Bath re-enamelling for Heyheads homes

Can I fix it myself?

It’s tempting to reach for a kit, but many of the jobs we do start with putting right a DIY repair. Doing it properly first is generally the cheaper route.

If you do try a kit, read the instructions carefully, and don’t use it until it has fully cured. If it fails, we can still put it right.

Bath re-enamelling in Heyheads, done in place

We resurface cast iron, steel and acrylic baths, including roll-tops and period baths. Several coats of finish go on over a bonding primer, once the bath has been cleaned, repaired and prepared. We are frequently asked to fix a period or roll-top bath worth keeping and a coating lifting around the plughole, in cast iron baths, basins & shower trays and acrylic baths.

We stand behind the work with a one-year guarantee.

Should you replace it?

When the bathroom is fine apart from the bath’s finish, resurfacing is the simplest answer. Tiles, panels and taps stay put. Our bath re-enamelling starts from £350. A repair usually costs much less than people expect, especially compared with replacing and refitting. Photos let us give you the exact figure.

Keeping it looking good

It’s all simple stuff, just a few sensible habits:

  • Store bottles off the bath
  • A quick wipe after use keeps limescale away
  • Do not leave a chip unrepaired
  • Leave the bath for the full curing time before using it

Avoid hair dye, bath bombs and oils sitting on the surface, as they can stain. Fix dripping taps quickly.

Do not try to scrub a worn bath back to shine. It just wears the enamel further and makes resurfacing more work.

The process

You don’t need to empty the room beforehand. We bring everything we need with us, put protection down and start once you’re happy with the plan. Most jobs take a full day, and you’re welcome to carry on with your day while we work.

  1. We sheet, mask and ventilate the room.
  2. Old sealant is cut out and the bath is deep cleaned.
  3. Chips, rust and pitting are repaired.
  4. The surface is keyed and primed for the new finish.
  5. The new finish is sprayed on in several coats and left to cure until the day after.

Getting ready for the visit

  • Keep children and pets away from the room on the day
  • Let us know if it has been repaired before
  • Clear the area around the damage

Advice

Materials and what they mean for the repair

Roll-top and period baths

We can resurface a roll-top inside and out, and the outside can be refinished too.

Cast iron

A cast iron bath is heavy enough that most people never want to move it. Only the enamel surface wears or chips, and that is the part we put right.

Prices and what affects them

Prices start from £350. There are no hourly rates or hidden extras. The price depends on:

  • What kind of damage it is
  • Where the damage is and how we get to it
  • How many areas need work
  • What the surface is made of

There are no surprise extras on the day. The price we quote from your photos is the price you pay, unless the damage turns out to be different, in which case we talk to you first.

Send pictures for a quote

The better the pictures, the more accurate the price. Here’s what we find most useful:

  • The material, if you know it
  • Your postcode, so we can check dates
  • A photo taken from further back
  • A coin beside the damage so we can judge size

Most clients in Heyheads get their price from pictures. Add a line about what happened and your postcode, and we will send back a fixed quote and some dates.

Landlords, agents and businesses in Heyheads

Builders, developers and site managers book us for snagging repairs, putting right damage done during fitting. We hold CHAS, Constructionline and SafeContractor accreditations.

Rental properties take more wear, and replacing things at every changeover adds up. A repair between tenancies is a cheaper way to keep the property in good order.

When a repair is not the answer

A repair isn’t right for every job, for example:

  • A bath split right through the body
  • Holes rusted through the metal
  • Damage hidden under a previous coating, until it’s stripped back

Not sure? Send photos and we’ll give you a straight answer.

What we work on

  • Cast iron baths
  • Acrylic baths
  • Basins & shower trays
  • Pressed steel baths
  • Victorian roll-tops

FAQs for Heyheads

Are there extra charges for Heyheads?

Travel is included in the price, with the same prices everywhere we work.

Can you quote from photos?

Yes, almost always. A close-up and a wider photo are enough to give a fixed quote.

Will the new finish last?

That depends on preparation and how the bath is treated. Properly prepared and looked after, it lasts well, and our work is guaranteed for a year.

What do you need from me?

A close-up, a wider photo and your postcode. Then we will agree a date.

Will the price change on the day?

Your quote covers the damage in the photos. If there’s more, we will tell you before starting.

Can you do more than one item on the same visit?

Yes, and it’s frequently cheaper. Just add the extra items to your pictures and we will quote them together.

Can you make a coloured bath white?

Yes. We can resurface a coloured bath in white, and the basin and toilet can be done too.

Is it worth repairing rather than replacing?

Generally, if the item is otherwise sound. A repair avoids removal and making good. If replacing would be better, we will say so.
