Bath re-enamelling for Eccles homes

Materials and what they mean for the repair

Pressed steel

Pressed steel baths take a new finish well, as long as any rust is dealt with first. Steel often rusts by the plughole, so we check it carefully.

Cast iron

A cast iron bath is heavy enough that most people never want to move it. Only the enamel surface wears or chips, and that is what we repair.

How we handle bath re-enamelling in Eccles

Re-enamelling works especially well on cast iron and steel, and we can resurface acrylic baths as well. The result is a smooth, even, glossy finish. Common call-outs are for a dull, rough surface that won’t come clean and staining under the taps and around the waste, across Victorian roll-tops, basins & shower trays and cast iron baths.

The work is guaranteed for twelve months. If something isn’t right in that time, we come back and put it right.

We review the photos and send a fixed quote with dates.

Do I have to be there?

Is there a guarantee?

What happens if you find more damage?

If we find something the pictures didn’t show, we explain it first. The price only changes if you agree.

Do you charge for travel?

Travel is included in the price, with the same prices everywhere we work.

Looking after it afterwards

It’s all simple stuff, just a few sensible habits:

  • Keep suction mats out of the bath
  • A dripping tap should be fixed promptly
  • Store bottles off the bath
  • Wipe the bath dry after use in hard water areas

Wipe the bath dry after use where you can, especially in hard water areas, and rinse off any bath products.

Avoid scrubbing a dull bath with abrasive cleaners. It just wears the enamel further and makes resurfacing more work.

Why repair rather than replace?

A new bath means a plumber, removing a heavy bath, making good the walls and tiles and days without a bathroom. Re-enamelling gives the bath a new finish with the bath left where it is. Resurfacing from £350, with every job priced individually. What it costs depends on the type and amount of damage, what it’s made of and how many jobs we combine into one visit. We give a fixed quote from your photos, so there are no surprises on the day.

The process

Once we’re through the door, we keep the work contained to the one room. Surfaces nearby are masked off, the work takes most of the day, depending on what we find, and we finish by cleaning up and talking you through the result.

  1. The bathroom is protected and ventilation set up.
  2. We remove the old silicone and deep clean the bath.
  3. Chips, rust and pitting are repaired.
  4. We key the bath and apply a bonding primer.
  5. Several coats of finish are sprayed on, then it cures until the next day.

Before we arrive

  • Let us know which floor the room is on
  • Keep pets and children out of the room while we work
  • Avoid using the area for a few hours before we arrive

How to get a price

Getting a quote takes a couple of minutes: take one close-up and one wider shot of the bath, include your postcode and send them over. What comes back is a fixed price, not a guess.

DIY repairs versus a professional job

We understand the appeal of fixing it yourself. The risk is that a kit repair hides the damage for a while, then fails, and the old filler has to come out before a proper repair.

A kit can be fine for a tiny mark out of sight. For damage in plain view, cracks, holes or rust, or coloured finishes, a professional repair is worth it.

Landlord and trade work in Eccles

Letting agents frequently send us photos straight from the inventory. That means we can quote before you even visit the property, and we can arrange access with the tenant directly if that helps.

For anyone letting property in or around Eccles, we can repair and quote for several addresses together. Send pictures for each one and we’ll come back with a combined price.

What we can’t put right

Not everything can be repaired, and we’ll tell you before we start. We cannot fix:

  • Leaking taps or wastes (a plumber’s job)
  • Acrylic that moves when you stand in it
  • Problems we can’t see until an old finish comes off

Not sure? Send pictures and we will give you a straight answer before you book.
