What we can’t put right

Not everything can be repaired, and we’d rather say so up front. We cannot fix:

  • A bath that is rusted through
  • Anything hidden under an old coating, until we remove it
  • Leaks from fittings rather than the bath

If in doubt, send photos and we will say what we think before booking.

Surfaces we repair

  • Pressed steel baths
  • Basins & shower trays
  • Cast iron baths
  • Acrylic baths
  • Victorian roll-tops

About our bath re-enamelling in Holy Vale

We don’t move the bath, so the taps, tiles and plumbing aren’t touched. Most baths are done in one visit, with the bath ready to use the following day. We regularly repair pressed steel baths, basins & shower trays and Victorian roll-tops, and people most frequently call us about an original cast iron bath that needs restoring and a bath in a colour that no longer suits.

The work is guaranteed for twelve months. If something isn’t right in that time, we come back and put it right.

Aftercare tips

Looking after the surface is easy:

  • Repair dripping taps early
  • Have chips seen to early
  • Don’t use the bath until it has fully cured
  • A quick wipe after use keeps limescale away

Wipe the bath dry after use where you can, especially in hard water areas, and rinse away any product left on the surface.

Leave a peeling coating alone. Moisture gets underneath and makes it worse, so have it stripped and resurfaced.

When to call us in Holy Vale

Many baths we resurface have simply been well used. Underneath, a cast iron or steel bath is usually as strong as ever.

It’s worth getting a quote if you see:

  • Staining under the taps and around the waste
  • An old resurfacing that is failing
  • A dull, rough surface that will not come clean
  • Thin, worn enamel in places

What your quote should include

  • How long the guarantee is and what it covers
  • If travel is included in the price
  • Whether the colour is mixed to match
  • What happens if the damage is worse than the photos show

Our hiring checklist

Materials and what they mean for the repair

Pressed steel

Pressed steel baths take a new finish well, once any rust has been treated. Steel frequently rusts by the plughole, so we check it carefully.

Cast iron

Re-enamelling suits cast iron baths perfectly. The body lasts for generations; only the enamel wears, so resurfacing gives them a new life.

Should you replace it?

If you like your bathroom but not your bath’s surface, re-enamelling is the least disruptive fix. Tiles, panels and taps stay put. Our bath re-enamelling starts from £350. The price depends on how much damage there is and what kind, the material and how many items we do on one visit. You get a fixed price from your photos, so you know the cost before you book.

Why book with us

  • Every repair guaranteed for a year
  • Rooms protected and left tidy
  • Same prices wherever you are
  • CHAS, Constructionline and SafeContractor accredited

Read our prices page or guide to resurfacing and replacement costs.

The process

The work is clean and fairly quiet, so you can stay at home while we’re there. We protect the area first, then the job itself takes a full day. Before we leave, we explain how soon it can be used and how to care for it.

  1. First we look the bath over and confirm the finish.
  2. Taps, tiles and the floor are masked off.
  3. We degrease the bath, fix any damage and key the surface.
  4. Primer and finish coats are applied.
  5. The masking comes off, we tidy up and tell you when it can be used.

How to prepare

  • Let us know about parking or access
  • Move bottles, mats and clutter away from the area
  • Make sure the room can be ventilated

How to get a price

Getting a price is easy: take a close-up of the damage and a photo from further back, send them over with your postcode, and you will get a fixed quote back. Quotes are free and you’re under no obligation.

Advice

Should I try a DIY kit first?

It’s natural to want to try a repair yourself. The trouble is that kit repairs often look fine at first and then fail, and then the old filler has to be removed first.

If you are set on a kit, follow its instructions closely and work on a clean, dry surface, and give it the full curing time. If it fails, we can still put it right.

What bath re-enamelling costs

Prices start from £350. Every quote is fixed and free. What we look at:

  • How many items we do on one visit
  • How many areas need work
  • Unusual colours or finishes
  • The material

It helps to know what pushes a price up or down: access, material, the extent of the damage and whether we can do several items together. Photos let us give you a fixed figure.

Getting a price from photos

We price nearly every job from photos. This is what to send:

  • The material, if you know it
  • One picture of the entire bath
  • A clear, close picture of the problem area
  • A coin or ruler next to the damage for scale

If you are in Holy Vale and want a price, photos are the quickest way: one close up, one from further back, plus your postcode. We reply with a fixed quote and our next available dates.
