How we handle bath re-enamelling in Great Altcar
We clean, repair and prime the bath before spraying the new finish. Most of the work, and most of the durability, is in the preparation, and we take our time over it. We regularly repair pressed steel baths, cast iron baths and acrylic baths, and people most frequently call us about brown or grey marks that don’t clean off and an outdated colour you’d like to change.
You get a one-year guarantee, the same in Great Altcar as everywhere else we work.

Great Altcar questions
Is there any odour?
There may be a mild smell during the work, which fades afterwards.
Is my repair covered?
Every repair comes with our one-year guarantee. Ask us what it covers when you get your quote.
Do you work in Great Altcar?
Yes, we do. Repair technicians travel to Great Altcar from across the region, and the price is the same as everywhere else.
Do you need to take the bath out?
No. We resurface it in place, so nothing else is disturbed.
Can you redo someone else’s repair?
Normally, yes. The old repair comes out first, so let us know about it.
Will the price change on the day?
It’s rare, but if it happens we talk to you first. The price only changes if you agree.
Can you repair several things at once?
Yes, and it’s often cheaper. Send pictures of everything together and you’ll get one combined price.
I’m a tenant. Can you help?
Yes, but check with your landlord or agent first. Many landlords are happy for a repair to be arranged before the end of a tenancy.
Keeping it looking good
Nothing complicated is needed, just a few sensible habits:
- Repair dripping taps early
- Stick to gentle, non-abrasive cleaners
- Wash away dyes and oils after use
- Keep suction mats out of the bath
A quick rinse and wipe after use helps, particularly where water is hard, so limescale can’t build up.
On a worn bath, rust spots keep spreading and make the job bigger. Resurfacing before they spread keeps it simpler.

- A bath in a colour that no longer suits
- Wear marks under the taps
- A period or roll-top bath worth keeping
- Staining under the taps and around the waste
What your quote should include
- Whether they match the colour on site
- Aftercare advice
- What the guarantee covers, and for how long
- Who will actually do the work
Repairs by material
Cast iron
Cast iron baths are so heavy that repairing in place makes obvious sense. Only the enamel surface wears or chips, and that’s the part we put right.
Roll-top and period baths
We can resurface a roll-top inside and out, and the outside can be refinished too.
Repairing versus replacing in Great Altcar
For a sound bath, resurfacing costs far less than replacement, when you count removal, plumbing, tiling and decorating. It’s much quicker too. Resurfacing from £350, with every job priced individually. There are no surprise extras on the day. What we quote from your photos is what you pay, unless the damage turns out to be different, in which case we talk to you first.
Why us?
- Colour mixed on the day to match
- CHAS and Constructionline accredited
- We leave the room as we found it
- Most jobs done in one visit
See our prices page and guide to resurfacing and replacement costs.
How the visit works
On the day, we arrive at the time we have agreed, cover the area with dust sheets and masking, and set to work. The job generally takes a full day. We clean up when we’re done and tell you when it’s ready to use.
- We check the bath and agree the finish with you.
- Everything around the bath is masked and covered.
- We degrease the bath, fix any damage and key the surface.
- We apply the primer and then the finish coats.
- We remove the masking, tidy up and give you the curing time.
Before we arrive
- Avoid using the area for a few hours before we arrive
- Have a window or extractor fan available
- Let us know if it has been repaired before
How to get a price
Call 0345 017 0787 or use the quote form. With a clear picture of the damage and one of the whole bath, we can price the job the same day in most cases.

DIY kit or professional repair?
It’s natural to want to try a repair yourself. The risk is that a kit repair hides the damage for a while, then fails, and then the old filler has to be removed first.
A DIY attempt isn’t a disaster. We take the old repair out and do it properly, so it doesn’t stop a professional repair. It does add a little time, so tell us about it when you send pictures.

If in doubt, send photos and we will say what we think before booking.
