DIY kit or professional repair?
For a hairline mark somewhere you’ll never see, a kit may be enough. For anything you look at every day, anything that has rusted, cracked or holed, or anything on a coloured surface, a professional repair is worth it.
DIY kits are sold for most surfaces, and they can make a small mark look better. Where they fall down is colour and preparation: kits come in a few standard shades, and without proper cleaning and keying the filler often lifts.
About our bath re-enamelling in Follifoot
When a bath is structurally fine but worn out on the surface, re-enamelling is usually the most cost-effective option. It avoids removal, plumbing and re-tiling. Our technicians work on pressed steel baths, Victorian roll-tops and cast iron baths, and the jobs we see most are brown or grey marks that don’t clean off and a dull, rough surface that won’t come clean.
You’re covered for a year from the day of the repair. If anything isn’t right, ring us and we will come back.

How it works
You do not need to empty the room beforehand. We bring everything we need with us, put protection down and start once you are happy with the plan. Most jobs take a full day, and you’re welcome to carry on with your day while we work.
- First we protect the bathroom and set up ventilation.
- Next we degrease the bath and fix chips and rust spots.
- The surface is prepared and a bonding primer applied.
- We spray on the new enamel finish in several coats.
- Once cured, normally by the following day, the bath is ready.
Preparing for the visit
- Have somewhere for us to park nearby if possible
- Plan for the room to be out of bounds to pets and children
- Mention any earlier repairs or resurfacing

What we cannot put right
Some jobs aren’t right for a repair, for example:
- A bath that’s rusted through
- Leaks from fittings rather than the bath
- Problems we can’t see until an old finish comes off
Not sure? Send pictures and we will give you a straight answer before booking.
What we work on
- Acrylic baths
- Basins & shower trays
- Cast iron baths
- Pressed steel baths
- Victorian roll-tops
Should you replace it?
Replacing a cast iron bath is a big job: it’s very heavy, may need breaking up, and the replacement can be costly. Re-enamelling avoids all of it. Our bath re-enamelling starts from £350. We don’t add extras on the day. The price we quote from your photos is the price you pay, and if the damage turns out to be different, we discuss it before starting.
Why Follifoot clients choose us
- No need to remove anything
- We leave the room as we found it
- Colours mixed by hand to suit your surface
- One visit for most repairs

Work for landlords and builders
Rental properties take more wear, and replacing things at every changeover adds up. Repairing between tenants keeps the property presentable for less.
Housing associations and facilities teams use us for planned and reactive repairs. Repairing in place avoids the disruption of a replacement, which is easier on the people living there.
What your bath is made of matters
Cast iron
Cast iron baths are the classic candidate for re-enamelling. They’re built to last, and only the surface wears, so a new finish makes them look new again.
Acrylic
Acrylic baths can be resurfaced too, with a coating system suited to acrylic. It must be solid and not flex underfoot for the finish to last.
Keeping it looking good
Simple care helps the repair last. Our advice:
- Repair dripping taps early
- Wash away dyes and oils after use
- Don’t leave bottles, razors or sponges standing on the surface
- Never use suction bath mats
Give the finish its full curing time before using the bath. Then, gentle cleaning with a soft cloth is enough.
Leave a peeling coating alone. Water gets under it and the damage spreads, so it’s better to have it stripped and redone.
Follifoot questions
How long does re-enamelling take?
Normally a day, then it’s ready to use the following day. Deeply pitted baths may need a second day.
Can you change the colour of my bath?
Yes. Coloured baths can be resurfaced in white, and the basin and toilet can be done too.
Are you accredited?
We’re accredited with CHAS, Constructionline, SafeContractor, SMAS Worksafe and Builder’s Profile.
Are there extra charges for Follifoot?
There is no separate call-out charge. Your fixed price includes everything.
Do I need to be at home?
Yes. The technician needs access to the room for the visit, at a time that suits you.
Can you redo someone else’s repair?
Normally, yes. The old repair comes out first, so let us know about it.
Does the bath have to be removed?
Not at all. We work on the bath in place, with the room protected and ventilated.
Do you come to Follifoot?
We do. We send a technician to Follifoot for every job, and the price is the same as everywhere else.
How we price bath re-enamelling
Prices start from £350. Each job gets its own fixed quote. These are the things that affect it:
- Where the damage is and how we get to it
- How many areas need work
- The material and finish
- The colour and finish to match
Our prices are the same across the UK, with no extra for Follifoot. The job itself decides the price: how much damage, what it’s made of and how many items.
Send pictures for a quote
Before you send pictures, these tips help us give you a firm price:
- Good light, ideally daylight, without flash glare
- A wider photo showing the entire bath
- A coin or ruler next to the damage for scale
- The material, if you know it
Most customers in Follifoot get their price from photos. Tell us what happened and where you are, and we’ll send back a fixed quote and some dates.
