any damage and key the surface.
  4. We apply the primer and then the finish coats.
  5. The masking comes off, we tidy up and tell you when it can be used.

Cost

Prices start from £350. Set against the cost of replacement, a repair is typically a fraction of the price, because nothing has to be taken out, refitted or made good. Your fixed quote shows exactly what’s included.

Signs you need bath re-enamelling

Often the bath has just had decades of use. Underneath, a cast iron or steel bath is usually as strong as ever.

Get in touch if you’ve noticed any of these:

  • Enamel that is lost its shine and feels rough
  • Staining under the taps and around the waste
  • Lots of chips and rust spots
  • Wear marks under the taps

Repairing versus replacing

A refit takes several trades and several days. Resurfacing is one technician, normally in a day, and the bath can be used the day after.

Repairs by material

Cast iron

Cast iron baths are the classic candidate for re-enamelling. The body lasts for generations; only the enamel wears, so a new finish makes them look new again.

Acrylic

Acrylic is light and warm to the touch, but it needs firm support underneath. Repairs to cracks are reinforced from the back.

Looking after it afterwards

So the finish stays in good condition for years:

  • Get any chip repaired quickly
  • Use washing-up liquid and a soft cloth
  • Do not let dyes or oils sit on the finish
  • Don’t leave bottles, razors or sponges standing on the surface

Stick to mild, non-abrasive cleaners, do not use suction bath mats, and keep bottles and razors off the surface.

If a previous coating is starting to peel, don’t pick at it. Moisture gets underneath and makes it worse, so have it stripped and resurfaced.

DIY repairs versus a professional job

A DIY attempt is not a disaster. We take the old repair out and do it properly, so it does not stop a professional repair. It does add a little time, so tell us about it when you send photos.

It’s natural to want to try a repair yourself. The risk is that a kit repair hides the damage for a while, then fails, and the old filler has to come out before a proper repair.

Common questions in Swansea

How soon can you come?

Your quote comes with available dates. Tell us if you need it done quickly.

Can you redo someone else’s repair?

In most cases. The old repair comes out first.

Is it safe with children and pets around?

We ask you to keep children and pets out of the room while we work. The rest of the house is unaffected.

What if the damage is worse than the pictures show?

We stop, show you and agree any change before carrying on. Nothing extra is done without your say-so.

How long does re-enamelling take?

Normally a day, then it’s ready to use the following day. A badly pitted bath can need a second day.

What areas do you cover?

We cover the entire UK, including Swansea. Send your postcode with your pictures and we’ll confirm dates.

Can landlords book you?

Yes, often. We quote for multiple addresses and fit around tenancy changeovers.
