Bath repair across HD9: what to expect

Chips, cracks, rust spots and small holes can be repaired with the bath left exactly where it is. There’s no plumbing to disconnect, the tiles are not touched, and the repaired area is colour matched so it blends in. We work on roll-top & freestanding, cast iron enamel and acrylic, and the jobs we see most are a cracked acrylic bath and scuffs and scratches in the surface.

We turn up when we said we would, introduces themselves and checks the damage against your photos first. Dust sheets and masking tape go down before we open a single tin. Most visits take a morning or an afternoon, and we leave the room as we found it.

  1. We protect the bath and the floor around it.
  2. The damaged area is cleaned, keyed and degreased.
  3. Filler goes in and is sanded flush once it has set.
  4. Colour and gloss are matched to the surrounding surface.
  5. We tidy up and tell you when the bath can be used, usually the day after.

You don’t need a survey visit. Nearly every job can be priced from photos: send a close-up, a wider shot and your postcode, and we will come back to you with a fixed figure.

What’s near Meltham

In Meltham, that means homes near Colne Valley High School, Meltham CofE (VC) Primary School and The Swan pub and the streets around them. For rail, the closest station is Slaithwaite station, about 2.5 miles north-west of the centre. Nearby you’ll also find St. Luke's Hospital (3.4 miles north-east) and David Brown Tractor Museum (0.6 miles east). Green spaces nearby include Oldfield Hill.

How the damage happens

The usual cause is something heavy dropped into the bath, and building work is a common culprit. Cracks in acrylic have a different cause: poor support underneath, so the bath flexes when it’s full.

These are the problems we’re asked about most:

  • Damage beneath the taps
  • A chipped rim or side
  • An old repair that has yellowed or come loose
  • Rust spots around the plughole

What a repair cannot fix

To be straight with you, there are a few things a repair won’t fix:

  • Leaking fittings, which need a plumber
  • A steel bath rusted through
  • A whole bath that’s dull or worn, where a full re-enamel is the better fix

Different materials, different repairs

Composite and resin

Stone resin and composite baths are heavy and solid. Chips and scratches can be filled and colour matched, just like other baths.

Pressed steel

Steel baths are lighter than cast iron, but have a similar enamel surface. Exposed steel rusts fast, particularly by the plughole, so repair chips early.

Keeping it looking good

Much of the damage we repair could have been avoided. These habits help:

  • Get a dripping tap fixed promptly
  • Cover the bath during DIY or decorating
  • Don’t leave razors or cans standing in the bath
  • If an acrylic bath flexes, have its feet adjusted

Keep metal objects like razors and cans off the surface, as they can leave rust marks. And fix dripping taps promptly.

Avoid standing in a cracked acrylic bath until it’s fixed. Each time it flexes, the crack grows, and it can start to leak underneath.

What affects the price in HD9

Prices start from £95. A fixed quote means you know the cost before you book. We look at:

  • The size and number of damaged areas
  • Doing more than one item at once
  • Any earlier repairs that need removing first
  • The material

We don’t add extras on the day. The price we quote from your photos is the price you pay, unless the damage turns out to be different, in which case we talk to you first.

Quotes from your photos

Before you send photos, a few simple things make all the difference:

  • One picture of the entire bath
  • One sharp close-up of the damage
  • Whether it’s been repaired or coated before
  • Your postcode, so we can check dates

Pricing is simple: take a close-up of the damage and a picture from further back, send them over with your postcode, and you’ll get a fixed quote back. There’s no charge for the quote and no obligation.

Questions from HD9

I tried a repair kit. Can you fix it?

Yes, we do this often. We strip it out, deal with any rust and repair it again.

Can you redo someone else’s repair?

In most cases. We remove the old repair before doing a new one.

What happens next?

You get a fixed price and available dates. If anything’s unclear, we’ll ask for another photo.

Is there a call-out fee?

Travel is included in the price, and we charge the same wherever you are.

Can pets and children be at home?

Please keep children and pets out of the room during the visit and until it has cured. The rest of the house is unaffected.

Can rust on a bath be repaired?

Yes, it’s one of the most common repairs we do. We take it back to sound metal, seal it, fill it and match the colour.

Can I get a quote without a visit?

In nearly every case. We only ask to see it in person if the pictures can’t show what we need.
