Bath re-enamelling in Llandw without replacing anything

After cleaning, repairing and priming, we spray on the new finish. The preparation is what makes it last, and we take our time over it. Common call-outs are for lots of chips and rust spots and a bath in a colour that no longer suits, in Victorian roll-tops, basins & shower trays and cast iron baths.

The work is guaranteed for twelve months. If there is a problem with the repair within the year, we return and sort it.

DIY repairs versus a professional job

A DIY attempt isn’t a disaster. We take the old repair out and do it properly, so it won’t stop us repairing it. It does add a little time, so tell us about it when you send pictures.

If you’re set on a kit, follow its instructions closely, make sure the area is clean and completely dry, and give it the full curing time. If it doesn’t work out, we can still repair it properly.

Looking after it afterwards

So the finish stays in good condition:

  • Avoid suction-cup mats
  • A quick wipe after use keeps limescale away
  • Wash away dyes and oils after use
  • Store bottles off the bath

Use mild, non-abrasive cleaners, avoid suction bath mats, and keep bottles and razors off the surface.

Leave a peeling coating alone. Moisture gets underneath and makes it worse, so have it stripped and resurfaced.

How it works

Nothing needs to be moved out of the room beforehand. Everything we use comes in the van with us, put protection down and start once you’re happy with the plan. Most jobs take the best part of a day, and you are welcome to carry on with your day while we work.

  1. The bathroom is protected and ventilation set up.
  2. Old sealant is cut out and the bath is deep cleaned.
  3. We repair chips, rust spots and pitting.
  4. We key the bath and apply a bonding primer.
  5. The new finish is sprayed on in several coats and left to cure until the day after.

Getting ready for the visit

Llandw questions

Do you resurface freestanding baths?

Yes. Inside and out.

What information do you need?

Just photos, your postcode and a contact number. On the day, access to the room.

Will there be fumes?

A little, during the work. We set up ventilation and the smell fades as it cures.

Will there be a smell?

Expect a mild smell while we are working, which fades afterwards.

Are you accredited?

We are accredited with CHAS, Constructionline, SafeContractor, SMAS Worksafe and Builder’s Profile.

Can you do more than one item on the same visit?

Yes, and it’s often cheaper. Send pictures of everything together and you will get one combined price.

Does someone need to be in?

We need someone to let us in. After that, you can carry on with your day.

Can you quote from photos?

Nearly always. If photos don’t show enough, we will ask for another angle.

When we would advise against a repair

A repair isn’t right for every job, for example:

  • A bath split right through the body
  • Plumbing leaks, which need a plumber
  • A poorly supported acrylic bath, until it’s firmed up

Not sure? Send photos and we’ll give you a straight answer before booking.

Surfaces we repair

  • Acrylic baths
  • Cast iron baths
  • Victorian roll-tops
  • Pressed steel baths
  • Basins & shower trays

Repairs by material

Pressed steel

Steel baths and trays have a thin metal body under the enamel. Once a chip exposes it, rust follows quickly, so we treat and seal the metal before filling.

Cast iron

Re-enamelling suits cast iron baths perfectly. The body lasts for generations; only the enamel wears, so a new finish makes them look new again.

Why repair rather than replace?

Replacing the bath means a plumber, lifting out the old bath, making good the walls and tiles and several days without a working bathroom. Resurfacing gives the bath a new finish with the bath left where it is. Resurfacing from £350, with every job priced individually. Rather than charging by the hour, we price the entire job up front. Damage, material and access decide it.

Common problems we fix in Llandw

The gloss on enamel is thin, and abrasive cleaning slowly wears it away. Eventually the surface turns porous and stains.

Look out for any of the following:

  • Stains that won’t shift
  • A bath in a colour that no longer suits
  • Chips and rust in more than one place
  • An old resurfacing that’s failing

What bath re-enamelling costs

Resurfacing from £350. There’s no charge for travel to Llandw. The price depends on:

  • Where the damage is and how we get to it
  • Doing more than one item at once
  • How many areas need work
  • Unusual colours or finishes

No two jobs are quite the same, so each one is priced on its own. What’s damaged, how badly and how easy it is to reach all play a part, and doing several things on one visit costs less than separate visits.

Quotes from your pictures

The better the pictures, the more accurate the price. Here’s what we find most useful:

  • Details of any past repairs
  • Good light, ideally daylight, without flash glare
  • Something in shot to show the size
  • The material, if you know it

Getting a quote takes a couple of minutes: photograph the damage, then the entire bath, include your postcode and send them to us. You will get a fixed price, not an estimate.
