How we handle bath re-enamelling in Long Line

Resurfacing renews the whole surface of the bath without taking anything out. It’s the answer when the whole bath is tired rather than one spot. We work on pressed steel baths, acrylic baths and cast iron baths, and common reasons people contact us are staining under the taps and around the waste and a dull, rough surface that won’t come clean.

Every repair comes with our one-year guarantee.

Roll-top bath being refinished by a Surface Doctor technician

Different materials, different repairs

Cast iron

A cast iron bath is heavy enough that most people never want to move it. The enamel is the part that wears or chips, and that is the part we put right.

Roll-top and period baths

We can resurface a roll-top inside and out, with the outside refinished as well.

Repairing versus replacing in Long Line

Replacement only makes sense in a few cases: a cracked-through bath, a change of size or shape, or a full refit. Otherwise, resurfacing usually wins. Resurfacing from £350, with every job priced individually. Rather than charging by the hour, we fix the price before we start. It depends on the damage, the material and access, and doing several items at once reduces it.

Why us?

  • We’ll tell you if it’s not worth repairing
  • One price list for the entire UK
  • Work done at your home or business
  • Everything repaired in place

Take a look at our pricing and guide to resurfacing and replacement costs.

What bath re-enamelling costs

Prices start from £350. Each job gets its own fixed quote. These are the things that affect it:

  • How hard the colour is to match
  • How many areas need work
  • Any earlier repairs that need removing first
  • Doing more than one item at once

Compared with replacing, a repair is usually a fraction of the price, because nothing has to be taken out, refitted or made good. The quote lists exactly what you are paying for.

Getting a price from photos

The better the photos, the more accurate the price. Here’s what we find most useful:

  • Any details about the material
  • Whether it’s been repaired or coated before
  • Daylight if possible, and no flash reflection
  • One picture of the entire bath

Getting a quote takes a couple of minutes: photograph the damage, then the whole bath, include your postcode and send them over. You will get a fixed price, not an estimate.

Should I try a DIY kit first?

If you do try a kit, read the instructions carefully, and give it the full curing time. If it fails, we can still put it right.

A kit can be fine for a tiny mark out of sight. For damage in plain view, cracks, holes or rust, or coloured finishes, it’s worth having it done properly.

When to call us in Long Line

Hard water speeds up the wear, and gritty cleaners are the worst culprits.

You may need us if you’ve spotted:

  • A coloured bath you want in white
  • Wear marks under the taps
  • Stains that won’t shift
  • A period or roll-top bath worth keeping

Before booking anyone

  • Who will actually do the work
  • Whether the price is fixed and includes VAT
  • How the room is protected while they work
  • How the colour is matched

How to compare quotes

How it works

On the day itself, there’s little for you to do. Let us in and show us the room, and we’ll take it from there. The job generally runs to most of the day, including clearing up.

  1. We check the bath and agree the finish with you.
  2. Taps, tiles and the floor are masked off.
  3. The bath is degreased, repaired and keyed.
  4. Primer and finish coats are applied.
  5. We remove the masking, tidy up and give you the curing time.

How to prepare

  • Let us know if it has been repaired before
  • Avoid using the area for a few hours before we arrive
  • Clear the area around the damage

FAQs for Long Line

Can you re-enamel a roll-top bath?

Yes, frequently. We resurface the inside, and the outside can be refinished too.

Will there be fumes?

Some odour is normal while we spray, which is why we ventilate the bathroom. It fades as the coating cures.

Do I need to be at home?

We need someone to let us in. You don’t need to watch us work.

Do you come to Long Line?

Yes, we do. We send a technician to Long Line for every job, with no extra charge for travel.

Do you charge for travel?

No. Our quotes include travel, with the same prices everywhere we work.

Can you change the colour of my bath?

Yes. We can resurface a coloured bath in white, and we can do the rest of the suite as well.

Can landlords book you?

We do, regularly. We can quote for several properties together and work between tenancies.

Can you price it without visiting?

Generally, yes. A close-up and a wider photo are enough to give a fixed price.

Some jobs aren’t right for a repair, for example:

  • Plumbing leaks, which need a plumber
