Bath re-enamelling in Hartford without replacing anything
Resurfacing renews the entire surface of the bath without taking anything out. It’s the answer when the entire bath is tired rather than one spot. We regularly repair Victorian roll-tops, acrylic baths and pressed steel baths, and people most frequently call us about an original cast iron bath that needs restoring and brown or grey marks that don’t clean off.
Your repair is guaranteed for a year, as with every job we do.

What happens on the day
Nothing needs to be moved out of the room. We bring everything we need with us, lay protective sheets and start once you are happy with the plan. It usually takes most of the day, and you can get on with other things while we are there.
- We mask and protect the room and ventilate it.
- We clean and degrease the bath and repair any chips or rust.
- We key the surface and put on a bonding primer.
- Several coats of new finish are sprayed on.
- We leave it to cure, and it’s typically ready the following day.

Can I fix it myself?
DIY kits are sold for most surfaces, and they can make a small mark look better. Where they fall down is colour and preparation: they come in a handful of shades, and if the surface is not prepared the repair will not last.
If you’re set on a kit, follow its instructions closely, ensure the area is clean and completely dry, and give it the full curing time. If it does not work out, we can still repair it properly.
Different materials, different repairs
Cast iron
Cast iron baths are so heavy that repairing in place makes obvious sense. Only the enamel surface wears or chips, and that’s the part we put right.
Acrylic
Acrylic feels warm and is light, but it relies on good support. Cracks are strengthened from behind before the front is finished.
Common problems we fix in Hartford
A dull surface stains and holds dirt, and scrubbing it wears it down further. That’s the point where re-enamelling makes sense.
Look out for any of the following:
- A coloured bath you want in white
- Enamel that’s lost its shine and feels rough
- A period or roll-top bath worth keeping
- A coating lifting around the plughole

What bath re-enamelling costs
Resurfacing from £350. Prices are worked out job by job, from your pictures. The main factors are:
- How hard the colour is to match
- The material
- Access to the area
- How many items we do on one visit
Compared with replacing, repairing usually costs far less, because there’s no removal, plumbing or making good. Your fixed quote shows exactly what’s included.
How to get a fixed quote
Two or three clear pictures are generally enough. It helps if you send:
- Good light, ideally daylight, without flash glare
- What it’s made of, if you know
- One picture of the entire bath
- Details of any past repairs
Email us photos of the damage and one of the entire item, with your CW8 postcode, and we’ll reply with a fixed quote.
Repair or replace: which is better?
A refit takes several trades and several days. Resurfacing is one technician, normally in a day, with the bath ready the day after. Resurfacing from £350, with every job priced individually. What it costs depends on the type and amount of damage, the material and how many jobs we combine into one visit. You get a fixed quote from your photos, so there are no surprises on the day.

Your questions about bath re-enamelling in Hartford
Do you resurface freestanding baths?
Yes. We can do the inside and outside.
Do you work for landlords and businesses?
Yes. We work for landlords, agents, builders and businesses as well as homeowners in Hartford.
Can I get a quote without a visit?
In nearly every case. We only ask to see it in person if the pictures can’t show what we need.
Can tenants book a repair?
Yes, but check with your landlord or agent first. Landlords are frequently glad to have it sorted.
Does the bath have to be removed?
No, it stays where it is. Everything is done in your bathroom, with the room protected and ventilated.
Does re-enamelling smell?
A little, during the work. We set up ventilation and the smell fades as it cures.
Someone resurfaced my bath and it’s peeling. Can you help?
Yes. Stripping the old coating adds time, so it’s reflected in the quote.
How quickly can you book me in?
Your quote comes with available dates. If it’s urgent, say so and we’ll do what we can.
Work for landlords and builders
We work for landlords, letting agents and housing providers in Hartford as well as homeowners. Repairing between tenancies keeps void periods short, and it normally costs far less than a refit.
We also carry out snagging repairs for builders and developers, putting right damage done during fitting. We hold CHAS, Constructionline and SafeContractor accreditations.
Looking after it afterwards
A little care keeps the finish looking good. Our advice:
- Stick to gentle, non-abrasive cleaners
- Do not use the bath until it has fully cured
- Keep suction mats out of the bath
- Wash away dyes and oils after use
Give the finish its full curing time before using the bath. After that, a soft cloth and washing-up liquid is all it needs.
Don’t try to scrub a worn bath back to shine. It removes more of the surface and makes resurfacing more work.
