How we handle bath re-enamelling in Kelfield

Many of the baths we re-enamel are period roll-tops, which would be difficult and expensive to replace. Doing them in place keeps an original feature. If you are dealing with a period or roll-top bath worth keeping and a bath that stays dull however much you clean it, we can help, on acrylic baths, pressed steel baths and Victorian roll-tops alike.

Big or small, it’s backed by a one-year guarantee in Kelfield and across York.

Before and after: an old basin refinished to bright white

Looking after it afterwards

It’s all simple stuff:

  • Rinse off hair dye, oils and bath bombs right away
  • Get any chip repaired quickly
  • Fix dripping taps quickly
  • Leave the bath for the full curing time before using it

A quick rinse and wipe after use helps, particularly where water is hard, to stop limescale building up.

Worn enamel only gets rougher with time, and any rust spreads underneath. Resurfacing sooner means less repair work first.

What a repair cannot fix

Before you book, it’s worth knowing the limits too:

  • A cast iron or steel bath that is cracked right through
  • An acrylic bath that flexes badly underfoot
  • Leaking taps or wastes (a plumber’s job)

Send us photos and we’ll tell you honestly.

Repairing versus replacing in Kelfield

A new bath means a plumber, removing a heavy bath, making good the walls and tiles and days without a bathroom. Resurfacing gives the bath a new finish without moving it. Prices start from £350. Our prices are the same across the UK, so there is no premium for Kelfield. What changes the price is the job itself: how much damage, what it’s made of and how many items.

What you get with us

  • Dust sheets down, tidy finish
  • Colour mixed on the day to match
  • Same prices wherever you are
  • Nothing taken out or refitted

Kelfield: your questions answered

What if the damage is worse than the pictures show?

If we find something the pictures didn’t show, we explain it first. The price only changes if you agree.

Is a repair better than a new one?

Typically, when the rest is in good condition. Repairing avoids the cost and disruption of replacing. We will tell you honestly if replacement makes more sense.

How long does re-enamelling last?

Care for it and it lasts. Gentle cleaning, no suction mats.

Can you change the colour of my bath?

Yes, white is the usual choice. Tell us what you’d like when you ask for a quote.

Can you do the outside of a roll-top?

Yes, roll-tops are a big part of our work. We resurface the inside, and the outside can be refinished too.

Which areas do you work in?

All of York, and the rest of the UK. Travel is included in the price.

Can you redo someone else’s repair?

Most of the time. Tell us what was done before and we’ll plan for it.

Do you need to take the bath out?

No. We resurface it in place, so the tiles and taps stay put.

What your bath is made of matters

Cast iron

Cast iron baths are so heavy that repairing in place makes obvious sense. The enamel is the part that wears or chips, and that’s what we repair.

Acrylic

Acrylic feels warm and is light, but it needs firm support underneath. Repairs to cracks are reinforced from the back.

What we do, step by step

Here’s how a visit generally runs: we arrive at the agreed slot, sheet and mask the area around the job, do the job and clear up. Plan for a full day. Before we go, we’ll explain when it can be used and how to care for it.

  1. First we look the bath over and confirm the finish.
  2. Taps, tiles and the floor are masked off.
  3. The bath is degreased, repaired and keyed.
  4. Primer and finish coats are applied.
  5. The masking comes off, we tidy up and tell you when it can be used.

How to prepare

  • Make sure the area is dry
  • Tell us if there are stairs or a lift
  • Make sure the room can be ventilated

DIY repairs versus a professional job

Kits are cheap and easy to find, but many of the jobs we do start with putting right a DIY repair. Getting it right first time is typically cheaper.

If you’ve already tried a DIY fix, that is fine. We take the old repair out and do it properly, so it won’t stop us repairing it. It does add a little time, so tell us about it when you send pictures.

Work for landlords and builders

We’re used to working with agents and managing companies. Just send photos, the address and how to get access and we’ll handle the rest.

We also carry out snagging repairs for builders and developers, putting right damage done during fitting. We hold CHAS, Constructionline and SafeContractor accreditations.

What bath re-enamelling costs

Resurfacing from £350. We charge the same across the UK, including Kelfield. The price reflects:

  • Previous DIY repairs that have to come out
  • Doing more than one item at once
  • What the surface is made of
  • The type of damage

We don’t add extras on the day. What we quote from your photos is what you pay, unless the damage turns out to be different, in which case we talk to you first.

How to get a fixed price

Most quotes are done from photos alone. To help us price it:

  • Any details about the material
  • The postcode, so we can plan the visit
  • A picture taken from further back
  • Something in shot to show the size

Ring 0345 017 0787, or send us pictures through the quote form. With one close-up and one wider picture, we can price the job the same day in most cases.
