How we handle bath re-enamelling in Ffynnon-ddrain

Re-enamelling gives a worn bath a new glossy surface without a refit. It suits baths that are dull, stained, rough or chipped all over. Our technicians work on acrylic baths, pressed steel baths and Victorian roll-tops, and common reasons people get in touch are an original cast iron bath that needs restoring and brown or grey marks that don’t clean off.

Every job is backed for twelve months, and the guarantee is the same wherever you live. If something goes wrong with the work, we come back.

Work for landlords and builders

We regularly price jobs from inventory or check-out pictures. That means we can quote before you even visit the property, and we liaise with tenants about access if you’d like us to.

Hospitality businesses need rooms back in use quickly, so we keep visits short and tidy. We will fit around changeovers where we can.

Different materials, different repairs

Pressed steel

Steel baths re-enamel well, once any rust has been treated. Steel frequently rusts by the plughole, so we check it carefully.

Cast iron

Cast iron baths are so heavy that repairing in place makes obvious sense. Only the enamel surface wears or chips, and that’s the part we put right.

When to call us in Ffynnon-ddrain

Enamel doesn’t fail overnight. Abrasive cleaners, limescale and years of use dull the surface, generally first under the taps and around the waste.

Keep an eye out for any of the following:

  • Brown or grey marks that don’t clean off
  • A peeling or bubbling previous coating
  • A period or roll-top bath worth keeping
  • Several chips and rust patches

10 questions to ask before booking

Questions from Ffynnon-ddrain

Will the price change on the day?

If we find something the pictures didn’t show, we explain it first. The price only changes if you agree.

Can a failed resurfacing be redone?

Normally, yes. The old coating comes off before we resurface it. Tell us about it when you ask for a quote.

How durable is a resurfaced bath?

Care for it and it lasts. Gentle cleaning, no suction mats.

Can you make a coloured bath white?

Yes. Coloured baths can be resurfaced in white, and the basin and toilet can be done too.

How much does bath re-enamelling cost in Ffynnon-ddrain?

Prices start from £350. Because every job differs, we price from photos. You will get a fixed figure before booking.

What information do you need?

Just photos, your postcode and a contact number. On the day, access to the room.

Can you do the outside of a roll-top?

Yes. Inside and out.

Can you repair something that’s been repaired before?

In most cases. We remove the old repair before doing a new one.

What we cannot put right

We’d rather lose a job than do one that won’t last, so these are the limits:

  • Anything hidden under an old coating, until we remove it
  • Steel that has corroded right through
  • A poorly supported acrylic bath, until it’s firmed up

Not sure? Send photos and we will give you a straight answer.

What we work on

  • Pressed steel baths
  • Victorian roll-tops
  • Basins & shower trays
  • Cast iron baths
  • Acrylic baths

Why repair rather than replace?

Replacing a cast iron bath is a big job: it’s very heavy, may need breaking up, and the replacement can be costly. Re-enamelling avoids all of it. Our bath re-enamelling starts from £350. A repair is priced on what needs doing, not where you live. You will see the full price before booking, with no extras added later.

Aftercare tips

Good habits make a big difference to how long a repair lasts. Here’s what we suggest:

  • Use washing-up liquid and a soft cloth
  • Store bottles off the bath
  • Leave the bath for the full curing time before using it
  • Have chips seen to early

Wait for the curing time we give you before the first bath. Then, gentle cleaning with a soft cloth is enough.

If a previous coating is starting to peel, do not pick at it. Moisture gets underneath and makes it worse, so it’s better to have it stripped and redone.

Can I fix it myself?

DIY kits are sold for most surfaces, and they can tidy up a tiny mark. The trouble is colour and preparation: they come in a handful of shades, and if the surface isn’t prepared the repair will not last.

It’s tempting to reach for a kit, but many of the jobs we do start with putting right a DIY repair. Getting it right first time is normally cheaper.

The process

It’s a tidy, low-fuss visit. We confirm the time with you beforehand, protect the area, and get on with the job, which normally takes most of the day. If we find something your pictures didn’t show, we’ll explain it before carrying on.

  1. The bathroom is protected and ventilation set up.
  2. Old sealant is cut out and the bath is deep cleaned.
  3. Chips, rust and pitting are repaired.
  4. We key the bath and apply a bonding primer.
  5. The new finish is sprayed on in several coats and left to cure.

How to get a price

You do not need a survey visit. Nearly every job can be priced from pictures: we need a close-up, a wider picture and your postcode, and we’ll come back to you with a fixed figure.
