How we handle bath re-enamelling in Kingsweston

Most baths are re-enamelled in a day. Nothing is disconnected or removed. If you are dealing with wear marks under the taps and brown or grey marks that don’t clean off, we can typically put it right, whatever the material.

You are covered for a year from the day of the repair. Just call us if there is a problem and we will come back.

Repairs by material

Pressed steel

Steel baths and trays have a thin metal body under the enamel. Once a chip exposes it, rust follows quickly, so we treat and seal the metal before filling.

Cast iron

Cast iron baths are the classic candidate for re-enamelling. The body lasts for generations; only the enamel wears, so a new finish makes them look new again.

Your questions about bath re-enamelling in Kingsweston

Does re-enamelling smell?

Yes, while we’re applying the finish. Ventilation keeps it down, and it fades as the finish cures.

Can landlords book you?

We do, regularly. We quote for multiple addresses and fit around tenancy changeovers.

Do I have to be there?

Yes. The technician needs access to the room for the visit, at a time we agree with you.

Do you hold any accreditations?

Yes, including CHAS, Constructionline and SafeContractor. The full list is on our accreditations page.

Is there any odour?

Some materials have a smell while they’re applied. It fades as everything cures.

Will it make a mess?

Very little mess: we sheet and mask everything nearby, and we take our waste away with us.

Is it worth repairing rather than replacing?

In most cases, yes. Replacement brings removal, refitting and making good, which a repair avoids. If it isn’t worth repairing, we’ll tell you.

Does the bath have to be removed?

No. It’s re-enamelled where it stands, so nothing else is disturbed.

What we cannot put right

Some jobs are not right for a repair, including:

  • Damage hidden under a previous coating, until it’s stripped back
  • Leaks from fittings rather than the bath
  • A bath that’s rusted through

Send us photos and we’ll tell you honestly before you book.

Surfaces we repair

  • Victorian roll-tops
  • Acrylic baths
  • Cast iron baths
  • Pressed steel baths
  • Basins & shower trays

How it works

The work is clean and fairly quiet, so you can stay at home while we’re there. We protect the area first, then the job itself takes most of the day. At the end we talk you through the curing time and the aftercare.

  1. First we look the bath over and confirm the finish.
  2. Everything around the bath is masked and covered.
  3. We degrease the bath, fix any damage and key the surface.
  4. Primer and finish coats are applied.
  5. We remove the masking, tidy up and give you the curing time.

Getting ready for the visit

  • Avoid using the area for a few hours before we arrive
  • Tell us about any previous repairs or coatings
  • Make sure the room can be ventilated

Ask for a price

A quote takes minutes to ask for: take one close-up and one wider shot of the bath, add your postcode and send them over. What comes back is a fixed quote, not a guess.

Advice

What we are called out for in Kingsweston

A dull surface stains and holds dirt, and scrubbing it wears it down further. At that stage, resurfacing is the fix.

Common reasons people in Kingsweston contact us include:

  • A dull, rough surface that won’t come clean
  • Chips and rust in more than one place
  • Staining under the taps and around the waste
  • A bath in a colour that no longer suits

What to look for in a quote

  • When it can be used again
  • A fixed quote, and whether VAT is included
  • Whether cleaning and preparation are in the price
  • How to look after the finish

Our hiring checklist

Should I try a DIY kit first?

If you’re set on a kit, follow its instructions closely, make sure the area is clean and completely dry, and give it the full curing time. If it doesn’t work out, we can still repair it properly.

For a hairline mark somewhere you will never see, a kit may be enough. For damage in plain view, cracks, holes or rust, or coloured finishes, a professional repair is worth it.

Why repair rather than replace?

A replacement frequently means several trades over several days. Re-enamelling is one technician, typically one day, and the bath is usable the day after. Prices start from £350. Every job is a little different, so each one is priced on its own. What’s damaged, how badly and how easy it is to reach all play a part, and doing several things on one visit costs less than separate visits.

What you get with us

  • We’ll tell you if it’s not worth repairing
  • Normally one visit, start to finish
  • CHAS, Constructionline and SafeContractor accredited
  • One-year guarantee on every repair

See our full price list and guide to resurfacing and replacement costs.

Looking after it afterwards

Much of the damage we repair could have been avoided. A few tips:

  • Dry the bath after use to stop limescale
  • Have chips seen to early
  • Avoid suction-cup mats
  • Fix dripping taps quickly

Rinse the bath and wipe it over after use, especially in hard water areas, so limescale cannot build up.

If a previous coating is starting to peel, don’t pick at it. Moisture gets underneath and makes it worse, so have it stripped and resurfaced.

Prices and what affects them

Resurfacing from £350. There is no area surcharge for Kingsweston. What changes the price is:

  • Whether we combine several jobs
  • Previous DIY repairs that have to come out
  • How much damage there is
  • Access to the area

Rather than charging by the hour, we price the entire job up front. Damage, material and access decide it, and combining items on one visit brings it down.

Quotes from your pictures

You can typically get a fixed quote without us visiting. To make it quick:

  • Details of any past repairs
  • Something in shot to show the size
  • The postcode, so we can plan the visit
  • A close-up of the damage, in focus

You do not need a survey visit. Nearly every job can be priced from pictures: send a close-up, a wider shot and your postcode, and we will come back to you with a fixed figure.
