Bath re-enamelling in Kerridge

Bath re-enamelling in Kerridge, done in place

The bath stays where it is, so the taps, tiles and plumbing aren’t touched. It normally takes one visit, and can be used again the next day. Whether it’s worn patches where water runs and sits and a bath in a colour that no longer suits, we can usually put it right.

Whatever the size of the job, you get the same one-year guarantee.

How it works

Once we are through the door, the aim is to do the job without disturbing the rest of your home. We mask off everything nearby, the work takes most of the day, and we finish by cleaning up and talking you through the result.

  1. First we protect the bathroom and set up ventilation.
  2. The bath is cleaned, degreased and any chips or rust repaired.
  3. We key the surface and put on a bonding primer.
  4. Several coats of new finish are sprayed on.
  5. Once cured, normally by the day after, the bath is ready.

How to prepare

  • Mention if the room is upstairs or in a flat
  • Tell us about parking, stairs or access
  • Mention any earlier repairs or resurfacing

How to care for the repair

How the surface is treated afterwards matters:

  • Respect the curing time we give you
  • Stick to gentle, non-abrasive cleaners
  • Keep toiletries on a shelf rather than in the bath
  • Have chips seen to early

Treat the new finish gently at first: give it the full curing time, then clean it gently. After that, no abrasives and no suction mats.

The longer worn enamel is left, the rougher it gets, and any rust spreads underneath. Resurfacing sooner means less repair work first.

Repairs by material

Pressed steel

Steel baths and trays have a thin metal body under the enamel. Exposed steel rusts quickly, so the metal is treated and sealed before the repair.

Cast iron

Re-enamelling suits cast iron baths perfectly. The body lasts for generations; only the enamel wears, so resurfacing gives them a new life.

What we are called out for in Kerridge

Many baths we resurface have simply been well used, with nothing wrong except the surface. The body of the bath is typically perfectly sound.

The most common problems we are called about are:

  • A bath in a colour that no longer suits
  • A period or roll-top bath worth keeping
  • Staining under the taps and around the waste
  • Worn patches where water runs and sits

  • Whether cleaning and preparation are in the price
  • Whether they match the colour on site

How to compare quotes

Questions from Kerridge

How durable is a resurfaced bath?

A well-prepared finish lasts a long time if it’s looked after. Gentle cleaning, no suction mats.

Is it messy?

Dust sheets and masking go down before we start, and we clean up when we have finished.

Will there be a smell?

It depends on the job, but frequently a little. Open windows and an extractor fan help.

Can a failed resurfacing be redone?

In most cases. The old coating comes off before we resurface it. Tell us about it when you ask for a quote.

What happens if you find more damage?

If we find something the pictures didn’t show, we explain it first. You decide whether to go ahead.

I rent my home. Can I book you?

Yes, but check with your landlord or agent first. Many landlords are happy for a repair to be arranged before the end of a tenancy.

Will the bath be moved?

No. We resurface it in place, so nothing else is disturbed.

Can you do more than one item on the same visit?

Yes, and it’s often cheaper. Send pictures of everything together and we will quote them together.

Landlord and trade work in Kerridge

Builders, developers and site managers book us for snagging repairs, putting right damage done during fitting so nothing needs replacing. We’re CHAS, Constructionline and SafeContractor accredited.

Landlords, letting agents and housing providers in Kerridge use us as well as homeowners. A repair between tenants keeps the property empty for less time, and it costs much less than replacing.

Can I fix it myself?

If you’re set on a kit, follow its instructions closely, and give it the full curing time. If it does not work out, we can still repair it properly.

What a professional repair adds is preparation, colour matching and finishing. We clean and key the area properly, mix the colour to your surface and finish it to the same sheen, then guarantee it for a year.

What affects the price in Kerridge

Resurfacing from £350. Each job gets its own fixed price. This is what makes a difference:

  • Access to the area
  • Whether old repairs or coatings need taking off
  • Doing more than one item at once
  • The size and number of damaged areas

Instead of hourly rates, we price the whole job up front. It depends on the damage, the material and access, and combining items on one visit brings it down.

Getting a price from pictures

We price nearly every job from pictures. This is what we need:

  • Details of any past repairs
  • A clear, close picture of the problem area
  • Something in shot to show the size
  • A photo taken from further back

If you are in Kerridge and want a price, photos are the quickest way: one close up, one from further back, plus your postcode. You will get a fixed quote with dates to choose from.

Should you replace it?

A replacement frequently means several trades over several days. Resurfacing takes one technician and normally a day, with the bath back in use the following day. Resurfacing from £350, with every job priced individually. A repair is priced on what needs doing, not where you live. You’ll see the full price before you book, with nothing added on the day.
