Bath re-enamelling near New Basford

How we handle bath re-enamelling in New Basford

After cleaning, repairing and priming, we spray on the new finish. Most of the work, and most of the durability, is in the preparation, and we take our time over it. Typical jobs include a bath that stays dull however much you clean it and brown or grey marks that don’t clean off, in cast iron baths, pressed steel baths and basins & shower trays.

You’re covered after we leave: each job carries a one-year guarantee, and we will explain exactly what it covers when we quote.

What we can’t put right

Honesty matters more than a booking, so here’s what a repair cannot fix:

  • An acrylic bath that flexes badly underfoot
  • Damage hidden under a previous coating, until it’s stripped back
  • Plumbing leaks, which need a plumber

Not sure? Send pictures and we will give you a straight answer before you book.

Surfaces we repair

  • Pressed steel baths
  • Acrylic baths
  • Victorian roll-tops
  • Basins & shower trays
  • Cast iron baths

Can I fix it myself?

Kits are cheap and easy to find, but the repairs we redo most often are DIY ones that have discoloured or lifted. Getting it right first time is typically cheaper.

If you are set on a kit, follow its instructions closely and work on a clean, dry surface, and do not use it until it has fully cured. If it fails, we can still put it right.

Work for landlords and builders

Housing associations and facilities teams use us for planned and reactive repairs. A repair avoids taking out and refitting, which matters when someone is living in the home.

We regularly price jobs from inventory or check-out pictures. You can have a price before you arrange access, and we liaise with tenants about access if you’d like us to.

The process

You don’t need to empty the room. Everything we use comes in the van with us, put protection down and get going once we’ve agreed what we’re doing. It generally takes the best part of a day, and you are welcome to carry on with your day while we work.

  1. First we protect the bathroom and set up ventilation.
  2. Next we degrease the bath and fix chips and rust spots.
  3. We prepare the surface and apply a bonding primer.
  4. We spray on the new enamel finish in several coats.
  5. We leave it to cure, and it’s typically ready the next day.

How to prepare

  • Let us know which floor the room is on
  • Keep children and pets away from the room on the day
  • Let the surface dry out before the visit

How we price bath re-enamelling

Prices start from £350. We give every job a fixed quote from pictures. This is what makes a difference:

  • Doing more than one item at once
  • Any earlier repairs that need removing first
  • The type of damage
  • How many areas need work

Instead of hourly rates, we price the entire job up front. It depends on the damage, the material and access, and combining items on one visit brings it down.

Quotes from your photos

We price nearly every job from photos. This is what to send:

  • Whether it’s been repaired or coated before
  • A coin or ruler next to the damage for scale
  • A close-up of the damage, in focus
  • Good light, ideally daylight, without flash glare

There’s no need for us to visit first. Photos are enough for us to price nearly every job: send a close-up, a wider shot and your postcode, and we will reply with a fixed price.

Why repair rather than replace?

A refit takes several trades and several days. Resurfacing is one technician, normally in a day, and the bath can be used the day after. Our bath re-enamelling starts from £350. There are no surprise extras on the day. The price we quote from your photos is the price you pay, unless the damage turns out to be different, in which case we talk to you first.

Why choose Surface Doctor in New Basford

Aftercare tips

To keep it looking its best:

  • Fix dripping taps quickly
  • Wipe the bath dry after use in hard water areas
  • Don’t use the bath until it has fully cured
  • Get any chip repaired quickly

Treat the new finish gently at first: give it the full curing time, then clean it gently. From then on, avoid abrasives and suction mats.

Rust spots on a worn bath get worse with time, and each one adds to the preparation. It’s simpler to resurface before they spread.

New Basford: your questions answered

Do I have to be there?

Yes. The technician needs access to the room for the visit, at a time we agree with you.

Do you do work for letting agents?

Yes, often. We can quote for several properties together and work between tenancies.

Do you come to New Basford?

We do. Technicians travel to New Basford from across the region, and the price is the same as everywhere else.

Is it worth repairing rather than replacing?

In most cases, yes. A repair skips the removal, fitting and redecorating. We will be honest if it’s not worth it.

How do I book?

A close-up, a wider photo and your postcode. After that, we just agree a date.

How durable is a resurfaced bath?

A well-prepared finish lasts a long time if it’s looked after. Avoid abrasive cleaners and suction mats.

Can you re-enamel a roll-top bath?

Yes, roll-tops are a big part of our work. We resurface the inside, and the outside can be refinished too.

Can you change the colour of my bath?

Yes. Coloured baths can be resurfaced in white, and we can do the rest of the suite as well.

Repairs by material

Cast iron

Re-enamelling suits cast iron baths perfectly. The body lasts for generations; only the enamel wears, so a new finish makes them look new again.

Acrylic

We resurface acrylic baths as well, using a system that bonds to acrylic. The bath needs to be firm and well supported.
