Bath re-enamelling in Netherthong

Repair or replace in Netherthong?

A replacement frequently means several trades over several days. Re-enamelling is one technician, usually one day, and the bath is usable the day after. Resurfacing from £350, with every job priced individually. A few things move the price: access, material, the extent of the damage and whether we can do several items together. Photos let us give you a fixed figure.

Bath re-enamelling in Netherthong without replacing anything

When a bath is structurally fine but worn out on the surface, re-enamelling is normally the most cost-effective option. There’s no removal, plumbing or tiling involved. We regularly repair acrylic baths, cast iron baths and basins & shower trays, and common reasons people get in touch are a period or roll-top bath worth keeping and a coating lifting around the plughole.

The work is covered for a year after we finish. If anything isn’t right, ring us and we will come back.

Do you need bath re-enamelling in Netherthong?

Enamel doesn’t fail overnight. Abrasive cleaners, limescale and years of use wear the gloss away, usually first under the taps and around the waste.

You may need us if you’ve spotted any of these:

  • A dull, rough surface that will not come clean
  • A peeling or bubbling previous coating
  • Brown or grey marks that do not clean off
  • An original cast iron bath that needs restoring

10 questions to ask before you book

Netherthong: your questions answered

Are there extra charges for Netherthong?

We don’t add a call-out fee. Your fixed price includes everything.

Can tenants book a repair?

Yes, though it’s best to check with your landlord first. Landlords are often glad to have it sorted before the end of a tenancy.

Will the bath be moved?

No. It’s re-enamelled where it stands, so nothing else is disturbed.

Will you leave a mess?

Dust sheets and masking go down before we start, and we clean up when we’ve finished.

Is the work guaranteed?

Yes: twelve months. If anything goes wrong with the repair within the year, we return to fix it.

Is there a smell?

There is some smell while the coating is applied, so we ventilate the room. It fades as the coating cures.

Do the materials smell?

A little, depending on the job. Ventilation keeps it to a minimum, and it soon fades.

Can you re-enamel a roll-top bath?

Yes. Inside and out.

When we would advise against a repair

We’d rather lose a job than do one that will not last, so these are the limits:

  • Damage hidden under a previous coating, until it’s stripped back
  • An acrylic bath that flexes badly underfoot
  • Leaking taps or wastes (a plumber’s job)

Not sure? Send pictures and we will give you a straight answer before you book.

Surfaces we repair

  • Acrylic baths
  • Cast iron baths
  • Victorian roll-tops
  • Basins & shower trays
  • Pressed steel baths

Can I fix it myself?

It’s tempting to reach for a kit, but many of the jobs we do start with putting right a DIY repair. Getting it right first time is usually cheaper.

A kit can be fine for a tiny mark out of sight. For anything you look at every day, anything that has rusted, cracked or holed, or anything on a coloured surface, it’s worth having it done properly.

How to care for the repair

A little care keeps the finish looking good. We recommend:

  • Stick to gentle, non-abrasive cleaners
  • Keep suction mats out of the bath
  • Keep toiletries on a shelf rather than in the bath
  • Fix dripping taps quickly

Treat the new finish gently at first: let it cure fully, then use mild cleaners only. After that, no abrasives and no suction mats.

Don’t try to scrub a worn bath back to shine. It just wears the enamel further and makes resurfacing more work.

Materials and what they mean for the repair

Roll-top and period baths

Freestanding roll-tops can be done inside and out, and the outside can be refinished too.

Cast iron

Cast iron baths are the classic candidate for re-enamelling. The body lasts for generations; only the enamel wears, so a new finish makes them look new again.

What affects the price in Netherthong

Resurfacing from £350. Quotes are free and the price is fixed. What we look at:

  • Previous DIY repairs that have to come out
  • Whether we combine several jobs
  • The colour and finish to match
  • How easy the damage is to reach

Every job is a little different, so each one is priced on its own. What’s damaged, how badly and how easy it is to reach all play a part, and combining jobs on one visit brings the cost down.

Getting a price from pictures

Two or three clear photos are normally enough. It helps if you send:

  • The material, if you know it
  • Details of any past repairs
  • The postcode, so we can plan the visit
  • One sharp close-up of the damage

If you are in Netherthong and want a price, the easiest route is pictures: one close up, one from further back, plus your postcode. We reply with a fixed quote and our next available dates.

How the visit works

We turn up when we said we would and looks over the damage before anything else. The floor and nearby surfaces are covered before we open a single tin. Most visits take the best part of a day, and we leave the room as we found it.

  1. First we protect the bathroom and set up ventilation.
  2. We clean and degrease the bath and repair any chips or rust.
  3. The surface is prepared and a bonding primer applied.
  4. We spray on the new enamel finish in several coats.
  5. We leave it to cure, and it’s normally ready the day after.

Getting ready for the visit

  • Make sure the room can be ventilated
  • Point us to the nearest place to park
  • Clear the area around the damage

Getting a price

Getting a quote takes a couple of minutes: photograph the damage, then the whole bath, add your postcode and send them over. You will get a fixed price, not an estimate.
