Bath re-enamelling in New Zealand, done in place
The bath stays where it is, so the taps, tiles and plumbing aren’t touched. Most baths are done in one visit, and can be used again the next day. We regularly repair cast iron baths, basins & shower trays and Victorian roll-tops, and the jobs we see most are a period or roll-top bath worth keeping and thin, worn enamel in places.
Whatever the size of the job, it’s backed by a one-year guarantee in New Zealand and across Derby.

How it works
From the moment we arrive, the aim is to do the job without disturbing the rest of your home. Surfaces nearby are masked off, the job takes a full day, and we finish by cleaning up and talking you through the result.
- We sheet, mask and ventilate the room.
- We remove the old silicone and deep clean the bath.
- We repair chips, rust spots and pitting.
- The surface is keyed and primed for the new finish.
- Several coats of finish are sprayed on, then it cures.
How to prepare
- Clear the area around the damage
- Keep pets and children out of the room while we work
- Mention any parking restrictions or tricky access
How to get a price
The quickest way to a price is to send a couple of photos through our quote form or call us. We will tell you honestly if a repair is the right fix.

What we are called out for in New Zealand
Enamel doesn’t fail overnight. Abrasive cleaners, limescale and years of use dull the surface, generally first under the taps and around the waste.
Most people contact us after spotting one of these:
- A coloured bath you want in white
- A period or roll-top bath worth keeping
- Enamel that is lost its shine and feels rough
- Stains that will not shift
What to look for in a quote
- How soon you can use it again
- What the guarantee covers, and for how long
- How the colour is matched
- Who turns up on the day
DIY repairs versus a professional job
DIY kits are sold for most surfaces, and they can tidy up a tiny mark. Where they fall down is colour and preparation: kits come in a few standard shades, and without proper cleaning and keying the filler often lifts.
A DIY attempt isn’t a disaster. We take the old repair out and do it properly, so it doesn’t stop a professional repair. It does add a little time, so tell us about it when you send pictures.

What else we do in New Zealand
Honest limits
We won’t take on work that won’t last, so here’s what a repair cannot put right:
- Holes rusted through the metal
- Leaks from fittings rather than the bath
- Acrylic that moves when you stand in it
Not sure? Send photos and we will give you a straight answer.
What we work on
- Victorian roll-tops
- Pressed steel baths
- Cast iron baths
- Basins & shower trays
- Acrylic baths
Landlord and trade work in New Zealand
Rental properties take more wear, and replacing items every time a tenant leaves is expensive. A repair between tenancies is a cheaper way to keep the property in good order.
We regularly work with letting and managing agents. Send the address, photos and access details and we will arrange it.
Materials and what they mean for the repair
Cast iron
A cast iron bath is heavy enough that most people never want to move it. The enamel is the part that wears or chips, and that’s what we repair.
Acrylic
Acrylic baths can be resurfaced too, with a coating system suited to acrylic. It must be solid and not flex underfoot.
Looking after it afterwards
Nothing complicated is needed:
- Have chips seen to early
- Leave the bath for the full curing time before using it
- Wipe the bath dry after use in hard water areas
- Store bottles off the bath
Rinse the bath and wipe it over after use, especially in hard water areas, so limescale cannot build up.
Worn enamel only gets rougher with time, and rust spots spread under the surface. Acting earlier keeps the preparation simpler.

New Zealand questions
Can you price it without visiting?
Typically, yes. Clear pictures let us give you a fixed price without visiting.
What areas do you cover?
The entire UK, including all of Derby. Just include your postcode and we’ll offer you dates.
Will the price change on the day?
It’s rare, but if it happens we talk to you first. You decide whether to go ahead.
Is it OK to have pets in the house?
Please keep children and pets out of the room during the visit and until it has cured. The rest of the house is unaffected.
Do you do work for letting agents?
Yes. We work for landlords, agents, builders and businesses as well as homeowners across Derby.
How do I book?
Just pictures, your postcode and a contact number. On the day, we only need access to the room.
Is there a smell?
A little, during the work. We set up ventilation and the smell fades as it cures.
Will the bath be moved?
No. It’s re-enamelled where it stands, so the tiles and taps stay put.
Repairing versus replacing in New Zealand
Replacing a bath normally involves a plumber, a fitter and a tiler. Resurfacing is one technician, normally in a day, and the bath can be used the day after. Resurfacing from £350, with every job priced individually. Most people are surprised how affordable a repair is, especially compared with replacing and refitting. Send pictures and we will give you the exact figure.
