About our bath re-enamelling in Erskine

The bath stays where it is, so the taps, tiles and plumbing aren’t touched. Most baths are done in one visit, with the bath ready to use the following day. We’re frequently asked to fix enamel that’s lost its shine and feels rough and a roll-top that’s seen better days, on acrylic baths, basins & shower trays and Victorian roll-tops.

Peace of mind is built in: each job carries a one-year guarantee, and we explain what it covers before booking.

Can I fix it myself?

We understand the appeal of fixing it yourself. The trouble is that kit repairs often look fine at first and then fail, and then the old filler has to be removed first.

It’s tempting to reach for a kit, but the repairs we redo most frequently are DIY ones that have discoloured or lifted. Doing it properly first is normally the cheaper route.

  • Anything hidden under an old coating, until we remove it
  • Plumbing leaks, which need a plumber

Not sure? Send pictures and we’ll give you a straight answer.

How the visit works

Visits start with a quick look at the job together, so you know exactly what we are doing. After that, protection goes down around the work area and the work begins. It normally takes a full day.

  1. The room is masked, protected and ventilated.
  2. Next we degrease the bath and fix chips and rust spots.
  3. We key the surface and put on a bonding primer.
  4. We spray on the new enamel finish in several coats.
  5. We leave it to cure, and it’s typically ready the following day.

Preparing for the visit

  • Tell us about parking, stairs or access
  • Let the surface dry out before the visit
  • Tell us if there are stairs or a lift

Signs it’s time to call us include:

  • Staining under the taps and around the waste
  • Chips and rust in more than one place
  • A dull, rough surface that won’t come clean
  • A period or roll-top bath worth keeping

  • Whether the price is fixed and includes VAT

Our hiring checklist

Why repair rather than replace?

There are times replacing is better: a cracked-through bath, a change of size or shape, or a full refit. In most other cases, resurfacing is the better choice. Resurfacing from £350, with every job priced individually. Compared with replacing, repairing usually costs far less, because there’s no removal, plumbing or making good. The quote lists exactly what you are paying for.

Why Erskine clients choose us

  • Rooms protected and left tidy
  • Colour-matched on site
  • Most jobs done in one visit
  • Accredited with CHAS, Constructionline and SafeContractor

Looking after it afterwards

So the finish stays in good condition for years:

  • A dripping tap should be fixed promptly
  • Rinse off hair dye, oils and bath bombs immediately
  • Clean with a soft cloth and mild detergent
  • Never use suction bath mats

Treat the new finish gently at first: let it cure fully, then use mild cleaners only. After that, no abrasives and no suction mats.

Worn enamel only gets rougher with time, and rust spots spread under the surface. Resurfacing sooner means less repair work first.

Repairs by material

Acrylic

Acrylic baths can be resurfaced too, using a system that bonds to acrylic. The bath needs to be firm and well supported.

Cast iron

Re-enamelling suits cast iron baths perfectly. They’re built to last, and only the surface wears, so a new finish makes them look new again.

Work for landlords and builders

Hotels, guest houses and holiday lets cannot afford rooms out of action for long, so most of our work is done in a single visit. We can work around your bookings.

Letting agents often send us pictures straight from the inventory. You can have a price before you arrange access, and we can arrange access with the tenant directly if that helps.
