How we handle non-slip bath coating in Kirkwall

It’s popular with older people, families and holiday lets. It’s a clear, textured coating, so the bath looks much the same. If you’re dealing with safety for older or less mobile people and worn-out textured areas, we can normally put it right, on resurfaced baths, shower trays and acrylic baths alike.

We guarantee the work for a year. If something isn’t right in that time, we come back and put it right. Clean with a soft brush and a mild cleaner. Avoid scourers on the coating.

DIY repairs versus a professional job

Kits are cheap and easy to find, but the repairs we redo most frequently are DIY ones that have discoloured or lifted. Getting it right first time is normally cheaper.

It’s natural to want to try a repair yourself. The trouble is that kit repairs often look fine at first and then fail, and the old filler has to come out before a proper repair.

Why repair rather than replace?

Instead, you could go for a new textured bath or tray, or a bath mat, which traps water and needs cleaning. A non-slip coating treats your existing bath or tray. What it costs depends on how much damage there is and what kind, what it’s made of and how many jobs we combine into one visit. We give a fixed quote from your photos, so there are no surprises on the day.

Why us?

  • Rooms protected and left tidy
  • Usually one visit, start to finish
  • Honest advice, even when it means no job
  • CHAS, Constructionline and SafeContractor accredited

How it works

Here’s how a visit normally runs: we arrive on time, protect everything around the work area, do the job and tidy away. Allow a morning or an afternoon. Before we go, we’ll explain how long to leave it and what to avoid for the first few days.

  1. First the standing area is cleaned and degreased.
  2. We mask out the area to be treated.
  3. We apply the clear textured coating.
  4. We remove the masking for a neat edge.
  5. We leave it to cure, normally overnight.

Getting ready for the visit

  • Clear the area around the damage
  • Mention if the room is upstairs or in a flat
  • Avoid using the area for a few hours before we arrive

Advice

When to call us in Kirkwall

Baths and trays are made smooth so they’re easy to clean, yet wet, soapy surfaces are slippery. Textured areas on older baths wear smooth too.

Common reasons people in Kirkwall contact us are:

  • A bath or tray that is slippery when wet
  • Resurfaced baths that are now too smooth
  • Bath mats that harbour mould or get forgotten
  • Worn-out textured areas

What to look for in a quote

  • Whether the colour is mixed to match
  • How changes to the job are handled
  • When it can be used again
  • Whether the price is fixed and includes VAT

How to compare quotes

What affects the price in Kirkwall

We give every job a fixed price from pictures. These are the things that affect it:

  • Doing more than one item at once
  • Where the damage is and how we get to it
  • The size and number of damaged areas
  • Unusual colours or finishes

The price reflects the work involved, not where you live. The full price is agreed before booking, with no extras added later.

Getting a price from pictures

A couple of clear pictures is all it takes. Try to include:

  • What it’s made of, if you know
  • One picture of the entire bath or shower tray
  • A coin beside the damage so we can judge size
  • Good light, ideally daylight, without flash glare

Ring 0345 017 0787, or send us pictures through the quote form. With one close-up and one wider picture, we can price the job.

Honest limits

It helps to know what we can’t do too:

  • Surfaces that are already damaged or peeling (these need repairing first)
  • Textured areas still wet or recently cleaned with oily products
  • Outdoor surfaces

Send us pictures and we will tell you honestly.

What we work on

  • Wet room floors (ask us)
  • Resurfaced baths
  • Acrylic baths
  • Shower trays
  • Enamelled baths
