Newtown: your questions answered

Can you make a coloured bath white?

Yes, white is the usual choice. Tell us what you’d like when you ask for a quote.

Are you accredited?

Yes. Our accreditations include CHAS, Constructionline and SafeContractor. The full list is on our accreditations page.

Is repairing better than replacing?

Usually, when the rest is in good condition. A repair avoids removal and making good. If replacing would be better, we’ll say so.

Do you cover Newtown?

We do. Technicians travel to Newtown from across the region, and the price is the same as everywhere else.

Is it safe with children and pets around?

Please keep children and pets out of the room during the visit. The rest of the house is unaffected.

Can you repair several things at once?

Yes, and it’s frequently cheaper. Send pictures of everything together and we’ll quote them together.

What if the damage is worse than the pictures show?

Your quote covers the damage in the pictures. If there is more, we’ll tell you before starting.

Is my repair covered?

Yes, for a year. If anything goes wrong with the repair within the year, we return to fix it.

Bath re-enamelling in Newtown, done in place

After cleaning, repairing and priming, we spray on the new finish. Most of the work, and most of the durability, is in the preparation, and we take our time over it. We are often asked to fix chips and rust in more than one place and a coloured bath you want in white, on acrylic baths, pressed steel baths and basins & shower trays.

We guarantee the work for a year. If something isn’t right in that time, we come back and put it right.

Different materials, different repairs

Acrylic

Acrylic feels warm and is light, but it needs firm support underneath. Cracks are strengthened from behind before the front is finished.

Roll-top and period baths

We can resurface a roll-top inside and out, with the outside refinished as well.

Honest limits

Some jobs are not right for a repair, for example:

  • A metal bath with a through crack
  • A poorly supported acrylic bath, until it’s firmed up
  • A bath that is rusted through

Not sure? Send pictures and we’ll give you a straight answer before booking.

Surfaces we repair

  • Acrylic baths
  • Victorian roll-tops
  • Basins & shower trays
  • Cast iron baths
  • Pressed steel baths

For landlords and businesses

Builders use us to fix snagging damage before handover, saving last-minute replacements. We can visit several plots in one trip.

Rental properties take more wear, and replacing items every time a tenant leaves is expensive. A repair between tenancies is a cheaper way to keep the property in good order.

Should you replace it?

A replacement frequently means several trades over several days. Re-enamelling is one technician, normally one day, and the bath is usable the day after. Prices start from £350. Rather than charging by the hour, we fix the price before we start. It depends on the damage, the material and access, and doing several items at once reduces it.

Why book with us

DIY kit or professional repair?

The difference between a kit and a professional repair is mostly in the preparation and colour. We clean and key the area properly, mix the colour to your surface and finish it to the same sheen, and the work is guaranteed.

If you do try a kit, read the instructions carefully, and give it the full curing time. If it fails, we can still put it right.

What happens on the day

We agree an arrival time beforehand, so you’re not left guessing. On site, it takes a full day in most cases. We leave the room clean and ready to use once it has cured.

  1. We mask and protect the room and ventilate it.
  2. We clean and degrease the bath and repair any chips or rust.
  3. The surface is prepared and a bonding primer applied.
  4. Several coats of new finish are sprayed on.
  5. We leave it to cure, and it’s typically ready the next day.

Getting ready for the visit

  • Keep children and pets away from the room on the day
  • Mention if the room is upstairs or in a flat
  • Open a window if you can

What bath re-enamelling costs

Resurfacing from £350. We charge the same across the UK, including Newtown. The price reflects:

  • The type of damage
  • Where the damage is and how we get to it
  • Whether old repairs or coatings need taking off
  • How many areas need work

What it costs depends on how much damage there is and what kind, the material and how many items we do on one visit. We give a fixed quote from your pictures, so there are no surprises on the day.

How to get a fixed price

The better the pictures, the more accurate the price. Here’s what we find most useful:

  • A wider photo showing the entire bath
  • A coin beside the damage so we can judge size
  • Details of any past repairs
  • What it’s made of, if you know

To get a price, send two or three pictures through our quote form or call us. We’ll say straight away whether it can be repaired.

Aftercare tips

After the repair has cured, a few habits help it last:

  • Wash away dyes and oils after use
  • Never use suction bath mats
  • Have chips seen to early
  • Use washing-up liquid and a soft cloth

Use mild, non-abrasive cleaners, don’t use suction bath mats, and keep bottles and razors off the surface.

Avoid scrubbing a dull bath with abrasive cleaners. It just wears the enamel further and makes resurfacing more work.
