Bath re-enamelling in New Deer

What happens on the day

We agree an arrival time beforehand, so you know when to expect us. Once we are there, the work takes a full day. The room is left tidy and ready to use once it has cured.

  1. We check the bath and agree the finish with you.
  2. Taps, tiles and the floor are masked off.
  3. The bath is degreased, repaired and keyed.
  4. We apply the primer and then the finish coats.
  5. The masking comes off, we tidy up and tell you when it can be used.

How to prepare

  • Have a window or extractor fan available
  • Keep pets and children out of the room while we work
  • Have somewhere for us to park nearby if possible

How to get a price

Pricing is simple: snap the damage close up and then the entire item, send them to us with your postcode, and we’ll reply with a fixed quote. Quotes are free and no obligation.

Bath re-enamelling at your home in New Deer

Cast iron, steel, acrylic, roll-top and period baths can all be resurfaced. Several coats of finish go on over a bonding primer, once the bath has been cleaned, repaired and prepared. We regularly repair Victorian roll-tops, cast iron baths and acrylic baths, and common reasons people contact us are wear marks under the taps and chips and rust in more than one place.

You are covered after we leave: our one-year guarantee applies to every job, and we explain what it covers before booking.

What bath re-enamelling costs

Prices start from £350. We do not charge extra for travel to New Deer. The price depends on:

  • Whether it’s a chip, crack, burn or wear
  • How many areas need work
  • The material
  • Where the damage is and how we get to it

The price depends on how much damage there is and what kind, the material and how many jobs we combine into one visit. We give a fixed quote from your pictures, so you know the cost before booking.

Quotes from your photos

It only takes a minute to photograph the damage. Please include:

  • One sharp close-up of the damage
  • A coin or ruler next to the damage for scale
  • What it’s made of, if you know
  • Details of any past repairs

A quote takes minutes to ask for: take one close-up and one wider shot of the bath, add your postcode and send them over. You will get a fixed quote, not an estimate.

Repair or replace in New Deer?

Replacement only makes sense in a few cases: if the bath is cracked through, if you want a different size or shape, or if you are refitting the whole room anyway. In most other cases, resurfacing is the better choice. Resurfacing from £350, with every job priced individually. Set against the cost of replacement, a repair is generally a fraction of the price, because nothing has to be taken out, refitted or made good. The quote lists exactly what you’re paying for.

DIY repairs versus a professional job

It’s natural to want to try a repair yourself. The risk is that a kit repair hides the damage for a while, then fails, and the old filler has to come out before a proper repair.

If you do try a kit, read the instructions carefully, make sure the area is clean and completely dry, and give it the full curing time. If it doesn’t work out, we can still repair it properly.

Keeping it looking good

Looking after the surface is easy:

  • Keep suction mats out of the bath
  • Clean with a soft cloth and mild detergent
  • Respect the curing time we give you
  • Rinse off hair dye, oils and bath bombs straight away

Use mild, non-abrasive cleaners, don’t use suction bath mats, and keep bottles and razors off the surface.

If a previous coating is starting to peel, do not pick at it. Moisture gets underneath and makes it worse, so have it stripped and resurfaced.

Questions from New Deer

Is there a call-out fee?

We do not add a call-out fee. Your fixed quote includes everything.

Will you leave a mess?

No. The work area is masked and covered, and we leave the room clean.

Is the work guaranteed?

Yes: twelve months. If there’s a problem with the work in that time, we come back and put it right.

Is it worth repairing rather than replacing?

Normally, when the rest is in good condition. A repair avoids removal and making good. If replacing would be better, we will say so.

Do you need to take the bath out?

No. It’s re-enamelled where it stands, so the tiles and taps stay put.

Can you repair several things at once?

Yes. Combining jobs on one visit brings the cost down. Include photos of each item.

Do I need to be at home?

We need someone to let us in. After that, you can carry on with your day.

Can you repair something that’s been repaired before?

Typically, yes. We remove the old repair before doing a new one.

Materials and what they mean for the repair

Cast iron

Cast iron baths are the classic candidate for re-enamelling. The body lasts for generations; only the enamel wears, so resurfacing gives them a new life.

Pressed steel

Steel baths and trays have a thin metal body under the enamel. Once a chip exposes it, rust follows quickly, so the metal is treated and sealed before the repair.

Signs you need bath re-enamelling in New Deer

Older baths often have several problems at once: worn patches, chips, rust spots and stains. Re-enamelling deals with all of them in one go.

Most people get in touch when they notice one of these:

  • A roll-top that is seen better days
  • Brown or grey marks that don’t clean off
  • A coating lifting around the plughole
  • Lots of chips and rust spots

What your quote should include

  • What protection goes down before work starts
  • Whether they match the colour on site
  • What aftercare is recommended
  • What preparation is included

What we can’t put right

Some problems need a builder, plumber or fitter rather than us:

  • Damage hidden under a previous coating, until it’s stripped back
  • Plumbing leaks, which need a plumber
  • A bath split right through the body
