About our bath re-enamelling in Toab

Re-enamelling is a one-day job for most baths, with the bath ready to use the following day. Taps, tiles, panels and plumbing all stay in place. If you’re dealing with an old resurfacing that’s failing and chips and rust in more than one place, we can help, on Victorian roll-tops, acrylic baths and cast iron baths alike.

The work is covered for a year after we finish. Just call us if there’s a problem and we will come back.

Should I try a DIY kit first?

If you are set on a kit, follow its instructions closely, make sure the area is clean and completely dry, and give it the full curing time. If it doesn’t work out, we can still repair it properly.

DIY kits are sold for most surfaces, and they can tidy up a tiny mark. The trouble is colour and preparation: kits come in a few standard shades, and without proper cleaning and keying the filler frequently lifts.

How we price bath re-enamelling

Prices start from £350. You will know the full cost before you book. We take into account:

  • What the surface is made of
  • Access to the area
  • How many items we do on one visit
  • How much damage there is

Compared with replacing, a repair is generally a fraction of the price, because nothing has to be taken out, refitted or made good. The quote lists exactly what you are paying for.

Photographing the damage takes a minute. Please include:

  • The postcode, so we can plan the visit
  • What it’s made of, if you know
  • A coin beside the damage so we can judge size
  • A picture taken from further back

Pricing is simple: take a close-up of the damage and a photo from further back, send them over with your postcode, and you’ll get a fixed price back. There’s no charge for the quote and no obligation.

When we would advise against a repair

A repair isn’t right for every job, for example:

  • Acrylic that moves when you stand in it
  • Holes rusted through the metal
  • Problems we cannot see until an old finish comes off

Not sure? Send pictures and we’ll give you a straight answer.

Toab: your questions answered

Can you re-enamel a roll-top bath?

Yes, roll-tops are a big part of our work. The inside is resurfaced, and we can refinish the outside as well.

Can I add another job to the visit?

Yes. Doing several items on one visit usually costs less than separate visits. Include photos of each item.

Will there be a smell?

There can be some smell while we work, which is why we ventilate. It fades as everything cures.

Will the price change on the day?

We stop, show you and agree any change before carrying on. Nothing extra is done without your say-so.

Do you work for landlords and businesses?

We do, regularly. We can quote for several properties together and work between tenancies.

What areas do you cover?

Across the UK, so Toab is covered. Our prices are the same everywhere.

Are there extra charges for Toab?

We don’t add a call-out fee. The fixed price covers the visit and the work.

How do I book?

Just pictures, your postcode and a contact number. On the day, access to the room.

Repair or replace: which is better?

For a sound bath, resurfacing costs far less than replacement, when you count removal, plumbing, tiling and decorating. It’s much quicker too. Prices start from £350. The price reflects the work involved, not where you live. The full price is agreed before booking, with nothing added on the day.

Why Toab customers choose us

  • Colour-matched on site
  • A year’s guarantee on all work

What your bath is made of matters

Pressed steel

Under the enamel of a steel bath is thin metal. Once a chip exposes it, rust follows quickly, so we treat and seal the metal before filling.

Cast iron

Cast iron baths are the classic candidate for re-enamelling. They’re built to last, and only the surface wears, so resurfacing gives them a new life.

Landlord and trade work in Toab

For developers and builders, we fix damage before handover, so there’s no need to replace a damaged item at the last minute. Several plots can be done in one visit to keep costs down.

We carry out planned and one-off repairs for housing associations and facilities teams. Repairing in place avoids the disruption of a replacement, which is easier on the people living there.

The process

We begin by going over the job with you, so there are no surprises. After that, protection goes down around the work area and we start. It normally takes a full day.

  1. The room is masked, protected and ventilated.
  2. The bath is cleaned, degreased and any chips or rust repaired.
  3. We key the surface and put on a bonding primer.
  4. Several coats of new finish are sprayed on.
  5. We leave it to cure, and it’s typically ready the day after.

Preparing for the visit

  • Let the surface dry out before the visit
  • Let us know if it has been repaired before
  • Clear toiletries, mats and anything else from around the area

Keeping it looking good

How the surface is treated afterwards matters:

  • Keep suction mats out of the bath
  • Clean with a soft cloth and mild detergent
  • A quick wipe after use keeps limescale away
  • Leave the bath for the full curing time before using it

The first few days matter most: give it the full curing time, then clean it gently. From then on, avoid abrasives and suction mats.

Avoid scrubbing a dull bath with abrasive cleaners. It removes more of the surface.
