About our bath re-enamelling in Gunville

The bath stays where it is, so the taps, tiles and plumbing are not touched. It typically takes one visit, with the bath ready to use the following day. We regularly repair basins & shower trays, acrylic baths and pressed steel baths, and the jobs we see most are a roll-top that’s seen better days and stains that won’t shift.

All our work comes with a one-year guarantee, wherever you are in Isle of Wight.

When a repair is not the answer

Before you book, it’s worth knowing the limits too:

  • Anything hidden under an old coating, until we remove it
  • Plumbing leaks, which need a plumber
  • Steel that has corroded right through

If in doubt, send pictures and we’ll say what we think before booking.

Surfaces we repair

  • Cast iron baths
  • Basins & shower trays
  • Victorian roll-tops
  • Acrylic baths
  • Pressed steel baths

How the visit works

You do not need to empty the room beforehand. Everything we use comes in the van with us, put protection down and get going once we have agreed what we are doing. Most jobs take a full day, and you can get on with other things while we’re there.

  1. We mask and protect the room and ventilate it.
  2. We clean and degrease the bath and repair any chips or rust.
  3. The surface is prepared and a bonding primer applied.
  4. Several coats of new finish are sprayed on.
  5. Once cured, normally by the following day, the bath is ready.

Preparing for the visit

  • Move bottles, mats and clutter away from the area
  • Have a window or extractor fan available
  • Point us to the nearest place to park

How to get a price

There’s no need for us to visit first. Photos are enough for us to price nearly every job: we need a close-up, a wider picture and your postcode, and we will come back to you with a fixed figure.

Repairs by material

Cast iron

Cast iron baths are the classic candidate for re-enamelling. The body lasts for generations; only the enamel wears, so a new finish makes them look new again.

Roll-top and period baths

We can resurface a roll-top inside and out, with the outside refinished as well.

Should I try a DIY kit first?

We understand the appeal of fixing it yourself. The trouble is that kit repairs often look fine at first and then fail, and the old filler has to come out before a proper repair.

The difference between a kit and a professional repair is mostly in the preparation and colour. We prepare the area properly, mix the colour on site and polish the finish to match, then guarantee it for a year.

  • Doing more than one item at once
  • Access to the area
  • The material
  • The colour and finish to match

Instead of hourly rates, we price the entire job up front. It depends on the damage, the material and access, and combining items on one visit brings it down.

  • A coin beside the damage so we can judge size

Choosing a repair company

Why repair rather than replace?

There are times replacing is better: a cracked-through bath, a change of size or shape, or a full refit. In most other cases, resurfacing is the better choice. Our bath re-enamelling starts from £350. Compared with replacing, a repair is normally a fraction of the price, because nothing has to be taken out, refitted or made good. The quote lists exactly what you’re paying for.
