Bath re-enamelling in Grafton without replacing anything

When a bath is structurally fine but worn out on the surface, re-enamelling is normally the most cost-effective option. There is no removal, plumbing or tiling involved. Common call-outs are for a bath that stays dull however much you clean it and worn patches where water runs and sits, across cast iron baths, Victorian roll-tops and basins & shower trays.

The work is covered for a year after we finish. If anything is not right, ring us and we’ll sort it.

DIY repairs versus a professional job

What a professional repair adds is preparation, colour matching and finishing. We clean and key the area properly, mix the colour to your surface and finish it to the same sheen, then guarantee it for a year.

It’s natural to want to try a repair yourself. The risk is that a kit repair hides the damage for a while, then fails, and then the old filler has to be removed first.

How we price bath re-enamelling

Resurfacing from £350. We give every job a fixed quote from photos. This is what makes a difference:

  • Any earlier repairs that need removing first
  • Whether we combine several jobs
  • Unusual colours or finishes
  • The type of damage

We don’t add extras on the day. The price we quote from your pictures is the price you pay, and if the damage turns out to be different, we discuss it before starting.

How to get a fixed price

Most quotes are done from pictures alone. To make it quick:

  • Something in shot to show the size
  • A picture taken from further back
  • Whether it’s been repaired or coated before
  • Natural light rather than flash

There’s no need for us to visit first. Nearly every job can be priced from photos: we need a close-up, a wider picture and your postcode, and we’ll come back to you with a fixed figure.

How it works

We turn up at the time we agreed with you and checks the damage against your pictures first. Dust sheets and masking tape go down before any work starts. The work itself takes most of the day, and the room is left clean and tidy.

  1. We mask and protect the room and ventilate it.
  2. The bath is cleaned, degreased and any chips or rust repaired.
  3. The surface is prepared and a bonding primer applied.
  4. We spray on the new enamel finish in several coats.
  5. We leave it to cure, and it’s normally ready the following day.

Getting ready for the visit

What a repair can’t fix

In fairness, some problems need a different fix:

  • A bath that’s rusted through
  • Acrylic that moves when you stand in it
  • Leaks from fittings rather than the bath

Send us pictures and we’ll tell you honestly.

Materials we repair

  • Basins & shower trays
  • Cast iron baths
  • Pressed steel baths
  • Acrylic baths
  • Victorian roll-tops

Grafton questions

What happens next?

We come back with a fixed quote, plus dates. There’s no obligation to book.

Is it messy?

Dust sheets and masking go down before we start, and we clean up when we’ve finished.

Do you do work for letting agents?

We do, regularly. We quote for multiple addresses and fit around tenancy changeovers.

Do I have to be there?

Someone needs to let us in and show us the job. You do not need to watch us work.

Are you a vetted contractor?

We hold CHAS, Constructionline, SafeContractor, SMAS Worksafe and Builder’s Profile accreditations.

What happens if you find more damage?

It’s rare, but if it happens we talk to you first. The price only changes if you agree.

How durable is a resurfaced bath?

A well-prepared finish lasts a long time if it’s looked after. Avoid abrasive cleaners and suction mats.

Is there any odour?

A little, depending on the job. Ventilation keeps it to a minimum.

Repair or replace: which is better?

Replacing the bath means a plumber, lifting out the old bath, re-tiling or making good the walls and several days without a working bathroom. Resurfacing gives the bath a new finish without moving it. Prices start from £350. The price depends on the type and amount of damage, what it’s made of and how many jobs we combine into one visit. You get a fixed price from your photos, so you know the cost before you book.

Why Grafton clients choose us

  • Nothing taken out or refitted
  • Same prices wherever you are
  • One visit for most repairs
  • Every repair guaranteed for a year

Read our prices page and bath cost comparison.

Keeping it looking good

It’s all simple stuff:

  • Avoid suction-cup mats
  • Wipe the bath dry after use in hard water areas
  • A dripping tap should be fixed promptly
  • Keep toiletries on a shelf rather than in the bath

The first few days matter most: let it cure fully, then use mild cleaners only. From then on, avoid abrasives and suction mats.

The longer worn enamel is left, the rougher it gets, and any rust spreads underneath. Acting earlier keeps the preparation simpler.

Materials and what they mean for the repair

Cast iron

Cast iron baths are so heavy that repairing in place makes obvious sense. Only the enamel surface wears or chips, and that’s the part we put right.

Acrylic

We resurface acrylic baths as well, with a coating system suited to acrylic. The bath needs to be firm and well supported for the finish to last.
