Bath re-enamelling for Hoole homes

Bath re-enamelling in Hoole, done in place

We clean, repair and prime the bath before spraying the new finish. Most of the work, and most of the durability, is in the preparation, and we take our time over it. We work on pressed steel baths, Victorian roll-tops and basins & shower trays, and common reasons people get in touch are a bath that stays dull however much you clean it and lots of chips and rust spots.

Your repair is guaranteed for a year, as with every job we do.

What happens on the day

A typical visit goes like this: we arrive on time, sheet and mask the area around the job, carry out the work and tidy away. Allow most of the day from start to finish. Before leaving, we tell you when it can be used and what to avoid for the first few days.

  1. We sheet, mask and ventilate the room.
  2. Old sealant is cut out and the bath is deep cleaned.
  3. Chips, rust and pitting are repaired.
  4. The surface is keyed and primed for the new finish.
  5. The new finish is sprayed on in several coats and left to cure.

Before we arrive

  • Open a window if you can
  • Keep children and pets away from the room on the day
  • Tell us if there are stairs or a lift

How to get a price

Prices and what affects them

Prices start from £350. We don’t charge extra for travel to Hoole. The price comes down to:

  • Any earlier repairs that need removing first
  • Access to the area
  • The size and number of damaged areas
  • Whether it’s a chip, crack, burn or wear

Rather than charging by the hour, we fix the price before we start. Damage, material and access decide it, and doing several items at once reduces it.

Getting a price from pictures

Almost every job we do is priced from pictures. This is what we need:

  • The postcode, so we can plan the visit
  • Any details about the material
  • Natural light rather than flash
  • One sharp close-up of the damage

To get a price, send two or three pictures through our quote form or call us. We will say straight away whether it can be repaired.

Can I fix it myself?

A DIY attempt isn’t a disaster. We remove the old filler and start again, so it doesn’t stop a professional repair. Just mention it when you send pictures, as it can add time.

You can buy a DIY kit for most repairs, and they can tidy up a tiny mark. The trouble is colour and preparation: kits come in a few standard shades, and without proper cleaning and keying the filler frequently lifts.

Different materials, different repairs

Acrylic

Acrylic baths can be resurfaced too, using a system that bonds to acrylic. It must be solid and not flex underfoot for the finish to last.

Pressed steel

Under the enamel of a steel bath is thin metal. Exposed steel rusts quickly, so we treat and seal the metal before filling.

Repair or replace in Hoole?

If the bath is sound, re-enamelling is usually much cheaper than replacing it, once you add removal, plumbing, tiling and decorating to the price of a new bath. It’s much quicker too. Our bath re-enamelling starts from £350. What it costs depends on the type and amount of damage, what it’s made of and how many items we do on one visit. You get a fixed price from your pictures, so you know the cost before you book.

Hoole: your questions answered

Do you charge for travel?

Travel is included in the price, and we charge the same wherever you are.

Do you come to Hoole?

We do. We send a technician to Hoole for every job, and the price is the same as everywhere else.

How durable is a resurfaced bath?

It depends on preparation, use and care. Properly prepared and looked after, it lasts well, and it’s guaranteed for a year.

Can you repair several things at once?

Of course, and it usually saves money. Just add the extra items to your pictures and we’ll quote them together.

Does someone need to be in?

Yes. We need access to the room while we work, at a time that suits you.

Is a repair better than a new one?

In most cases, yes. Replacement brings removal, refitting and making good, which a repair avoids. We will be honest if it’s not worth it.

When can you do it?

It depends on the time of year and where you are. We will offer you dates when we send your quote.

Do you cover the whole of Cheshire West and Chester?

We cover the whole UK, including Hoole and the rest of Cheshire West and Chester. Just include your postcode and we’ll confirm dates.

Aftercare tips

Good habits make a big difference to how long a repair lasts:

  • Do not use the bath until it has fully cured
  • Have chips seen to early
  • Dry the bath after use to stop limescale
  • Keep toiletries on a shelf rather than in the bath

Wipe the bath dry after use where you can, and rinse off any bath products.

If a previous coating is starting to peel, don’t pick at it. Moisture gets underneath and makes it worse, so have it stripped and resurfaced.

Signs you need bath re-enamelling in Hoole

Sometimes it’s an earlier resurfacing that has failed, peeling around the waste or bubbling. Failing coatings are stripped back before we resurface.

Clients generally contact us about:

  • A peeling or bubbling previous coating
  • A period or roll-top bath worth keeping
  • Enamel that is lost its shine and feels rough
  • Thin, worn enamel in places

For landlords and businesses

We regularly price jobs from inventory or check-out photos. You can have a price before you arrange access, and we liaise with tenants about access if you’d like us to.

We work for landlords, letting agents and housing providers in Hoole as well as householders. Repairing between tenancies keeps void periods short, and it usually costs far less than a refit.
