Bath re-enamelling in Fingringhoe

About our bath re-enamelling in Fingringhoe

Many of the baths we re-enamel are period roll-tops, which would be difficult and expensive to replace. Resurfacing them in place keeps the original bath. Whether it’s an old resurfacing that’s failing and thin, worn enamel in places, we can usually put it right, on basins & shower trays, Victorian roll-tops and acrylic baths alike.

A one-year guarantee comes as standard.

Aftercare tips

Simple care helps the repair last. We recommend:

  • Dry the bath after use to stop limescale
  • Store bottles off the bath
  • Wash away dyes and oils after use
  • Get any chip repaired quickly

Use mild, non-abrasive cleaners, do not use suction bath mats, and keep bottles and razors off the surface.

Don’t try to scrub a worn bath back to shine. It removes more of the surface and makes resurfacing more work.

Prices and what affects them

Prices start from £350. We give every job a fixed price from pictures. This is what makes a difference:

  • The material
  • Previous DIY repairs that have to come out
  • How easy the damage is to reach
  • How hard the colour is to match

Our prices are the same across the UK, so there is no premium for Fingringhoe. The job itself decides the price: the material, the amount of damage and how many items.

Quotes from your pictures

Phone pictures are fine. Make sure they show:

  • Whether it’s been repaired or coated before
  • A coin beside the damage so we can judge size
  • A wider photo showing the entire bath
  • Daylight if possible, and no flash reflection

There is no need for us to visit first. Nearly every job can be priced from pictures: send a close-up, a wider shot and your postcode, and we will come back to you with a fixed figure.

The process

On the day itself, there’s little for you to do. Let us in and show us the room, and we’ll get on with it. The job generally runs to a full day, tidy-up included.

  1. We sheet, mask and ventilate the room.
  2. Old sealant is cut out and the bath is deep cleaned.
  3. We repair chips, rust spots and pitting.
  4. The surface is keyed and primed for the new finish.
  5. Several coats of finish are sprayed on, then it cures.

Getting ready for the visit

  • Mention if the room is upstairs or in a flat
  • Let us know if it has been repaired before
  • Let us know about parking or access

How to get a price

Getting a price is easy: take a close-up of the damage and a photo from further back, send them over with your postcode, and you will get a fixed quote back. There is no charge for the quote and no obligation.

DIY kit or professional repair?

It’s tempting to reach for a kit, but the repairs we redo most often are DIY ones that have discoloured or lifted. Doing it properly first is normally the cheaper route.

DIY kits are sold for most surfaces, and they can make a small mark look better. Where they fall down is colour and preparation: they come in a handful of shades, and if the surface is not prepared the repair will not last.

Common problems we fix in Fingringhoe

By the time a bath is a few decades old, it may have a mix of issues: dull areas, chips, rust and staining. Re-enamelling deals with all of them in one go.

Look out for these signs:

  • An outdated colour you’d like to change
  • An original cast iron bath that needs restoring
  • A peeling or bubbling previous coating
  • Chips and rust in more than one place

Before you book anyone

  • What happens if they find more damage
  • If travel is included in the price
  • Whether the price is fixed and includes VAT
  • How soon you can use it again

Fingringhoe questions

Is it worth repairing rather than replacing?

In most cases, yes. A repair skips the removal, fitting and redecorating. We will be honest if it’s not worth it.

What areas do you cover?

All of Essex, and the rest of the UK. There is no extra charge for travel.

Can you repair something that’s been repaired before?

Typically, yes. The old repair comes out first, so mention it when you send pictures.

How do I book?

Photos of the damage, a photo of the whole bath and your postcode. Then we will agree a date.

Is it OK to have pets in the house?

Yes, as long as they stay out of the room we are working in. We will tell you when the room can be used again.

Do you cover Fingringhoe?

We do. Repair technicians travel to Fingringhoe from across the region, with no extra charge for travel.

What happens after I send photos?

We check the damage, the material and your postcode, then reply with a quote.

Do you do work for letting agents?

We do, regularly. We can quote for several properties together and work between tenancies.

Repairing versus replacing in Fingringhoe

If you like your bathroom but not your bath’s surface, resurfacing is the simplest answer. Tiles, panels and taps stay put. Prices start from £350. What it costs depends on how much damage there is and what kind, the material and how many jobs we combine into one visit. We give a fixed price from your pictures, so you know the cost before you book.

Why us?

  • No extra charge for your area
  • We leave the room as we found it
  • We will tell you if it’s not worth repairing
  • Accredited with CHAS, Constructionline and SafeContractor

When we’d advise against a repair

It helps to know what we can’t do too:

  • A bath split right through the body
  • Leaks from fittings rather than the bath
  • Acrylic that moves when you stand in it

Not sure? Send pictures and we’ll give you a straight answer before you book.

What we work on

  • Basins & shower trays
  • Cast iron baths
  • Victorian roll-tops
  • Pressed steel baths
  • Acrylic baths

Different materials, different repairs

Cast iron

Cast iron baths are the classic candidate for re-enamelling. The body lasts for generations; only the enamel wears, so resurfacing gives them a new life.

Acrylic

Acrylic is light and warm to the touch, but it relies on good support. Cracks are strengthened from behind before the front is finished.
