Bath re-enamelling at your home in Grub Street
We resurface cast iron, steel and acrylic baths, including roll-tops and period baths. The finish is sprayed on in several coats over a bonding primer, once the bath has been cleaned, repaired and prepared. Typical jobs include thin, worn enamel in places and chips and rust in more than one place, across Victorian roll-tops, acrylic baths and cast iron baths.
The work is covered for a year after we finish. If anything is not right, ring us and we will sort it.

What your bath is made of matters
Cast iron
A cast iron bath is heavy enough that most people never want to move it. The enamel is the part that wears or chips, and that’s what we repair.
Pressed steel
Steel baths re-enamel well, as long as any rust is dealt with first. Rust around the waste is common on steel, so we pay close attention there.

Why repair rather than replace?
Replacing a bath typically involves a plumber, a fitter and a tiler. Re-enamelling takes one technician and usually one day, with the bath ready the day after. Our bath re-enamelling starts from £350. Rather than charging by the hour, we fix the price before we start. Damage, material and access decide it.

Grub Street: your questions answered
What information do you need?
A close-up, a wider photo and your postcode. Then we will agree a date.
What happens if you find more damage?
We stop, show you and agree any change before carrying on. Nothing extra is done without your say-so.
Does someone need to be in?
Yes. The technician needs access to the room for the visit, at a time we agree with you.
Do you need to take the bath out?
Not at all. We work on the bath in place, with the room masked and ventilated.
Which areas do you work in?
All of Norfolk, and the rest of the UK. Travel is included in the price.
How long does re-enamelling last?
It depends on preparation, use and care. Properly prepared and looked after, it lasts well, and our work is guaranteed for a year.
Do you come to Grub Street?
Yes, we do. We send a technician to Grub Street for every job, and the price is the same as everywhere else.
Is it worth repairing rather than replacing?
Normally, if the item is otherwise sound. Repairing avoids the cost and disruption of replacing. If replacing would be better, we will say so.
DIY kit or professional repair?
If you’ve already tried a DIY fix, that’s fine. We remove the old filler and start again, so it won’t stop us repairing it. It does add a little time, so tell us about it when you send pictures.
The difference between a kit and a professional repair is mostly in the preparation and colour. We prepare the area properly, mix the colour on site and polish the finish to match, and the work is guaranteed.
For landlords and businesses
Hotels, guest houses and holiday lets can’t afford rooms out of action for long, so we keep visits short and tidy. We’ll fit around changeovers where we can.
Rented homes see more wear and tear, and replacing things at every changeover adds up. Repairing between tenants keeps the property presentable for less.
What affects the price in Grub Street
Prices start from £350. There are no hourly rates or hidden extras. The price is based on:
- How hard the colour is to match
- Where the damage is and how we get to it
- The material
- Whether old repairs or coatings need taking off
Most people are surprised how affordable a repair is, particularly next to the cost of replacement. Photos let us give you the exact figure.
Quotes from your pictures
We price nearly every job from pictures. This is what we need:
- A close-up of the damage, in focus
- A wider photo showing the entire bath
- Good light, ideally daylight, without flash glare
- A coin or ruler next to the damage for scale
For a price in Grub Street, the easiest route is photos: one close up, one from further back, plus your postcode. We reply with a fixed quote and our next available dates.
The process
The work is clean and fairly quiet, so you can carry on at home. We protect the area first, then the job itself takes a full day. Before we leave, we explain the curing time and the aftercare.
- We mask and protect the room and ventilate it.
- The bath is cleaned, degreased and any chips or rust repaired.
- We prepare the surface and apply a bonding primer.
- We spray on the new enamel finish in several coats.
- The bath is left to cure and can generally be used the next day.
Before we arrive
- Let us know about parking or access
- Tell us if there are stairs or a lift
- Open a window if you can
How to get a price
There is no need for us to visit first. Photos are enough for us to price nearly every job: send a close-up, a wider shot and your postcode, and we’ll come back to you with a fixed figure.

Aftercare tips
Aftercare is simple:
- Do not use the bath until it has fully cured
- Keep toiletries on a shelf rather than in the bath
- Clean with a soft cloth and mild detergent
- Do not let dyes or oils sit on the finish
Use mild, non-abrasive cleaners, avoid suction bath mats, and keep bottles and razors off the surface.
Don’t try to scrub a worn bath back to shine. It just wears the enamel further and makes resurfacing more work.
