Bath re-enamelling in Mill of Fintray without replacing anything
We don’t move the bath, so your taps, tiles and plumbing are left alone. It usually takes one visit, with the bath ready to use the following day. We work on Victorian roll-tops, basins & shower trays and cast iron baths, and the jobs we see most are a coating lifting around the plughole and a bath in a colour that no longer suits.
You are covered for a year from the day of the repair. If anything isn’t right, ring us and we’ll sort it.

Should you replace it?
Replacing the bath means a plumber, lifting out the old bath, making good the walls and tiles and days without a bathroom. Resurfacing renews the whole surface without moving it. Resurfacing from £350, with every job priced individually. Our prices are the same across the UK, so there’s no premium for Mill of Fintray. The job itself decides the price: how much damage, what it’s made of and how many items.

Work for landlords and builders
Hotels, guest houses and holiday lets can’t afford rooms out of action for long, so we keep visits short and tidy. We can work around your bookings.
Landlords, letting agents and housing providers in Mill of Fintray use us as well as householders. Repairing between tenancies keeps void periods short, and it typically costs far less than a refit.
Should I try a DIY kit first?
It’s tempting to reach for a kit, but the repairs we redo most frequently are DIY ones that have discoloured or lifted. Doing it properly first is typically the cheaper route.
You can buy a DIY kit for most repairs, and they can tidy up a tiny mark. The trouble is colour and preparation: kits come in a few standard shades, and without proper cleaning and keying the filler frequently lifts.
Materials and what they mean for the repair
Cast iron
Cast iron baths are the classic candidate for re-enamelling. The body lasts for generations; only the enamel wears, so resurfacing gives them a new life.
Pressed steel
Pressed steel baths take a new finish well, once any rust has been treated. Rust around the waste is common on steel, so we pay close attention there.
Honest limits
We would rather lose a job than do one that will not last, so these are the limits:
- Leaks from fittings rather than the bath
- Anything hidden under an old coating, until we remove it
- A poorly supported acrylic bath, until it’s firmed up
Send us pictures and we will tell you honestly.

The process
You don’t need to empty the room beforehand. Everything we use comes in the van with us, lay protective sheets and get going once we’ve agreed what we’re doing. Most jobs take the best part of a day, and you can get on with other things while we’re there.
- We mask and protect the room and ventilate it.
- We clean and degrease the bath and repair any chips or rust.
- We prepare the surface and apply a bonding primer.
- Several coats of new finish are sprayed on.
- We leave it to cure, and it’s usually ready the day after.
Before we arrive
- Mention any earlier repairs or resurfacing
- Tell us about parking, stairs or access
- Plan for the room to be out of bounds to pets and children

Advice
Mill of Fintray: your questions answered
Can you fix a peeling bath coating?
Yes, we do this regularly. Stripping the old coating adds time, so it’s reflected in the quote.
How durable is a resurfaced bath?
That depends on preparation and how the bath is treated. With good preparation and gentle cleaning it lasts a long time, and our work is guaranteed for a year.
Do you hold any accreditations?
We hold CHAS, Constructionline, SafeContractor, SMAS Worksafe and Builder’s Profile accreditations.
Will there be a smell?
It depends on the job, but often a little. Ventilation keeps it to a minimum.
Is it worth repairing rather than replacing?
In most cases, yes. A repair skips the removal, fitting and redecorating. If it is not worth repairing, we’ll tell you.
Can you redo someone else’s repair?
Usually, yes. We remove the old repair before doing a new one.
What happens once I’ve sent pictures?
You’ll get a fixed quote back, plus dates. There’s no obligation to book.
Can you do the outside of a roll-top?
Yes, frequently. The inside is resurfaced, and we can refinish the outside as well.
Looking after it afterwards
Aftercare is simple:
- Keep suction mats out of the bath
- Clean with a soft cloth and mild detergent
- Don’t leave a chip unrepaired
- Wash away dyes and oils after use
Rinse away dyes, oils and bath bombs straight after use, as they can stain. Fix dripping taps quickly.
If a previous coating is starting to peel, do not pick at it. Moisture gets underneath and makes it worse, so it’s better to have it stripped and redone.
