When we’d advise against a repair

Not everything can be repaired, and we would rather say so up front. Repairs won’t solve:

  • Holes rusted through the metal
  • A bath split right through the body
  • Damage hidden under a previous coating, until it’s stripped back

Not sure? Send photos and we’ll give you a straight answer.

What we work on

  • Victorian roll-tops
  • Cast iron baths
  • Acrylic baths
  • Basins & shower trays
  • Pressed steel baths

Bath re-enamelling in Huntly, done in place

Cast iron, steel, acrylic, roll-top and period baths can all be resurfaced. Several coats of finish go on over a bonding primer, after the bath has been cleaned, repaired and keyed. Common call-outs are for an old resurfacing that’s failing and a period or roll-top bath worth keeping, across acrylic baths, cast iron baths and Victorian roll-tops.

You’re covered for a year from the day of the repair. Just call us if there’s a problem and we will come back.

How to look after the repair

After the repair has cured, a few habits help it last:

  • Keep suction mats out of the bath
  • Clean with a soft cloth and mild detergent
  • Rinse off hair dye, oils and bath bombs straight away
  • Repair dripping taps early

Use mild, non-abrasive cleaners, avoid suction bath mats, and do not leave bottles or razors standing on the surface.

Leave a peeling coating alone. Moisture gets underneath and makes it worse, so have it stripped and resurfaced.

Should you replace it?

If the bath is sound, re-enamelling is usually much cheaper than replacing it, once you add removal, plumbing, tiling and decorating to the price of a new bath. It’s much quicker too. Resurfacing from £350, with every job priced individually. Set against the cost of replacement, repairing normally costs far less, because there’s no removal, plumbing or making good. The quote lists exactly what you are paying for.

Do you need bath re-enamelling in Huntly?

Sometimes it’s an earlier resurfacing that has failed, lifting by the plughole or blistering. Failing coatings are stripped back before we resurface.

Keep an eye out for these signs:

  • Wear marks under the taps
  • An old resurfacing that’s failing
  • A roll-top that’s seen better days
  • A bath in a colour that no longer suits

What to look for in a quote

  • What happens if they find more damage
  • Whether they match the colour on site
  • What the guarantee covers, and for how long
  • A fixed price, and whether VAT is included

FAQs for Huntly

What if the damage is worse than the pictures show?

It’s rare, but if it happens we talk to you first. The price only changes if you agree.

How durable is a resurfaced bath?

Care for it and it lasts. Avoid abrasive cleaners and suction mats.

Does re-enamelling smell?

A little, during the work. Ventilation keeps it down, and it fades as the finish cures.

Can you resurface a pink bath in white?

Yes, white is the usual choice. Mention the colour you want when you send pictures.

What happens after I send photos?

You get a fixed quote and available dates. If anything’s unclear, we will ask for another photo.

Is there a call-out fee?

No. Our quotes include travel, and we charge the same wherever you are.

How long is the bath unusable?

Normally one day, with the bath ready the next day. A badly pitted bath can need a second day.

Does the bath have to be removed?

No, it stays where it is. We work on the bath in place, with the room protected and ventilated.

DIY repairs versus a professional job

A DIY attempt is not a disaster. We remove the old filler and start again, so it doesn’t stop a professional repair. Just mention it when you send pictures, as it can add time.

DIY kits are sold for most surfaces, and they can tidy up a tiny mark. The trouble is colour and preparation: they come in a handful of shades, and if the surface is not prepared the repair will not last.

How the visit works

Nothing needs to be moved out of the room beforehand. We bring everything we need with us, lay protective sheets and get going once we have agreed what we’re doing. Most jobs take the best part of a day, and you can get on with other things while we are there.

  1. The bathroom is protected and ventilation set up.
  2. Old sealant is cut out and the bath is deep cleaned.
  3. Chips, rust and pitting are repaired.
  4. We key the bath and apply a bonding primer.
  5. The new finish is sprayed on in several coats and left to cure until the following day.

Getting ready for the visit

  • Ensure the room can be ventilated
  • Mention if the room is upstairs or in a flat
  • Mention any parking restrictions or tricky access

Advice

Different materials, different repairs

Pressed steel

Pressed steel baths take a new finish well, as long as any rust is dealt with first. Rust around the waste is common on steel, so we pay close attention there.

Acrylic

Acrylic feels warm and is light, but it relies on good support. Repairs to cracks are reinforced from the back.

For landlords and businesses

Hotels, guest houses and holiday lets can’t afford rooms out of action for long, so we keep visits short and tidy. We’ll fit around changeovers where we can.

We also carry out snagging repairs for builders and developers, fixing chips and scratches before handover so nothing needs replacing. We’re CHAS, Constructionline and SafeContractor accredited.
