What we are called out for in Hutton
Hard water speeds up the wear, and gritty cleaners are the worst culprits.
Send us a photo if you notice any of these:
- Brown or grey marks that don’t clean off
- A peeling or bubbling previous coating
- An original cast iron bath that needs restoring
- An outdated colour you’d like to change
Before booking anyone
- How the colour is matched

How we handle bath re-enamelling in Hutton
A re-enamelled bath looks and feels like a new one, but without the cost and upheaval of a refit. It’s ideal if you like your bathroom but not the state of the bath. We work on cast iron baths, basins & shower trays and acrylic baths, and common reasons people contact us are several chips and rust patches and an old resurfacing that’s failing.
Every repair comes with a one-year guarantee, wherever you are in Northumberland.

Repair or replace: which is better?
Replacing a bath can take several days across several trades. Re-enamelling is one technician, normally one day, and the bath is usable the day after. Resurfacing from £350, with every job priced individually. A few things move the price: access, material, the extent of the damage and whether we can do several items together. Send pictures and you’ll get a fixed figure.

DIY repairs versus a professional job
DIY kits are sold for most surfaces, and they can tidy up a tiny mark. Where they fall down is colour and preparation: they come in a handful of shades, and if the surface isn’t prepared the repair will not last.
It’s tempting to reach for a kit, but many of the jobs we do start with putting right a DIY repair. Getting it right first time is normally cheaper.
What happens on the day
Visits start with a quick look at the job together, so there are no surprises. Then the area is sheeted and masked and we start. Allow the best part of a day.
- We sheet, mask and ventilate the room.
- We remove the old silicone and deep clean the bath.
- Chips, rust and pitting are repaired.
- The surface is keyed and primed for the new finish.
- Several coats of finish are sprayed on, then it cures until the next day.
Preparing for the visit
- Have somewhere for us to park nearby if possible
- Let us know if it has been repaired before
- Ensure the area is dry

Advice
FAQs for Hutton
It’s been repaired before. Can you still fix it?
Normally, yes. The old repair comes out first, so let us know about it.
Can you fix a peeling bath coating?
In most cases. We strip the failing coating and resurface it properly. Tell us about it when you ask for a quote.
Can I add another job to the visit?
Yes, and it’s often cheaper. Send pictures of everything together and we will quote them together.
Can tenants book a repair?
Yes. Check with your landlord; we can send the quote to them too.
Do the materials smell?
A little, depending on the job. Ventilation keeps it to a minimum, and it soon fades.
What happens next?
We come back with a fixed price, usually with dates to choose from. There’s no obligation to book.
Will it make a mess?
Dust sheets and masking go down before we start, and we clean up when we have finished.
How long does re-enamelling take?
Typically a day, then it’s ready to use the following day. Deeply pitted baths may need a second day.
Different materials, different repairs
Acrylic
Acrylic is light and warm to the touch, but it needs firm support underneath. Cracks are strengthened from behind before the front is finished.
Cast iron
Cast iron baths are so heavy that repairing in place makes obvious sense. The enamel is the part that wears or chips, and that’s what we repair.
Looking after it afterwards
A little care keeps the finish looking good. We recommend:
- Stick to gentle, non-abrasive cleaners
- Dry the bath after use to stop limescale
- Do not leave a chip unrepaired
- Keep suction mats out of the bath
Avoid hair dye, bath bombs and oils sitting on the surface, because they can mark the finish. Repair dripping taps promptly.
Don’t try to scrub a worn bath back to shine. It just wears the enamel further and makes resurfacing more work.
