Bath re-enamelling near Little Portugal

How we handle bath re-enamelling in Little Portugal

Cast iron, steel, acrylic, roll-top and period baths can all be resurfaced. The finish is sprayed on in several coats over a bonding primer, once the bath has been cleaned, repaired and prepared. If you are dealing with enamel that’s lost its shine and feels rough and a bath in a colour that no longer suits, we can help, whatever the material.

Every repair comes with a one-year guarantee.

Materials and what they mean for the repair

Cast iron

Cast iron baths are so heavy that repairing in place makes obvious sense. Only the enamel surface wears or chips, and that is the part we put right.

Pressed steel

Steel baths and trays have a thin metal body under the enamel. Once a chip exposes it, rust follows quickly, so we treat and seal the metal before filling.

What we do, step by step

Visits start with a quick look at the job together, so there are no surprises. Next, we cover and mask everything nearby and the work begins. It normally takes the best part of a day, and we’ll keep you posted as we go.

  1. The room is masked, protected and ventilated.
  2. The bath is cleaned, degreased and any chips or rust repaired.
  3. We prepare the surface and apply a bonding primer.
  4. Several coats of new finish are sprayed on.
  5. Once cured, normally by the following day, the bath is ready.

How to prepare

  • Keep pets and children out of the room while we work
  • Tell us about any previous repairs or coatings
  • Tell us about parking, stairs or access

Ask for a price

There’s no need for us to visit first. Photos are enough for us to price nearly every job: send a close-up, a wider shot and your postcode, and we will reply with a fixed quote.

When to call us in Little Portugal

Sometimes it’s an earlier resurfacing that has failed, lifting by the plughole or blistering. Failing coatings are stripped back before we resurface.

You may need us if you’ve spotted:

  • Lots of chips and rust spots
  • A period or roll-top bath worth keeping
  • A peeling or bubbling previous coating
  • Stains that won’t shift

Questions to ask before you book

  • Whether there are any call-out or travel charges
  • Whether a trained technician does the job
  • How the room is protected while they work
  • Whether the price is fixed and includes VAT

Our hiring checklist

How we price bath re-enamelling

Prices start from £350. Each job gets its own fixed price. This is what makes a difference:

  • Any earlier repairs that need removing first
  • The colour and finish to match
  • Doing more than one item at once
  • How much damage there is

A few things move the price: the amount of damage, the material, access to the area, and how many jobs we do in one trip. Photos let us give you a fixed figure.

How to get a fixed price

The better the photos, the more accurate the price. Here’s what we find most useful:

  • The material, if you know it
  • A clear, close picture of the problem area
  • A coin or ruler next to the damage for scale
  • Any earlier repairs or coatings

Getting a price is easy: snap the damage close up and then the whole item, send them over with your postcode, and we’ll reply with a fixed price. Quotes are free and no obligation.

For landlords and businesses

We regularly price jobs from inventory or check-out pictures. You can have a price before you arrange access, and we liaise with tenants about access if you’d like us to.

Builders, developers and site managers book us for snagging repairs, fixing chips and scratches before handover so nothing needs replacing. We hold CHAS, Constructionline and SafeContractor accreditations.

Looking after it afterwards

Once the work has cured, treat it gently:

  • Do not use the bath until it has fully cured
  • Don’t let dyes or oils sit on the finish
  • Use washing-up liquid and a soft cloth
  • Never use suction bath mats

Dry the bath after use if possible, and rinse off any bath products.

Worn enamel only gets rougher with time, and rust spots spread under the surface. Resurfacing sooner means less repair work first.

Questions from Little Portugal

Is it worth repairing rather than replacing?

In most cases, yes. A repair skips the removal, fitting and redecorating. We will be honest if it’s not worth it.

How quickly can you book me in?

That depends on our diary for your area. We will offer you dates when we send your quote.

Can tenants book a repair?

Yes. Ask your landlord first, and we can send them the quote if that helps.

Are there extra charges for Little Portugal?

Travel is included in the price, and we charge the same wherever you are.

Is it messy?

Dust sheets and masking go down before we start, and tidy up before we leave.

Do you do work for letting agents?

Yes, often. We can quote for several properties together and work between tenancies.

Do you cover the entire of Greater London?

We work UK-wide, and that includes Little Portugal. Prices don’t change with location.

Is there a guarantee?

All our work carries our one-year guarantee. We will explain what it covers when we quote.

Can I fix it myself?

The difference between a kit and a professional repair is mostly in the preparation and colour. We prepare the area properly, mix the colour on site and polish the finish to match, then guarantee it for a year.

If you are set on a kit, follow its instructions closely, ensure the area is clean and completely dry, and give it the full curing time. If it does not work out, we can still repair it properly.

Repair or replace in Little Portugal?

Getting a cast iron bath out is hard work: it’s very heavy, may need breaking up, and the replacement can be costly. Resurfacing in place avoids that entirely. Our bath re-enamelling starts from £350. What it costs depends on how much damage there is and what kind, what it’s made of and how many jobs we combine into one visit. You get a fixed quote from your photos, so you know the cost before you book.
