Bath re-enamelling in Oakley

Bath re-enamelling in Oakley, done in place

Cast iron and steel baths are ideal for re-enamelling, and we can resurface acrylic baths as well. You end up with a smooth, glossy surface. Common call-outs are for enamel that’s lost its shine and feels rough and an outdated colour you’d like to change, in acrylic baths, pressed steel baths and cast iron baths.

A one-year guarantee comes as standard, so you are not left on your own once we’ve gone.

Should you replace it?

For a sound bath, resurfacing costs far less than replacement, when you count removal, plumbing, tiling and decorating. It’s much quicker too. Our bath re-enamelling starts from £350. Instead of hourly rates, we price the entire job up front. It depends on the damage, the material and access, and combining items on one visit brings it down.

Why us?

  • CHAS, Constructionline and SafeContractor accredited
  • One visit for most repairs
  • Colour mixed on the day to match
  • Honest advice, even when it means no job

How the visit works

The work is clean and fairly quiet, so you can stay at home while we’re there. Protection goes down first, then the job itself takes a full day. At the end we talk you through how soon it can be used and how to look after it.

  1. We check the bath and agree the finish with you.
  2. Everything around the bath is masked and covered.
  3. The bath is degreased, repaired and keyed.
  4. Primer and finish coats are applied.
  5. We remove the masking, tidy up and give you the curing time.

Before we arrive

  • Point us to the nearest place to park
  • Let the surface dry out before the visit
  • Have a window or extractor fan available

How to get a price

Should I try a DIY kit first?

We understand the appeal of fixing it yourself. The risk is that a kit repair hides the damage for a while, then fails, and the old filler has to come out before a proper repair.

DIY kits are sold for most surfaces, and they can make a small mark look better. The trouble is colour and preparation: they come in a handful of shades, and if the surface isn’t prepared the repair won’t last.

Materials and what they mean for the repair

Pressed steel

Steel baths re-enamel well, as long as any rust is dealt with first. Steel frequently rusts by the plughole, so we check it carefully.

Acrylic

Acrylic feels warm and is light, but it relies on good support. Repairs to cracks are reinforced from the back.

Prices and what affects them

Prices start from £350. There is no charge for travel to Oakley. The price depends on:

  • Access to the area
  • The type of damage
  • How many areas need work
  • Any earlier repairs that need removing first

The price depends on the type and amount of damage, what it’s made of and how many jobs we combine into one visit. We give a fixed quote from your pictures, so you know the cost before booking.

Getting a price from pictures

We price nearly every job from pictures. This is what we need:

  • A coin beside the damage so we can judge size
  • Any details about the material
  • The postcode, so we can plan the visit
  • Details of any past repairs

Most clients in Oakley get their price from pictures. Tell us what happened and where you are, and we will send back a fixed quote and some dates.

Common problems we fix in Oakley

Sometimes it’s an earlier resurfacing that has failed, peeling around the waste or bubbling. Failing coatings are stripped back before we resurface.

The things customers normally mention when they call are:

  • Enamel that’s lost its shine and feels rough
  • Thin, worn enamel in places
  • Chips and rust in more than one place
  • Staining under the taps and around the waste

What to look for in a quote

  • Whether the colour is mixed to match
  • How long it needs to cure
  • How your room will be protected
  • Whether the price covers travel

10 questions to ask before you book

Oakley questions

How long is the bath unusable?

Generally a day, then it’s ready to use the following day. A badly pitted bath can need a second day.

Will you leave a mess?

Very little mess: we sheet and mask everything nearby, and we take our waste away with us.

What information do you need?

Just pictures, your postcode and a contact number. On the day, we only need access to the room.

Is there a smell?

Some odour is normal while we spray, which is why we ventilate the bathroom. It clears as the finish cures.

Do you resurface freestanding baths?

Yes. Inside and out if you’d like.

Can I add another job to the visit?

Yes. Doing several items on one visit typically costs less than separate visits. Include photos of each item.

Is there a call-out fee?

Travel is included in the price, and we charge the same wherever you are.

How long does re-enamelling last?

It depends on preparation, use and care. Properly prepared and looked after, it lasts well, and our work is guaranteed for a year.

Looking after it afterwards

So the finish stays in good condition for years:

  • Repair dripping taps early
  • Rinse off hair dye, oils and bath bombs right away
  • Never use suction bath mats
  • A quick wipe after use keeps limescale away

Avoid hair dye, bath bombs and oils sitting on the surface, as they can stain. Fix dripping taps quickly.

On a worn bath, rust spots keep spreading, and each one adds to the preparation. It’s simpler to resurface before they spread.

Honest limits

Some jobs aren’t right for a repair, for example:

  • Plumbing leaks, which need a plumber
  • Holes rusted through the metal
  • A cast iron or steel bath that’s cracked right through
