Bath re-enamelling at your home in Kirkwall
After re-enamelling, the bath has a smooth, glossy, new-looking surface, without any of the disruption of replacing it. It’s ideal if you like your bathroom but not the state of the bath. We regularly repair Victorian roll-tops, acrylic baths and pressed steel baths, and common reasons people get in touch are several chips and rust patches and worn patches where water runs and sits.
You get a one-year guarantee, the same in Kirkwall as everywhere else we work.

Prices and what affects them
Prices start from £350. We charge the same across the UK, including Kirkwall. The price reflects:
- Whether old repairs or coatings need taking off
- How easy the damage is to reach
- What the surface is made of
- Whether we combine several jobs
Most people are surprised how affordable a repair is, particularly next to the cost of replacement. Photos let us give you the exact figure.
Quotes from your pictures
It only takes a minute to photograph the damage, and it saves a visit. Try to send:
- The postcode, so we can plan the visit
- Details of any past repairs
- One sharp close-up of the damage
- A picture taken from further back
The quickest way to a price is to send two or three photos using our quote form or ring us. We will say straight away whether it can be repaired.
DIY repairs versus a professional job
If you do try a kit, read the instructions carefully, and do not use it until it has fully cured. If it does not work out, we can still repair it properly.
If you’ve already tried a DIY fix, that is fine. We take the old repair out and do it properly, so it won’t stop us repairing it. It does add a little time, so tell us about it when you send pictures.
What we cannot put right
We won’t take on work that will not last, so these are the limits:
- Leaking taps or wastes (a plumber’s job)
- Damage hidden under a previous coating, until it’s stripped back
- Acrylic that moves when you stand in it
Not sure? Send photos and we will give you a straight answer before you book.

Why repair rather than replace?
When the bathroom is fine apart from the bath’s finish, resurfacing is the simplest answer. Nothing else is disturbed. Resurfacing from £350, with every job priced individually. A few things move the price: the amount of damage, the material, access to the area, and how many jobs we do in one trip. Photos let us give you a fixed figure.

Looking after it afterwards
A little care keeps the finish looking good. We recommend:
- A quick wipe after use keeps limescale away
- Store bottles off the bath
- Don’t use the bath until it has fully cured
- Clean with a soft cloth and mild detergent
The first few days matter most: give it the full curing time, then clean it gently. From then on, avoid abrasives and suction mats.
Leave a peeling coating alone. Moisture gets underneath and makes it worse, so have it stripped and resurfaced.
What happens on the day
Visits start with a quick look at the job together, so you know exactly what we are doing. After that, protection goes down around the work area and we start. Allow most of the day, and we’ll keep you posted as we go.
- First we look the bath over and confirm the finish.
- Everything around the bath is masked and covered.
- We degrease the bath, fix any damage and key the surface.
- Primer and finish coats are applied.
- We remove the masking, tidy up and give you the curing time.

- Make sure the room can be ventilated

Advice
Different materials, different repairs
Pressed steel
Pressed steel baths take a new finish well, as long as any rust is dealt with first. Steel often rusts by the plughole, so we check it carefully.
Cast iron
Re-enamelling suits cast iron baths perfectly. The body lasts for generations; only the enamel wears, so a new finish makes them look new again.
