Bath re-enamelling for Itchen homes

What happens on the day

We turn up at the time we agreed with you, introduces themselves and checks the damage against your photos first. The floor and nearby surfaces are covered before we open a single tin. The work itself takes most of the day, and the room is left clean and tidy.

  1. First we look the bath over and confirm the finish.
  2. Taps, tiles and the floor are masked off.
  3. We degrease the bath, fix any damage and key the surface.
  4. Primer and finish coats are applied.
  5. We remove the masking, tidy up and give you the curing time.

Preparing for the visit

  • Let us know which floor the room is on
  • Have somewhere for us to park nearby if possible
  • Keep pets and children out of the room while we work

Advice

About our bath re-enamelling in Itchen

Re-enamelling is a one-day job for most baths, and you can use the bath the following day. Nothing is disconnected or removed. Typical jobs include an old resurfacing that’s failing and stains that won’t shift, in cast iron baths, acrylic baths and pressed steel baths.

Big or small, it’s backed by a one-year guarantee.

FAQs for Itchen

Is a repair better than a new one?

Normally, if the item is otherwise sound. A repair avoids removal and making good. We’ll tell you honestly if replacement makes more sense.

How soon can you come?

We’ll give you dates with your quote. If it’s urgent, say so and we will do what we can.

Do you do work for letting agents?

Yes. We work for landlords, agents, builders and businesses as well as homeowners in Itchen.

It’s been repaired before. Can you still fix it?

Typically, yes. We remove the old repair before doing a new one, so mention it when you send pictures.

What happens once I’ve sent photos?

We review the pictures and send a fixed quote.

Do I need to be at home?

We need someone to let us in. You don’t need to watch us work.

How long does re-enamelling take?

Usually a day, then it’s ready to use the following day. A badly pitted bath can need a second day.

Is there any odour?

Expect a mild smell while we’re working.

Honest limits

Honesty matters more than a booking, so here’s what a repair won’t do:

  • A bath that’s rusted through
  • Damage hidden under a previous coating, until it’s stripped back
  • Leaks from fittings rather than the bath

Send us pictures and we’ll tell you honestly before booking.

Materials we repair

  • Pressed steel baths
  • Victorian roll-tops
  • Basins & shower trays
  • Cast iron baths
  • Acrylic baths

For landlords and businesses

Hotels, guest houses and holiday lets can’t afford rooms out of action for long, so we keep visits short and tidy. We can work around your bookings.

Builders, developers and site managers book us for snagging repairs, putting right damage done during fitting. We are CHAS, Constructionline and SafeContractor accredited.

DIY repairs versus a professional job

You can buy a DIY kit for most repairs, and they can make a small mark look better. The trouble is colour and preparation: they come in a handful of shades, and if the surface is not prepared the repair will not last.

We understand the appeal of fixing it yourself. The risk is that a kit repair hides the damage for a while, then fails, and then the old filler has to be removed first.

How to look after the repair

To keep it looking its best:

  • Wash away dyes and oils after use
  • Repair dripping taps early
  • Respect the curing time we give you
  • Clean with a soft cloth and mild detergent

Rinse the bath and wipe it over after use, especially in hard water areas, so limescale can’t build up.

Avoid scrubbing a dull bath with abrasive cleaners. It removes more of the surface.

What your bath is made of matters

Cast iron

Cast iron baths are the classic candidate for re-enamelling. The body lasts for generations; only the enamel wears, so resurfacing gives them a new life.

Roll-top and period baths

We can resurface a roll-top inside and out, with the outside refinished as well.

Repair or replace in Itchen?

If the bath is sound, re-enamelling is normally much cheaper than replacing it, when you count removal, plumbing, tiling and decorating. It’s also far quicker. Resurfacing from £350, with every job priced individually. A few things move the price: access, material, the extent of the damage and whether we can do several items together. Send photos and you will get a fixed figure.
