How bath repair works in CF71

Most bath damage, from chips and cracks to rust spots and holes, is repaired in place. There is no plumbing to disconnect, the tiles are not touched, and the finish is matched to the rest of the bath. Our repair technicians work on roll-top & freestanding, pressed steel enamel and whirlpool & spa baths, and people most often call us about damage done while the bathroom was being fitted and rusty patches near the plughole.

We begin by going over the job with you, so there are no surprises. Then the area is sheeted and masked and the work begins. It normally takes two to three hours for most chips.

  1. Dust sheets and masking go down around the bath.
  2. The damaged area is cleaned, keyed and degreased, and any rust is treated.
  3. We fill it, let it set, then sand it flush.
  4. Colour and gloss are matched to the surrounding surface.
  5. We tidy up and tell you when the bath can be used, typically the following day.

Cowbridge’s nearest station is Llantwit Major station, about 3.7 miles south of the centre. Why repair rather than replace?

If the rest of the bath is in good condition, a repair is almost always the better choice. It’s quicker, cheaper and far less disruptive, and the bathroom stays as it is. Where the entire surface is tired, we may suggest re-enamelling instead.

Questions to ask before you book

  • Whether they match the colour on site
  • What preparation is included
  • The length of the guarantee and what it covers
  • How long it needs to cure

Signs you need bath repair

Baths take more knocks than people expect: everyday items get dropped into it all the time, and fittings press hard against the enamel. Sooner or later, most baths pick up a chip.

Keep an eye out for any of the following:

  • Hairline or through cracks in acrylic
  • Chips on the rim or sides
  • Snagging damage from a refit
  • Holes from dropped items

How to care for the repair

How the surface is treated afterwards matters. Here’s what we suggest:

  • Cover the bath during DIY or decorating
  • Use a soft cloth and washing-up liquid for everyday cleaning
  • A dripping tap stains enamel, so fix it early
  • Ensure an acrylic bath is firm underfoot

Give the repair the full curing time we recommend before using the bath. From then on, mild cleaning is all it needs.

Do not leave a chip on a steel or cast iron bath. Once water reaches the metal, rust begins, turning a quick repair into a bigger one.

Prices and what affects them

Prices start from £95. There is no charge for travel to CF71. The price depends on:

  • The material
  • How hard the colour is to match
  • Any earlier repairs that need removing first
  • Doing more than one item at once

Set against the cost of replacement, a repair is usually a fraction of the price, because nothing has to be taken out, refitted or made good. The quote lists exactly what you’re paying for.

Send pictures for a quote

It only takes a minute to photograph the damage. Please include:

  • Whether it’s been repaired or coated before
  • One sharp close-up of the damage
  • A coin beside the damage so we can judge size
  • Any details about the material

To get a price, send a couple of photos through our quote form or call us. We will tell you honestly whether it can be repaired.

Honest limits

Not everything can be repaired, and we will tell you before we start. We cannot fix:

  • Cracks in acrylic we can’t reach from underneath
  • A bath that moves underfoot, until its support is fixed
  • Leaking fittings, which need a plumber

Common questions in CF71

What do you need from me?

Some photos, your postcode and how to reach you. On the day, access to the room.

What if the damage is worse than the pictures show?

It’s rare, but if it happens we talk to you first. The price only changes if you agree.

Can a cracked acrylic bath be fixed?

Often, yes, as long as we can get to the back of the crack to support it. Check under the bath panel, or send us a picture.

Can you do more than one item on the same visit?

Yes. Doing several items on one visit usually costs less than separate visits. Include pictures of each item.

Will it make a mess?

We protect the room with dust sheets and masking first, and we clean up when we’ve finished.

Do you charge for travel?

We don’t add a call-out fee. The fixed price covers the visit and the work.
