Bath re-enamelling in Llanigon

Bath re-enamelling at your home in Llanigon

Many of the baths we re-enamel are period roll-tops, which are heavy, hard to move and costly to replace. Resurfacing them in place keeps the original bath. Typical jobs include staining under the taps and around the waste and a peeling or bubbling previous coating, across acrylic baths, cast iron baths and Victorian roll-tops.

Every job is backed for twelve months. If something goes wrong with the work, we come back.

Repair or replace: which is better?

Replacing the bath means a plumber, lifting out the old bath, making good the walls and tiles and days without a bathroom. Resurfacing gives the bath a new finish without moving it. Prices start from £350. A few things move the price: the amount of damage, the material, access to the area, and how many jobs we do in one trip. Photos let us give you a fixed figure.

Why us?

  • Accredited with CHAS, Constructionline and SafeContractor
  • We leave the room as we found it
  • No extra charge for your area
  • Work done at your home or business

Materials and what they mean for the repair

Cast iron

Re-enamelling suits cast iron baths perfectly. The body lasts for generations; only the enamel wears, so a new finish makes them look new again.

Roll-top and period baths

Freestanding roll-tops can be done inside and out, with the outside refinished as well.

What bath re-enamelling costs

Resurfacing from £350. You will know the full cost before you book. We look at:

  • Whether old repairs or coatings need taking off
  • Whether it’s a chip, crack, burn or wear
  • How hard the colour is to match
  • How much damage there is

Set against the cost of replacement, repairing generally costs far less, because there is no removal, plumbing or making good. Your fixed quote shows exactly what’s included.

Getting a price from photos

A couple of clear pictures is all it takes. It helps if you send:

  • Any earlier repairs or coatings
  • Where you are, by postcode
  • What it’s made of, if you know
  • Natural light rather than flash

Getting a quote takes a couple of minutes: take one close-up and one wider shot of the bath, include your postcode and send them over. You will get a fixed quote, not an estimate.

Honest limits

It helps to know what we can’t do too:

  • A metal bath with a through crack
  • Leaks from fittings rather than the bath
  • Holes rusted through the metal

Send us pictures and we will tell you honestly.

What we work on

  • Basins & shower trays
  • Pressed steel baths
  • Victorian roll-tops
  • Cast iron baths
  • Acrylic baths

What we do, step by step

You don’t need to empty the room beforehand. We bring everything we need with us, lay protective sheets and start once you’re happy with the plan. Most jobs take the best part of a day, and you can get on with other things while we are there.

  1. The room is masked, protected and ventilated.
  2. Next we degrease the bath and fix chips and rust spots.
  3. We key the surface and put on a bonding primer.
  4. We spray on the new enamel finish in several coats.
  5. Once cured, normally by the day after, the bath is ready.

How to prepare

  • Keep a parking space free if you can
  • Avoid using the area for a few hours before we arrive
  • Mention any parking restrictions or tricky access

Advice

Should I try a DIY kit first?

It’s tempting to reach for a kit, but the repairs we redo most frequently are DIY ones that have discoloured or lifted. Getting it right first time is typically cheaper.

You can buy a DIY kit for most repairs, and they can make a small mark look better. The trouble is colour and preparation: they come in a handful of shades, and if the surface isn’t prepared the repair will not last.

Questions from Llanigon

Can you do the outside of a roll-top?

Yes, frequently. The inside is resurfaced, and we can refinish the outside as well.

Is repairing better than replacing?

Generally, yes. A repair skips the removal, fitting and redecorating. We’ll be honest if it’s not worth it.

Will the new finish last?

Look after it and it lasts. Avoid abrasive cleaners and suction mats.

Will the price change on the day?

If we find something the pictures didn’t show, we explain it first. The price only changes if you agree.

Do you do work for letting agents?

We do, regularly. We quote for multiple addresses and fit around tenancy changeovers.

I rent my home. Can I book you?

Yes. Ask your landlord first, and we can send them the quote if that helps.

How long will the bath be out of use?

Generally a day, then it’s ready to use the following day. Deeply pitted baths may need a second day.

What happens after I send photos?

We review the photos and send a fixed quote with dates.

How to look after the repair

Much of the damage we repair could have been avoided. These habits help:

  • Repair dripping taps early
  • Have chips seen to early
  • Use washing-up liquid and a soft cloth
  • Wash away dyes and oils after use

Wipe the bath dry after use where you can, and rinse away any product left on the surface.

Leave a peeling coating alone. Moisture gets underneath and makes it worse, so it’s better to have it stripped and redone.
