Bath re-enamelling at your home in Marykirk

When a bath is structurally fine but worn out on the surface, re-enamelling is generally the most cost-effective option. It avoids removal, plumbing and re-tiling. Whether it’s chips and rust in more than one place and brown or grey marks that don’t clean off, we can generally put it right.

You’re covered after we leave: our one-year guarantee applies to every job, and we explain what it covers before you book.

Repairs by material

Cast iron

Cast iron baths are the classic candidate for re-enamelling. The body lasts for generations; only the enamel wears, so a new finish makes them look new again.

Pressed steel

Steel baths re-enamel well, as long as any rust is dealt with first. Steel frequently rusts by the plughole, so we pay close attention there.

Should you replace it?

Replacing the bath means a plumber, lifting out the old bath, re-tiling or making good the walls and several days without a working bathroom. Re-enamelling renews the whole surface without moving it. Prices start from £350. There are no surprise extras on the day. The price we quote from your pictures is the price you pay, and if the damage turns out to be different, we discuss it before starting.

Marykirk questions

Do you come to Marykirk?

We do. We send a technician to Marykirk for every job, and the price is the same as everywhere else.

Is it safe with children and pets around?

We ask you to keep children and pets out of the room while we work. The rest of the house is unaffected.

Does the bath have to be removed?

Not at all. We work on the bath in place, with the room protected and ventilated.

I rent my home. Can I book you?

We can work for tenants, landlords or agents. Get your landlord’s agreement first.

Is there a smell?

There is some smell while the coating is applied, which is why we ventilate the bathroom. It clears as the finish cures.

Are there extra charges for Marykirk?

Travel is included in the price, with the same prices everywhere we work.

What happens after I send photos?

We come back with a fixed quote, typically with dates to choose from. There’s no obligation to book.

How long does re-enamelling last?

It depends on preparation, use and care. With good preparation and gentle cleaning it lasts a long time, and our work is guaranteed for a year.

When we would advise against a repair

We would rather lose a job than do one that won’t last, so here’s what a repair cannot put right:

  • Acrylic that moves when you stand in it
  • Anything hidden under an old coating, until we remove it
  • Leaks from fittings rather than the bath

Send us photos and we’ll tell you honestly.

Materials we repair

  • Victorian roll-tops
  • Acrylic baths
  • Basins & shower trays
  • Pressed steel baths
  • Cast iron baths

Work for landlords and builders

We are used to working with agents and managing companies. Just send photos, the address and how to get access and we’ll handle the rest.

We also carry out snagging repairs for builders and developers, putting right damage done during fitting so nothing needs replacing. We’re CHAS, Constructionline and SafeContractor accredited.

The process

It’s a tidy, low-fuss visit. We agree the arrival time in advance, cover and mask the work area, and get on with the job, which usually takes most of the day. If we find something your pictures didn’t show, we will explain it before carrying on.

  1. The bathroom is protected and ventilation set up.
  2. Old sealant is cut out and the bath is deep cleaned.
  3. We repair chips, rust spots and pitting.
  4. The surface is keyed and primed for the new finish.
  5. The new finish is sprayed on in several coats and left to cure.

Getting ready for the visit

  • Keep children and pets away from the room on the day
  • Let us know if it has been repaired before
  • Clear the area around the damage

Related advice

Should I try a DIY kit first?

We understand the appeal of fixing it yourself. The risk is that a kit repair hides the damage for a while, then fails, and then the old filler has to be removed first.

If you are set on a kit, follow its instructions closely, and don’t use it until it has fully cured. If it does not work out, we can still repair it properly.

Prices and what affects them

Resurfacing from £350. A fixed quote means you know the cost before you book. We look at:

  • How easy the damage is to reach
  • Whether old repairs or coatings need taking off
  • What kind of damage it is
  • How hard the colour is to match

A few things move the price: access, material, the extent of the damage and whether we can do several items together. Photos let us give you a fixed figure.

Getting a price from pictures

A couple of clear pictures is all it takes. Try to include:

  • A picture taken from further back
  • Daylight if possible, and no flash reflection
  • Where you are, by postcode
  • Any earlier repairs or coatings

To get a price, send a couple of pictures using our quote form or call us. We will tell you honestly if a repair is the right fix.

Looking after it afterwards

Good habits make a big difference to how long a repair lasts. Here’s what we suggest:

  • Don’t leave bottles, razors or sponges standing on the surface
  • Wipe the bath dry after use in hard water areas
  • Stick to gentle, non-abrasive cleaners
  • Have chips seen to early

Wait for the curing time we give you before the first bath. Then, gentle cleaning with a soft cloth is enough.

Avoid scrubbing a dull bath with abrasive cleaners. It removes more of the surface and makes resurfacing more work.
