Bath re-enamelling in Lancaster

Bath re-enamelling in Lancaster, done in place

Most baths are re-enamelled in a day, with the bath ready to use the following day. Taps, tiles, panels and plumbing all stay in place. We regularly repair acrylic baths, pressed steel baths and Victorian roll-tops, and the jobs we see most are worn patches where water runs and sits and a bath that stays dull however much you clean it.

Every job is backed for twelve months. We return to put right any problem with the work.

Signs you need bath re-enamelling in Lancaster

In hard water areas, limescale and the cleaning it needs wear enamel faster, and abrasive cleaners do the most damage.

Send us a picture if you notice any of these:

  • A dull, rough surface that will not come clean
  • Stains that will not shift
  • An old resurfacing that is failing
  • A period or roll-top bath worth keeping

What happens on the day

On the day, we arrive at the time we have agreed, cover the area with dust sheets and masking, and set to work. The job generally takes a full day. We clean up when we are done and tell you when it’s ready to use.

  1. The room is masked, protected and ventilated.
  2. We clean and degrease the bath and repair any chips or rust.
  3. The surface is prepared and a bonding primer applied.
  4. Several coats of new finish are sprayed on.
  5. We leave it to cure, and it’s typically ready the next day.

Repairs by material

Pressed steel

Steel baths and trays have a thin metal body under the enamel. Exposed steel rusts quickly, so we treat and seal the metal before filling.

Acrylic

Acrylic feels warm and is light, but it needs firm support underneath. Cracks are strengthened from behind before the front is finished.

Repair or replace in Lancaster?

If the bath is sound, re-enamelling is typically much cheaper than replacing it, when you count removal, plumbing, tiling and decorating. It’s also far quicker. Our bath re-enamelling starts from £350. Set against the cost of replacement, repairing typically costs far less, because there is no removal, plumbing or making good. The quote lists exactly what you’re paying for.

Why us?

  • We leave the room as we found it
  • Honest advice, even when it means no job

Should I try a DIY kit first?

DIY kits are sold for most surfaces, and they can make a small mark look better. The trouble is colour and preparation: they come in a handful of shades, and if the surface is not prepared the repair won’t last.

A kit can be fine for a tiny mark out of sight. For damage in plain view, cracks, holes or rust, or coloured finishes, a professional repair is worth it.

How to look after the repair

So the finish stays in good condition:

  • Don’t leave bottles, razors or sponges standing on the surface
  • A quick wipe after use keeps limescale away
  • Avoid suction-cup mats
  • Use washing-up liquid and a soft cloth

Dry the bath after use if possible, particularly with hard water, and rinse away any product left on the surface.

Rust spots on a worn bath get worse with time, and each one adds to the preparation. Resurfacing before they spread keeps it simpler.

When a repair isn’t the answer

Some jobs are not right for a repair, for example:

  • Leaks from fittings rather than the bath
  • Acrylic that moves when you stand in it
  • A bath that is rusted through

Not sure? Send pictures and we’ll give you a straight answer.

Prices and what affects them

Resurfacing from £350. Every quote is fixed and free. What we look at:

  • How many items we do on one visit
  • The size and number of damaged areas
  • How easy the damage is to reach
  • Whether old repairs or coatings need taking off

There are no surprise extras on the day. What we quote from your photos is what you pay, and if the damage turns out to be different, we discuss it before starting.

Getting a price from photos

You can take the photos on your phone, there’s no need for anything special. Ensure they show:

  • Daylight if possible, and no flash reflection
  • A wider photo showing the entire bath
  • A coin or ruler next to the damage for scale
  • What it’s made of, if you know

Call 0345 017 0787 or use the quote form. With a clear picture of the damage and one of the entire bath, we can give you a fixed price without visiting.
