What we can’t put right

A few problems are outside what a surface repair can do:

  • Leaks from fittings rather than the bath
  • Steel that has corroded right through
  • Acrylic that moves when you stand in it

Not sure? Send photos and we’ll give you a straight answer before you book.

Materials we repair

  • Victorian roll-tops
  • Acrylic baths
  • Basins & shower trays
  • Cast iron baths
  • Pressed steel baths

Bath re-enamelling in Fourstones, done in place

The bath stays where it is, so your taps, tiles and plumbing are left alone. It typically takes one visit, and can be used again the next day. Our technicians work on pressed steel baths, acrylic baths and cast iron baths, and the jobs we see most are enamel that’s lost its shine and feels rough and a peeling or bubbling previous coating.

Peace of mind is built in: each job carries a one-year guarantee, and we’ll explain exactly what it covers when we quote.

What we do, step by step

Arrival times are agreed in advance, so you are not left guessing. Once we are there, the work takes most of the day in most cases. We leave the room clean.

  1. First we protect the bathroom and set up ventilation.
  2. We clean and degrease the bath and repair any chips or rust.
  3. We key the surface and put on a bonding primer.
  4. Several coats of new finish are sprayed on.
  5. The bath is left to cure and can typically be used the next day.

Before we arrive

  • Keep pets and children out of the room while we work
  • Keep a parking space free if you can
  • Let us know which floor the room is on

Questions from Fourstones

How long will the bath be out of use?

Generally one day, with the bath ready the following day. Deeply pitted baths may need a second day.

Is it safe with children and pets around?

We ask you to keep children and pets out of the room while we work and until it has cured. Everywhere else in the home is fine.

Can you change the colour of my bath?

Yes. Coloured baths can be resurfaced in white, and the basin and toilet can be done too.

What happens once I’ve sent pictures?

We come back with a fixed quote. There is no obligation to book.

When can you do it?

It depends on the time of year and where you are. We’ll offer you dates when we send your quote.

Do you cover the whole of Northumberland?

We work UK-wide, so Fourstones is covered. Prices don’t change with location.

Is my repair covered?

Every repair comes with our one-year guarantee. We’ll explain what it covers when we quote.

Can you price it without visiting?

Generally, yes. Clear pictures let us give you a fixed quote without visiting.

Repair or replace in Fourstones?

Replacing a cast iron bath is a big job: they’re heavy, frequently need breaking up, and a new one is not cheap. Re-enamelling avoids all of it. Prices start from £350. No two jobs are quite the same, so each one is priced on its own. What’s damaged, how badly and how easy it is to reach all make a difference, and doing several things on one visit costs less than separate visits.

Should I try a DIY kit first?

You can buy a DIY kit for most repairs, and they can make a small mark look better. Where they fall down is colour and preparation: kits come in a few standard shades, and without proper cleaning and keying the filler frequently lifts.

Kits are cheap and easy to find, but the repairs we redo most frequently are DIY ones that have discoloured or lifted. Getting it right first time is usually cheaper.

Work for landlords and builders

Hospitality businesses can’t afford rooms out of action for long, so most of our work is done in a single visit. We can work around your bookings.

We also carry out snagging repairs for builders and developers, fixing chips and scratches before handover. We hold CHAS, Constructionline and SafeContractor accreditations.

What affects the price in Fourstones

Prices start from £350. We price every job individually. What matters most is:

  • Unusual colours or finishes
  • Doing more than one item at once
  • Whether old repairs or coatings need taking off
  • The size and number of damaged areas

We charge the same wherever you are, with no extra for Fourstones. What changes the price is the job itself: the material, the amount of damage and how many items.

Send photos for a quote

Photographing the damage takes a minute, and it saves a visit. Please include:

  • The postcode, so we can plan the visit
  • One picture of the entire bath
  • A clear, close picture of the problem area
  • Any earlier repairs or coatings

Materials and what they mean for the repair

Roll-top and period baths

We can resurface a roll-top inside and out, with the outside refinished as well.

Pressed steel

Pressed steel baths take a new finish well, once any rust has been treated. Steel often rusts by the plughole, so we pay close attention there.

How to look after the repair

It’s all simple stuff, just a few sensible habits:

  • Dry the bath after use to stop limescale
  • Do not leave bottles, razors or sponges standing on the surface
  • Use washing-up liquid and a soft cloth
  • Don’t let dyes or oils sit on the finish

Use mild, non-abrasive cleaners, do not use suction bath mats, and keep bottles and razors off the surface.

Do not try to scrub a worn bath back to shine. It removes more of the surface.
