How we handle bath re-enamelling in Leigham

After cleaning, repairing and priming, we spray on the new finish. The preparation is what makes it last, so we do not cut corners on it. We’re frequently asked to fix a bath that stays dull however much you clean it and several chips and rust patches, in acrylic baths, Victorian roll-tops and pressed steel baths.

Peace of mind is built in: our one-year guarantee applies to every job, and we explain what it covers before you book.

Common questions in Leigham

What happens if you find more damage?

If we find something the photos didn’t show, we explain it first. You decide whether to go ahead.

Do you cover the entire of Plymouth?

All of Plymouth, and the rest of the UK. Travel is included in the price.

Can you repair several things at once?

Yes, and it’s often cheaper. Send pictures of everything together and you will get one combined price.

Will there be fumes?

There is some smell while the coating is applied, which is why we ventilate the bathroom. It fades as the coating cures.

What happens next?

You will get a fixed quote back, plus dates. You are under no obligation.

How long is the bath unusable?

Most baths are done in a day, ready the day after. We give you timings with the quote.

Is it messy?

We protect the room with dust sheets and masking first, and we clean up when we have finished.

How do I get a price for bath re-enamelling in Leigham?

Resurfacing from £350. We give a fixed price from your pictures. Send a close-up and a picture of the entire item with your PL6 postcode.

What bath re-enamelling costs

Prices start from £350. You will not pay by the hour. The price is based on:

  • Where the damage is and how we get to it
  • Doing more than one item at once
  • The type of damage
  • Whether old repairs or coatings need taking off

No two jobs are quite the same, so each one is priced on its own. What’s damaged, how badly and how easy it is to reach all play a part, and doing several things on one visit costs less than separate visits.

Quotes from your pictures

We price nearly every job from photos. This is what we need:

  • Daylight if possible, and no flash reflection
  • What it’s made of, if you know
  • Any earlier repairs or coatings
  • A wider photo showing the entire bath

If you are in Leigham and want a price, the easiest route is photos: a close-up, a wider shot and your postcode. We reply with a fixed quote and our next available dates.

Should I try a DIY kit first?

If you’ve already tried a DIY fix, that’s fine. We remove the old filler and start again, so it doesn’t stop a professional repair. Just mention it when you send pictures, as it can add time.

For a hairline mark somewhere you will never see, a kit may be enough. For anything you look at every day, anything that has rusted, cracked or holed, or anything on a coloured surface, a professional repair is worth it.

Should you replace it?

For a sound bath, resurfacing costs far less than replacement, once you add removal, plumbing, tiling and decorating to the price of a new bath. It’s also far quicker. Our bath re-enamelling starts from £350. A repair is priced on what needs doing, not where you live. The full price is agreed before you book, with no extras added later.

Honest limits

Some jobs aren’t right for a repair, including:

  • Problems we cannot see until an old finish comes off
  • Leaking taps or wastes (a plumber’s job)
  • A metal bath with a through crack

If in doubt, send pictures and we’ll say what we think.

Materials we repair

  • Pressed steel baths
  • Acrylic baths
  • Cast iron baths
  • Basins & shower trays
  • Victorian roll-tops

Materials and what they mean for the repair

Pressed steel

Steel baths and trays have a thin metal body under the enamel. Once a chip exposes it, rust follows quickly, so we treat and seal the metal before filling.

Acrylic

Acrylic baths can be resurfaced too, with a coating system suited to acrylic. It must be solid and not flex underfoot for the finish to last.

Looking after it afterwards

To keep it looking its best for years:

  • Have chips seen to early
  • Store bottles off the bath
  • Clean with a soft cloth and mild detergent
  • Dry the bath after use to stop limescale

Rinse away dyes, oils and bath bombs straight after use, as they can stain. Repair dripping taps promptly.

Leave a peeling coating alone. Moisture gets underneath and makes it worse, so have it stripped and resurfaced.

How it works

From the moment we arrive, the aim is to do the job without disturbing the rest of your home. Surfaces nearby are masked off, the work takes a full day, depending on what we find, and we finish by cleaning up and talking you through the result.

  1. First we protect the bathroom and set up ventilation.
  2. Next we degrease the bath and fix chips and rust spots.
  3. We key the surface and put on a bonding primer.
  4. We spray on the new enamel finish in several coats.
  5. We leave it to cure, and it’s usually ready the following day.

Preparing for the visit

  • Let the surface dry out before the visit
  • Open a window if you can
  • Let us know about parking or access

How to get a price

Getting a quote takes a couple of minutes: photograph the damage, then the whole bath, include your postcode and send them to us. What comes back is a fixed quote, not a guess.
